The category list can be reset from the "Categories" option on the mods toolbar.
I'm afraid this won't update the information for any mods you currently have installed though.
As stated in my first comment I've pressed the retrieve categories button several times and nothing happens, except losing all the categories I put in.
-
Just wondering why your "troubleshooting" let you to reinstall vortex? As you've seen - it doesn't help at all. in fact, it could make a relatively simple issue so much harder to figure out.
if a mod is missing a category, click the mod twice, a panel opens up on the right where you can add whatever metadata you think you need.
I would rather not do that for the for over the 300 mods in Vortext that resets all the categories to unassigned when I try a new collection, but thanks anyway.
-
Did you ever hear anything about this? I have a similar problem - the only Category I have is <Unassigned> so I made my own categories but it's more work to keep track of.
Nope

I tried to use the collection feature for Skyrim SSE and I must have messed something up because the collection would never finish installing (broken outside links)
so I canceled the installation and deleted the profile. After that the old profile which I had been using for over a year started to act strange- vortex told me that several of my mods
had no files but when I looked in the mods folders the files where there but vortex would not load them. So I performed a clean reinstall of vortex and now there are no categories
even after I select the list retrieve button. Even when I download a new mod there is still get no category. Anything else I can do?More info I'm currently using Vortex version1.5.7 I'm trying to mod Skyrim SE.
I'm running Windows 10 on this computer

I have uninstalled Vortex twice and done a clean install both in the custom and the hands off mode. In both cases Vortex will not show the categories list, the
column is there but it's empty. When I select retrieve categories nothing happens. My second clean install was done today 1.5.7 now when I download a
mod Vortex will install it but when I look at the info for the mod Vortex says it does not exist on Nexus. The current install seems to be installing the mods and the
game has not crashed yet but I don't understand what's going on. -
I only have one version installed. I"m running 1.14. I up graded to 1.2 by selecting the upgrade button in Vortex tried to start the game, that failed. So I closed Vortex and restarted it and that's when I get the warning when I click yes I'm mad Vortex restarts in 1.14.

I select "Yes, I'm mad, Vortex starts and the game starts fine but tells me an update is available.

I've been playing the same load order for 6 months, two days I started getting random CTDs. Is there a way to undo the update

I have the same problem with my wired headphone plugged into my xbox 1 controller. If my headphones ever get unplugged I need to restart game to get the sound back. I have never been able to find a solution. It's a pain but I just deal with it :wallbash:

I" start this off by saying I new at modding!
I have started playing around with the Creation Kit and I have a question! I cleaned up Concord, removed all the trash, junk cars and other things. Started a new game and when I got to Concord it looked just like I wanted it to. My question is why can't I do the same thing to the inside of the Museum? I can clean it the same way but when I start a new game and enter the museum a few of the changes are there but so is all the trash and junk. I have the same problem with Taffington Boathouse. What am I missing?
-
Are you referring to this Mod?
-
Just tried it, same error

I just purchased a new computer with the help from the members here. The difference is truly amazing. Loving every minute of it.

Is that something you would set through the console or an ini file? And where can I find things like that instead of bugging you guys? Please don't tell me 6 years of collage, I doubt I would make it to graduation.

Would suggest a 1440p monitor. Modded skyrim and fallout 4 can be VERY demanding, and I'll assume you will be modding them since you're here. I speak from experience, using a 1060 6gb here, expecting to be able to play any game at max settings 60fps. But oh boy I underestimated how demanding mods can be. With countless graphical improvement mods for both games, skyrim especially, I can barely hit 30fps in areas such as riverwood with the mods and ENB im using. If frame rate do not bother you, would suggest going for a 4k monitor, as it will be able to fully utilize ur gpu and future gpus if u do upgrade.
For beth games, to me, anything above 30FPS is definitely playable. But, I don't go in for the 'prettification' mods myself. I DO tend to play with UGridsToLoad though, and that can most certainly have a profound affect on framerate. :D
What is UGridsToLoad?

My new computer will be here next week so a new mod manager will be a great new beginning.

Do I need to add any thing to this https://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Gamer-Infinity-XLC

I'm after a desk top that I can plug into this:https://www.bestbuy.com/site/sony-65-class-64-5-diag--led-2160p-smart-4k-ultra-hd-tv-with-high-dynamic-range/5748206.p?skuId=5748206
That's a good one. Not as good as the X900E, but quite good.
To run 4K@60@4:4:4 (which you should), you'll also need a "Premium Certified" HDMI 2.0 cable, like Monoprice ones. Might need to try different ports to get a 2.0 link.
You'll want a powerful video card to drive it at 4K resolution. A 1080Ti will be best, suitable even for very demanding games at reasonably high settings. The 1080 will do most games at high settings, but dip a bit. HDR might be limited, but not a lot of PC games work well with it.
I checked Alienware's website and the configuration in your initial post is weird. 32GB RAM is unnecessary, but they only seem to spec 16GB modules. A 460 watt supply, are they serious? The 8700K is a power-hungry CPU and so is the 1080. Even a very good 460W will run too close to its limits for comfort. It will be noisy, it won't overclock well, it will limit the PC's life. Dell dropped the ball here.
The configuration you'd want would cost you $2,570. Since you've got (are getting?) an X850, not a Z9D or at least an X940E, I presume price matters.
A similar prebuilt PC can be bought for less: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/cyberpowerpc-gamer-xtreme-desktop-intel-core-i7-8700k-16gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1080-ti-2tb-hdd-240gb-ssd-black/6163800.p?skuId=6163800
That's $1,880 from Best Buy. It's not as compact, but for $700 I think you can live with that.
I'm not specifically advocating for CyberpowerPC, it was just the first thing I found. Most 1080Ti's have been bought out by miners, so they're not cheap. I could build a slightly better PC at $1,800, all included, but $1,880 is a good deal for a prebuilt.
I haven't gotten the computer yet. I should have stated that I have chosen the 850 watt power supply. I didn't see the power supply listed in the specs of the CyperpowerPC listed I will assume it's enough. The reason I'm here is for ideas. This will probably be the last gaming system I buy so I want one I don't need to upgrade in a year.

Was that a serious suggestion? Virtually all Intel processors made since 1995 have this potential issue. And right now it is only a potential issue, since neither of these exploits has been seen or reported in the wild. Also from what I've read both issues are simple memory read access exploits, they can at most see passwords and other sensitive data, not change or delete it. If this is incorrect I hope someone else chimes in.You should really wait before making any purchases right now. https://meltdownattack.com/
That's the way I understand it as well.
If you are only going to play games the 32gb is enormous overkill.
Also alienware is expensive for what you get.
I'm open to all suggestions. Like I said I haven't done this in 20 years.
If you are willing to build your own, you can put together a rather nice machine, for less money than one of the big-name manufacturers would charge, unless, of course, you want a laptop..... Not much in the way of customization available there.
I believe the last computer I built was a 286-16 Mhz with a whopping 1 meg of ram. At my age(well past 60) It's easier for me to buy one already made. Most of the current hardware are beyond my understanding. I'm after a desk top that I can plug into this:https://www.bestbuy.com/site/sony-65-class-64-5-diag--led-2160p-smart-4k-ultra-hd-tv-with-high-dynamic-range/5748206.p?skuId=5748206

No Category List
in Vortex Support
Posted
I could understand something blocking it if something had changed but I did try it with no antivirus of firewall running. I've been using Vortex since it came out and have never had this problem, even when I download a new mod vortex will not asign a category. I'm puzzled. The game runs fine and now the mods are deploying properly it would just be easier to sort by categorry.
