  1. Sorry for the resurrection, but thanks for the fix for Tranquility Lane. I wish I'd found this sooner, but now I'm out of there and will apply the fix anyway.
  2. I've looked through most of the threads, but I don't see anything about a mod that replaces the horrible map for Solstheim. Is there a mod for that? I have the Overhaul already installed, but it doesn't seem to have anything that fixes the maps. I've only started a few days ago, but I dread going back to Solstheim and trying to find out which way I'm headed-nevermind where I'm at for any given point. thanks for any help.
  3. Thank you very much, dubiousintent for the detailed suggestions. I do know that, while I've been told before, I have forgotten to disable auto-saves, and everything you mention makes perfect sense. As for the merged and bashed patches, I'm afraid I am far too ignorant to use those tools I tried following the instructions in a video for the FOedit program, but I became hopelessly lost, and only seem to have determined that my utter failures of installing mods into FO3 are due to my somehow making ALL of the main .esm files the "Losers". And of course, not knowing what I was looking at, I have no idea what to do with the utter cascade of information produced by that program. So instead, I am planning on paying a modder to fix my crapped up mod installs and eventually hand-hold me through the basics of Wrye Bash and FOedit programs. Thanks again for taking the time to help me here.
  4. Sorry for the late reply. No heat at all. This is a brand-new z170 system, and New Vegas, for instance doesn't even start to stress the components. That game and others like Oblivion, FO3, etc. run @ 42c. Skyrim, FO4, etc. run @ 60-65c. No heat issues. This is mostly a Windows 10 issue, in that when the game freezes, on rare occasions it locks everything, so not even the Task Manager can close the program, forcing a hard shutdown. I just want to know if there's a way to close the program without the hard shutdown. EDIT: I need to clarify that this only happens very rarely; most of the time the Task Manager closes the program as it should. It happened a few times in FO4, but that likely had more to do with the different patches and bugs, plus shaking out the system and adding mods. It hasn't forced a hard shutdown in months. I was just reminded of this issue when playing New Vegas last week, when trying to fast travel to a location caused the game to freeze, likely because it was trying to load the game world while a Legion squad was entering into the same in-game area. EDIT2: When I say that NV froze, I mean that the roulette wheel just kept spinning when fast-traveling to another location.
  5. While this occurred in F: NV, it has happened in other games as well. Rarely, as Bethesda games will, the game will freeze, during fast-travel or whatever trigger. This could be attributed to mods, the game engine, etc. Regardless, it is a rarity so not the topic here. Instead, it is how to get the game to close without having to use the power button on the PC. Most times, CTR/ALT/DEL works just fine. But, once in a great while, that doesn't work. Is there some way to get the game to close without the hard reset? Bringing up the Task Manager doesn't seem to work in these instances, but perhaps there is some trick I'm not aware of that can address this? Windows 10, btw. I didn't have this happen very often at all with Win7.
  6. I had this happen to me a few times. In my case, it was a bad Windows 10 installation from the factory. Re-installing Win10 solved that and other issues.
  7. "think clearly as you post and I might find a fix for you. "might"" Wow. Yeah, you weren't being TOTALLY rude and obnoxious. What part of the OP comment did you find so irritating that you had to insult them?
  8. When I try to use LOOT in the NMM, it doesn't list FO4, even though it's installed in the same place as the other games, which LOOT has no problem finding. Can anyone help me, please?
  9. I have had a problem with enabling mods since the very first beta patch, so that if I started a game, the mods would all be disabled, and I would have to go to the main game files folder and uncheck "Read-Only" for those files. Then everything loaded fine. But just now, I tried the game without un-checking that box, yet all the mods loaded with the game just fine. I'm not complaining, but I would like to know what is happening behind the scenes a bit better, so that I can fix my own problems in the future, instead of coming here and whining like I usually do. I have also quit the "beta" program for FO4, which might be part of the answer, though I do know that when I first quit it, I still had to uncheck the Read-Only box before playing.
  10. How is this a "Beginners" guide, when most of us have no idea how to work Wrye Bash or FO4edit? Heck, the page at FO4edit even says if you don't know how it works, you shouldn't install it. Ugh.
  11. I can't get look to find FO4. It found Skyrim, FO3/NV, but not FO4. LOOT, not "look"
  12. One thing to try is to go to "This PC>Documents>My Games" and right click on Fallout 4 and choose "properties". On the "General" page, uncheck the box for "Read-Only" and "YES" for all of the files/folders in that game folder.
  13. Thank you. I had the same problem. Opting out worked perfectly. I was going a bit bonkers, wondering how to re-enable mods.
  14. Is there any other way around this or a way to get back deleted save files? Unfortunately, I delete all but my most recent save to keep it all organized  Buy a bigger hard drive? I used to delete or save over other saves, until I found out that deleting mod content is a bad thing, and the saves aren't all that much data. Now I just hard save less often, but leave them all there until I'm done in that play-through.
  15. Seeing this here, makes me want to pay for another Premium sub. Is there a way to do that? I have used so many mods from here that I got my money's worth years ago.
  16. Just to help those looking for answers to issues when enabling mods, I found that my problem had to do with the files being classified as "Read-Only". That caused them to be erased each time the game loaded. Right click on the Custom.ini and Prefs.ini, select Properties, and under the General tab you'll see if the "Read-Only" box is checked. Uncheck it, and save.
  17. In my case, the mods are disabled as soon as I start a Save game. I checked the NMM right before starting the game, and all the mods were enabled as they had been for the save file. But ALL of the mods become disabled when the game loads the data. The necessary edits to the Custom.ini and Prefs.ini files are still in place. This has happened every time I try to play, since the last Bethesda patch was installed. I know that it is something I have or haven't done. I just don't know the right place to look.
  18. Could someone explain what I'm doing wrong? I wanted to go to the Fallout 4 forum. But not only do I not find it, but there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to how the games are listed. I mean, what happened to alphabetized listing? Far Cry 4 is half the page away from Far Cry 3. That makes no sense at all, so it must be that my browser or something I'm doing has messed things up tremendously. Unbelievable.
  19. you have sResourceDataDirsFinal= twice. Remove the last line and you should be fine. If my memory is correct, since I redid my .ini last night, the only line you should to add your self is bInvalidateOlderFiles=1 Yes. That's why I posted the [ARCHIVE] portion, so that it would be clear what was already there. I did as you suggested, and it seems to be working. I'm not positive, but I'm seeing thunder in the "True Storms" mod that, in the distance, are mostly just white blocky-type graphics. I know that if you get white rain, it means something's wrong with the mod-enabling or load order. Not sure if this is a glitch like that or just a part of the mod. Hmmm. Anyway, thanks again for your help in this, bill8872.
  20. Thanks, bill8872. I'll try it out tonight.
  21. Perhaps this will help. This is what's under [ARCHIVE] [Archive]sResourceIndexFileList=Fallout4 - Textures1.ba2, Fallout4 - Textures2.ba2, Fallout4 - Textures3.ba2, Fallout4 - Textures4.ba2, Fallout4 - Textures5.ba2, Fallout4 - Textures6.ba2, Fallout4 - Textures7.ba2, Fallout4 - Textures8.ba2, Fallout4 - Textures9.ba2sResourceStartUpArchiveList=Fallout4 - Startup.ba2, Fallout4 - Shaders.ba2, Fallout4 - Interface.ba2SResourceArchiveList=Fallout4 - Voices.ba2, Fallout4 - Meshes.ba2, Fallout4 - MeshesExtra.ba2, Fallout4 - Misc.ba2, Fallout4 - Sounds.ba2, Fallout4 - Materials.ba2SResourceArchiveList2=Fallout4 - Animations.ba2sResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS\SGeometryPackageList=Fallout4 - Geometry.csgSCellResourceIndexFileList=Fallout4.cdxSResourceArchiveMemoryCacheList= Fallout4 - Misc.ba2, Fallout4 - Shaders.ba2, Fallout4 - Interface.ba2, Fallout4 - Materials.ba2bInvalidateOlderFiles=1sResourceDataDirsFinal=
  22. Thanks. I'll try that now. EDIT: There is already a line there, "sResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS\" Is this okay? The first line of the two isn't there, however.
  23. I started the game for initializing, but no "Custom.ini" was produced. Do I just install those 3 lines into the .ini file instead? EDIT: Also, in the regular .ini file, there is already a section marked "[ARCHIVE]" Do I just add the last two lines, or just paste the 3 lines into the folder, thus having two [ARCHIVE] sections? I don't know why I having such a problem with this. I had them running fine before. Now I've forgotten how I did it. EDIT 2: Just to be clear, I'm looking at the files from the Documents/my games/Fallout 4 side, not the C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam...etc.
  24. Good morning. I installed LOOT, and the NMM found it, and it has found all the other games except for Fallout 4. They are all installed to the same place, so this is confusing to me. How can I get LOOT to manually go to the game files, or fix it so that it can find them on its own? EDIT: Of course, it could be that LOOT doesn't work for FO4, and I'm just ignorant. Thanks for any help.
  25. Good morning. I have very few mods installed, beside those called for, like the UOP set and OBSE v21. Anyway, I had some issues earlier that I finally located as the game still running in the background. I thought I had it fixed, but it happened again this morning. This time I got an error message from Steam informing me that Obliv. is still running. I don't see anything resembling the game files in the Task Manager. How do I get the game to quit completely when I exit? Until I find an answer to that, how can I find the game so that I can stop it running? Right now, the only thing I know to do is to restart the OS. heh. I doubt that's a good solution, though. Thanks for any help.
