  1. The ultimate goal here is to create a "rules of engagement" mod that would give a karma penalty for sneak-attacking civilians (even evil civilians, but evil military are OK). I can't find an "OnSneakAttack" or even an "OnCriticalHit" function that I could use. Do I need a workaround of some kind to cause this to be a crime?
  2. Dude, that's amazing. I hope you're not going through too much trouble for those other things, considering that there are huge repositories of royalty free 3d models available that just need to be imported and dirtied up a bit with textures.
  3. Fun fact: Bethsoft has paid homage to Maniac Mansion before:
  4. Update: 1. I added most of the rest of the upstairs rooms, as well as the kitchen, dining room, and storage closet--but no clutter yet. By far the most difficult room to do was the one with the door leading to the darkroom (i.e. where you first meet the Green Tentacle). 2. Tested in-game. Found a lot of cracks I need to fix, but otherwise it works great and I'm envisioning an incredibly fun place to play in, once I get clutter. The project will be on a couple weeks hiatus while I move; I've already boxed up my 1080p monitor, so no desktop for me. Here are my immediate priorities: 1. Modify Mansion wallpapers* 2. Redo some rooms, fix the cracks. 3. Add the rest of the rooms (reactor room, dungeon, lab, Meteor's cell, living room, library, attic w/ circuit breakers, Green Tentacle's room, and observatory--last because it needs a unique NIF). * - I discovered the NIFs used in the homes of Tranquility Lane, which are more fittingly cheeseball than several of the wallpapers in Point Lookout's mansions. Using these, and perhaps some screenshots or artwork based on Maniac Mansion Deluxe, I can create tons of alternative texture sets to allow a lot more freedom and variety for the floors and wallpaper. Once that is done, I can release this as a modder's resource. Final note. I'm thinking about how to implement the coup de grace of Maniac Mansion: microwaving Ed's hamster. Once I get a NIF of a microwave and a hamster, it'll be easy to do. I know there's already a mod out there that turns the victims of your flame-based weapons into charred meatpiles. Incorporate that, use a little blood splatter decal on the inside of the microwave, and I think it'll recreate Ed's rage just fine. Regarding how you control your two "teenage companions", I think it should be possible to issue them a series of scripted commands from a menu--not unlike the original game. By the way, speaking of companions, rather than directly port Maniac Mansion's teenagers over as NPCs, I figured it would be more creative and fun to use existing NPCs with similar personalities that you can recruit. Syd (smooth, sunglasses dude) - Mr. Burke Razor (punxor chick) - Clover ^- The only two that, fittingly can nuke the hamster. Bernard (NERD) - Dr. Lesko Jeff (useless surfer dude) - Ted Strayer Michael (photographer) - well, actually, the only Fallout NPC that ever uses a camera happens to be Jonas, but uh, he's kind of out of the running. I actually think Joseph of Little Lamplight is the next best candidate. There will be no actual combat in the mansion (I'll disable it while the quest is running) so there's no need for the "killable kids" mod. Dr. Fred, Ed, and Edna Edison will of course have their own NPCs. I am strongly tempted to make Ed a retex of the Swampfolk Brawler. >:-)
  5. Absolutely. I think most people who played MM played it on their Nintendo, so that's the version they'll be familiar with. EDIT: Progress made since first post: --> Fixed the area around the Mechanist door. How dumb of me--I was struggling to make everything else smaller to fit it, when I could have just made it bigger to fit everything else. -->Because of the door's non-standard size, the art room and music room had to be adjusted to a non-grid length. I hid the cracks with dividers and wooden beams. -->Silly me, I had used Static doors instead of animated doors. They all work now, but I need to add sound. TO DO: --> Add the rest of the rooms. --> Clutter to imitate the game. Note: here are some of the objects that I anticipate needing to import new nif's for: microwave, rotting turkey, week old roast, flashlight, heart-shaped pillow, giant stereo speakers, observatory, hamster with cage, a venus fly trap than can grow, an Egyptian sarcophagus, a mummified corpse, a piano, a Victrola, paint brush, easel, and a weight-lifting machine. --> Script and reference objects so that they behave like the game. --> Other clutter. --> Exterior. Problems to solve: (1) I'll need to learn how to pull apart the mansion exteriors into individual NIFs I can used to customize the exterior. (2) Is there any way possible to directly control an NPC? Is in, actually play as one? (3) Is there a way I can have in-game cut-scenes where the camera abruptly shifts to another location sans the player to be a fly-on-the-wall while other characters talk? (4) Would I get into trouble for using Oblivion as a source for NIFs?
  6. Wow, that is awesome! You even got the evil eyebrow. That's the "Day of the Tentacle" version, whose artist had a very, very different style than the original. The old tentacles had no arms: http://www.abandonia.com/files/games/300/Maniac%20Mansion%20Deluxe_8.png And they were nothing but palette swaps. OK, I don't know who did this picture, but it is AWESOME and conveys exactly the vision I had for this project: http://www.mixnmojo.com/features/content/maniacmansion/maniac_fin.png
  7. I fully intend to do the entire adventure. I'm thinking of disabling weapons, lockpicking, etc., when the player is in proximity of the mansion so that he/she is forced to play the way the game was meant to be played. I would say about 80% of the mansion can be at least approximated using vanilla and Point Lookout models. I have no freaking clue how to get my Green and Red tentacles though. :P
  8. As soon as I saw Blackhall's Mansion in Point Lookout, I knew this had to be done. My goal is to recreate Maniac Mansion, as faithfully as possible, in Fallout 3. I've been working a few days in Geck--this is my first serious mod. Here's what I've come up with so far. Inside the front door. The kitchen is in front of you. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v484/godefridus/ScreenShot0.jpg Man, I was so happy to find those little "gargoyles" in vanilla Fallout. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v484/godefridus/ScreenShot1.jpg My favorite. Let me tell you, it was a b*tch to get the Mechanist's security door into the mansion. I did a lot of, er, non-standard things in Geck. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v484/godefridus/ScreenShot3.jpg The doors leading to the nuclear reactor and the living room, respectively. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v484/godefridus/ScreenShot2.jpg The soon-to-be music room. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v484/godefridus/ScreenShot4.jpg The soon-to-be art room. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v484/godefridus/ScreenShot5.jpg
