  1. Do they have weapons to start with? When I created mine I had left their inventories empty so I could choose what to give them, but they'd never use anything but fists, even though they picked up weapons. Gave them weapons in the CK and, in my experience, suddenly they use whatever they have in inventory. Or the phantom hunting bow. Grrr.
  2. What's with the ads recently? In the past week, I've had at least 4 different ads start making noise with no input from me. This is terribly rude. Is this the way it's going to be from now on? If I need to turn my speakers off before I visit the Nexus, I'll probably just use the Steam workshop instead.
  3. I tried another and it didn't work, so I will have to check what I did with the other one that is different. The only difference I see is the Marriage faction, must be missing something. Sorry, a friend came over and I won't be able to figure this out tonight. Faction rank: single click on the number. Relationships: Looks like you have to save and reload. AI packages: none at all!
  4. No, I am not kidding you. I dropped her into Sleeping Giant Inn, and there she was. She only had one topic, "follow me", but when following she has wait here, I need you to do something, let's trade, and let's part ways. When asked to wait she waits. I've been playing for a few hours and as I said, it's working. This was a from-scratch follower. Perhaps you duplicated someone who has some extra scripts that are preventing it from working.

Via xxwarcryxx, I have learned that all you need to do is this: Factions: CurrentFollowerFaction -1 PlayerFaction 0 PotentialFollowerFaction 0 Relationships: Player Ally This is way way simpler than in the old days. Working so far! Also, give them some weapons on the inventory tab, or they will only punch things.
  6. That didn't help. 95 archery and she still punches. Use the bow already! Edited to add: Ah, if you want them to use weapons, give them weapons to start with. I gave her a bow in the CK, and she uses it.
  7. I have created a custom follower and am having trouble getting her to use the weapons I give her. I am trying to make a sneaky sniper, but instead have made an aggressive brawler. I templated her stats from Faendal, and then set her class to CombatRanger. For AI Data, I have selected csHumanMissile as combat style. From looking at this combat style, this should make her much more likely to use bows than anything else. If I am reading the CK wiki correctly, in csHumanMissile she should view her ancient Nord bow as having effectively having 48 damage. Why would she use her fists instead? When I ready my weapon she will ready one too, but she never uses it, and will always run up to punch instead. A weird thing is she seems to recognize that she wants a weapon - in the first dungeon she picked up a few draugr weapons, and will occasionally ready, but not use, them. Can someone point me in the right direction?
  8. I have no idea what's wrong with your game, but it looks like you have 4 Mikas enabled when you only need one.
  9. Ony one person has sent me a mod to review, and he made mistakes. It's no big deal. I made them, Loxy made them, FO3Phalanx made them, and I imagine everybody with a follower mod made them. Seriously, a large part of programming, and in my experience modding, is identifying and dealing with mistakes. I don't see how that's blaming the end user. Well, that just makes me sad. Even if, as you say, it's incomplete, I get you 95% of the way there, and now it's my fault. I will probably take your advice, though. I was just trying to get the ball rolling, and get some knowledge out there that we could all build on, but no one's* helping. I'm juggling two jobs, my own mod, a new computer, this tutorial, and what I used to call my personal life. If I can cut something out with the side bonus that I get flamed less on the internets, that's a win-win situation. --- Apologies to Cipscis and Tarrant, who I forgot. --- Guide revised for clarity, expanded and tested Jan 31.
  10. ZombieUK, you might want to spend some time learning the GECK before you try a companion. I don't want to discourage you, but setting up a companion is a lot of work, and if you do even one little thing wrong, it won't work correctly. As an example, I was helping a fellow whose companion wouldn't talk. Turns out he'd added a check to the FollowersHired topic to see if the companion was fired. This is a logical-sounding thing to do, but the fired variable is only set when you fire the companion. If the companion has never been hired, the fired variable is still zero. So he couldn't hire his guy. To anyone having trouble debugging conversation, I cannot emphasize this enough: use the console, select your follower, and use the console coommand sv, short for ShowVars. This shows what your follower's variables are right now. Then you can compare this to the conditions in your topics.

  12. For cleaning up inadvertent changes to other NPCs, I've been using FO3Edit.
  13. No need to copy FollowersHire<someone> topics. I think what's going on is that your topics are not eligible for your NPC to say. Possible causes that I know of: NPC must be added to NPCFollowerslist or otherwise selected in quest conditions The topic's conditions must select NPC correctly GREETING must add topic FollowersHired Quest must be "Start game enabled" There must be top level topics available There will be a new version of the guide soon. In order to get Mika in compliance with my new system, I moved her topics to a new quest, and sure enough, she didn't have her flashlight dialog. Adding her to the quest conditions (GetIsID, NPC MikaSniper) fixed that. Please, I'm not going to be able to debug people's mods by remote control. But this once, could someone who has followed the guide pm me your mod, and I'll have a look at it. I may (probably?) have missed a step in my guide, and as I sort of allude to in it, this description is provisional. It turns out not to have been the best way, but that's why I posted it, so we could get a process described. But it did actually work.
  14. Ironcossack, I don't have a solution for you but I find your mod idea quite amusing. If you work it out, let us know. Just thinking out loud, maybe have a look at Fawkes, because I imagine Pinchy counts as a creature, not an NPC. I haven't really looked to see if there are any real differences, though.
