  1. The bottom one looks really nice. I agree with your buddy that Orcs probably wouldn't give a crap about being covered in armor, but more about smashing the enemy while looking intimidating and bad-ass. Definitely would download :)
  2. Modular armor! I didn't even know that existed, but I've looked at some examples and this is definitely something I want to do! I'm trying to find a guide on how to do this, but I'm not having any luck. Edit: Found This tutorial by FavoredSoul. I hope it's still up to date. And This list of Bodyparts from the Nexus Wiki should come in handy. I'm going to turn the first post into somekind of resource with links in case anyone else needs a quick list like this, but later when I have more time.
  3. I understand that some clipping is unavoidable. But what really gets me are those armors that look pretty when your character is standing up, but as soon as you crouch your butt sticks out through the back of the armor, or something like that. Ahahah yes I hate that! I hope to avoid stuff like that by deleting body parts that are hidden by the armor, and some good testing and skinning. Although a nipple slip could be plus during combat. :D I agree, I only like replacements if they're similar to the default armor, but just vastly better quality textures and meshes. I've already found stunning replacements so I won't make a mod like that, I wouldn't use it. And I definitely agree on the lady armor... it shouldn't be that different from the male counterpart and it should look like it can actually protect her! I don't dislike skimpy armor, but if the male armor is looking awesome with loads of protection and badassery, and the female version is a chainmail thong bikini... pretty disappointing. I'm going for a mix of medieval and fantasy-like armor right now. I've used some reference pictures of leather armor, plate armor, lighter and heavier armor. I hope it doesn't look too illogical in the end. I can always make different versions. I want to have an open policy where people can take the armor and change it around if they don't like something. Or use parts in their work. If people are interested in improving or editing some stuff, they can. As for leveled lists, should I just get people to do a bash patch? Or do I need to do something extra? The armor will pretty much show up in different versions/textures at different skill levels and perks. Would a bash patch put this throughout the world at the correct player level as well? What is that based on, armor stats? Noob question I'm sure. Those are freaking amazing! I'd better practice!
  4. Clipping through objects, clipping through armor parts, etc? I can avoid some of the major clipping but there may be some, still. Not any more than the vanilla game hopefully. Any tips?
  5. Thank you! So if I understand correctly: - Not looking like a leathery old butt - Should fit in the game, not too shiny/plastic, dark or light. Not too dependent on game assets. - Several texture options, good quality overall. Have 1024x1024 and 2048x2048 available. Do many people use even higher resolutions? - Appropriate for characters of all levels/progression, possibly have a set or retexture for each category that adds something. Possibly class related. - Add something besides just the armor, like it's own story/lore, but no Ultima Weapon-type monsters that randomly burn you to a crisp. Something to do, not just one boring random armor. - No cluttering, so hidden in the crafting menu and only visible when you have the materials available? Or maybe they only ever appear if you have a certain book in your inventory? - Temperable! Forgot to add that. This sounds good, and having more options and a small story behind it (even if it's just a journal or book with a story and directions) sounds like more fun to do. And doing several recolors/retextures for progression is way better in my opinion. It will take longer to do, though. But that won't stop me. Thank you for your input
  6. This is really helpful! Yes I do notice I spent more time than average, because I keep changing things around and don't work on one project for many hours at a time. I didn't set any time line, though.
  7. Hello, After seeing all the incredible armor mods around, I'm feeling very motivated to try and design my own armor mod. However, I can't really find a good list of what a good and complete armor mod should have for it to be considered suitable for upload. I did get as much info as I can myself, ofcourse. But I could use a little help if you have the time! This is what would make me download myself and what I think I would need to do: - Correctly skinned - Morphs are working correctly - Well named so it doesn't override other people's work - Correctly packaged (file hierarchy and .esp files all correctly done) - Thoroughly tested - Preferably male and female versions - Preferably meshes for beast races included - Correctly categorized, no insane ingredients, not overpowered - Enchantable, craftable, temperable - Fits the game's aesthetics - Preferably (somewhat) lore-friendly - Cleaned with TES5Edit I'd like to get it as nicely done as I can for my first upload. I'd hate to upload something that has a really obvious flaw because I missed something. Can you guys tell me what an armor mod should include for you to consider downloading and using it? What makes you mash the download button within a few seconds? What would make you refuse to get an otherwise decent armor mod? Things that annoy you? Thanks in advance for helping me out!
  8. Hi. Anything that would be done inside of a nif file is very hard to access and control from within TES5Edit. We'd need some kind of library which doesn't currently exist in TES5Edit, though it has been talked about before. Hair Mod Creator? Well, I don't know exactly how Hair Mods work, but I don't see any reason why not. You'd do something similar to what the Armor Mod Builder does, only for hair mods. A Hair Mod Creator would be perfect :) I also found a tool that extracts the texture paths in an .ini file to a .txt file and let's you edit/fix them, and can then reimport them. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/40638/? Might come in handy for you too? It won't mean anything for your scripts though. :)
  9. These scripts are just amazing. It will save me so much time! A huge thanks! The creation kit has given me plenty of trouble by crashing a lot, and being able to skip using it for big parts of the process has been very motivating. It's not clear to me, but is there a way for the Armor Mod Creator to automatically change and fix all the links to newly renamed .dds textures? If I understand correctly, all it does is link the .nif files to your .esp and it doesn't change the .nif files themselves. After using the Armor Mod Creator I checked the .nif files and I'll have to link them by hand (I know, I know. Sherlock and the lack of excrement. But it's not a complaint, I was just trying to understand the process a bit. Very new at this.) But there are many. Is it possible to automate this process as well? I don't think so (if it's not in an .esp or .esm you most likely can't), but this would be awesome. I'm very new at this so I'm probably missing a lot here, very sorry to bother you if such a tool already exists. Whether it's possible or not, you've already made my day. Edit: Since I'm here anyway, would a Hair Mod Creator be interesting to script as well? Possible in any way? And some way to simply add new content to the existing mod quickly? Or is that process already fast enough with other tools? I have not made one yet so I don't know if it will add anything.
