  1. Glad you were able to get it to work better :) For me I simply turn off ENB when downtown, saves about 10-20 FPS.
  2. Minor spoiler Far Harbour They really needed moments that pushed the NPCs to their limits, made you go "wow". They do approach that with Danse when but he never gets dramatic. I expected him to break down crying, yelling, outraged but all he does is sternly express his disappointment. Furthermore, nothing about his appearance changes. In short, it lacks depth.
  3. Let me guess, it gets worse the closer to downtown Boston you get? Yes, the vanilla game is not optimized correctly and is a mess. Fallout 4 literally has lag spikes for almost everyone. I'm sorry to say that you can slightly improve your performance with less mods/less processor intensive additions to your game but it is the game itself which is not optimized correctly. Many of us have fallen down the rabbit hole trying to get FO4 to run smoothly and suffice to say, it won't. The only realistic solutions I have heard so far are either running less mods or having an extremely powerful processor.
  4. Unfortunately you have discovered the disappointment at the end of the rainbow that a lot of us did with FO4. It's a great game, i'll play it again and again but the ending in it's multiple variants is almost an afterthought. There has been a lot of theories about the PC actually being a synth or some kind of clever plot twist behind it all. Unfortunately Bethesda didn't have anything so interesting in mind when they finished the story. This is also how all the companions feel throughout their relationships. Once you finish their quests and max their affinity, for the most part you are "done" and they become static, repeating dolls. I guess as with all Bethesda games, it's not about the destination but the journey.
  5. How much of your storage needs to be accessed on a regular basis? If the answer is not much, consider offloading what you don't immediately use or need to good quality memory sticks or other USB-based storage. Look for memory with lifetime warranties, not the 2, 3 or 5-year products. From what I've read the machines used to manufacture this memory fall into only two categories, really good and really bad. My point is that SSD's practicality increases as one's active storage requirements decrease, and imo you'll stop even considering mechanical drives as soon as you start using SSDs. Performance-wise there's really no comparison, also storage on any device with moving parts is inherently (exponentially in this case) less secure, especially long-term than storage on devices with no moving parts. That's tricky. I'm a semi-professional photographer and musician. My memory needs tend to fluctuate month to month but are higher than most consumers. A SSD is mostly for quality of living on gaming while a modern HDD would be great for my pro work on AV. My concern about SSDs are with rewrite degradation. Is this still a concern or have modern SSDs overcome this limitation? For example, could I run my entire Win7 install, modded gaming and apps off a single 250gb SDD? I do think a 250-500gb SSD and 3-5tb HDD with a 2-3gb cloud/usb backup ( I would need to access 3-5 times a year) could fit my needs. I think Win7, modded Skyrim + Fallout 4 and other apps would fall around 200gbs. Anyhow, this is my MOBO HHV7N http://www.ascendtech.us/mmImages/b_0/HHV7N-02.jpg I got it from a small server so it's kind of pieced together.
  6. Thanks, I got this MOBO second hand (free) so I'm not that familiar with it. It's a Dell (cringe) and the arrangement and features have been hard to figure out, even when looking at it and taking it apart. Typically I would just consult the MOBO manual but alas... On replacing my drives, isn't having separate drives safer in case one fails? Not putting all of one's eggs in one basket? Currently I use a drive for music production, another for photography etc. It does look like 3TB HDDs are cheap right now.
  7. Unfortunately my mobo doesn't have a PCI-Express 3.0 port
  8. Something like this? What kind of adapter would I need? Seems like a good deal for under $200. It's only for games since I use my HDDs for audio editing etc. I need a LOT of HDD space, but maybe I can transfer from the Raptor and shelve it since it's not really big enough for much storage... http://i.imgur.com/MB8cXpc.png
  9. My MOBO is out of SATA ports (I have a lot of HDDs) but I would like to add an SDD for a fresh Skyrim install. Can I buy a PCI or PCI-E to SATA card to connect more (such as this)? Will this diminish the transfer rate from the SDD? Maybe I would be better of putting one of the HDDs on the PCI-E card and the SDD directly connected to the MOBO? IIRC sometimes BIOS will have a fit if you swap around HDDs like that on boot... Thanks.
  10. Woohoo :D If only there were proper animation tools available the number would probably be much higher...
  11. Not sure if many of you remember this leaked document from Bethesda. http://images.eldiario.es/juegoreviews/noticias/fallout-4-dmjpg_EDIIMA20140521_0599_13.jpg Basically we know that it's legit. "Boston Project" was Fallout 4, which was announced, released, then Nuka World and of course TES VI has been "delayed" by Skyrim SE. The question here is, what is "Project Greenheart"? My guess is, TES VI Valenwood. Why? Valenwood, being home of the wood elves is one of the more marketable settings for a TES game which has yet to be covered. IMO Black Marsh and Elsweyr are too strange and foreign for a mainstream fantasy game. Skyrim, Hammerfall, Morrowind and Cyrodil have all been covered with Morrowind being the only "strange" setting out of the bunch. Thoughts?
  12. Considering parts made of cartilage and flesh fall off ghouls, nose, ears, lips... it's safe to say bye bye to anything downstairs :/ I'll take a natural death over living hundreds of years watching my body literally rot away as my mind decays toward insanity.
  13. Chrono Trigger. I couldn't stop playing it. The new game + feature kept me coming back as a kid. I must have beat it 20+ times. That and King's Quest VI. It was so darn hard, I just couldn't figure it out but I wanted to so bad!
  14. Personally the voice acting is terrible. It sounds flat and lifeless, uninspired from a script.
  15. I think something like a threshold of 25%, anything below that much be repaired at a bench because it's actually broken. Otherwise grafting materials in the field should do. Well this goes back into the whole, "if you want to RP it you can, Bethesda doesn't need a mechanic" which was used against wanting survival mechanics like hunger and fatigue. After all, if you want your character to eat and sleep, you can choose to do so. It's more fun though when the game uses a mechanic for this because you must perform within more challenging constraints.
  16. IIRC FONV did have weapon condition and repair. It wasn't tedious but it was poorly implimented because it could only be repaired by a similar weapon. FO4 could do much better by requiring components like oil, steel, springs etc. A % chance of backfiring or gun jamming based on luck/perk level would be great. If it happens, an animation plays of your character clearing the jam until you can fire again as normal. Honestly I think people would love the suspense and challenge.
  17. That's a good point, I still want to try it out! My counter point is that at high levels, semi-automatic and automatic weapons seem to far overpower revolvers and breach loaded weapons. This could possibly be a balancing mechanism. Also, this could help nerf automatic weapons rather than the heavy damage penalty they already have.
  18. One thing really bothers me about shooter type video games, every game featuring firearms seems to ignore the reality of magazines (colloquially called a "clip"). Most semi-automatic and automatic weapons use a magazine which facilitates reloading, holds the cartridges (colloquially called a bullets) and feeds them up into the receiver (mechanical portion of a firearm). The shell casing is then ejected from the port after the bullet is fired through the barrel. http://cdn.thewire.com/img/upload/2013/01/08/bushmaster.gif Magazines must be loaded with cartridges before being inserted into a firearm and fired. They have a set number of cartridges, for example this image shows a transparent, plastic, 30 round magazine. Technically, you never reload a magazine fed weapon. You must reload your current magazine or insert one that has already been loaded. This is a huge part of firearms overlooked by the video game industry. http://i.imgur.com/d7TdMDD.gif For example, if you only have 2 magazines which each hold 30 rounds, you can only ever fire 60 rounds before you must stop and reload your magazines, which is a time consuming process unless you have special tools. If you run out of magazines, you can no longer fire your weapon! For this reason, it is important to carry a side arm pistol. This aspect of combat with firearms is extremely important and overlooked in film and games. For this reason, revolvers, lever action and chamber loaded guns do have some advantages to prolonged firefights over magazine fed weapons. In Fallout 4, you can mod your gun to hold more bullets and you seem to have an infinite amount of pre-loaded magazines. In reality, you only have as many magazines as you can carry and can find them in various capacities. Why are magazines completely ignored in video games and most films? An exciting element of a survival game would be to only have a limited number of loaded magazines, knowing once you run out, you are in trouble. Finding magazines in the world would be an important process. Does anyone else ever consider this?
  19. You're thinking about this too much and making it too complicated. An Endorsement is similar to a "like" on social media. It doesn't mean anything other than "This is cool" or "I like this". If a mod does what it says it does, it deserves an endorsement. Endorsements do not cost you anything, and you can endorse anything you download, so there is no reason to NOT endorse it, even if you didn't end up keeping the mod. The only time you should not endorse a mod is if you feel there is something wrong with is, such as it presents a glitch or problem in the game. So ultimately, it is up to you, but it gives a little something back to mod authors. I encourage you to endorse often. You can only vote for one mod a month. These mods can then become Mods of the Month if they get enough votes. Again, this doesn't cost you anything but you may only vote once each month. Simply vote for your favorite mod you have endorsed that month.
  20. Maybe you can scrap it with scrap everything and rebuild a new one.
  21. If they get a condenser mic they are going to need phantom power and an entirely new sound card. Sure, it will be better but is it necessary? No I don't think so. I've recorded albums with dynamic mics in studio after a/b-ing them against condensers and the dynamic wasn't bad. So you're right that they can do better but for cheap solutions I think a dynamic would be much better than their usb headset. Their soundcard already has a built in preamp. Whether or not it's any good is hard to say. Again, a good preamp will help but that's an additional cost (they can run anywhere from $50-1000). I wouldn't immediately say a recording will be "bad" without a good preamp but their mileage may vary. Personally I use a Golden Age Pre73 Neve 1073 clone in my studio and it's a luxury, not a necessity.
  22. Thanks for the info. I got the link by Google searching "fallout 4 piercings mod". It was the first result for me.
  23. http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/35056/?tab=3&selected_game=110&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Ffallout4%2Fajax%2Fmodimages%2F%3Fid%3D35056%26user%3D1%26gid%3D110 Here I was all psyched about this mod being ported over to FO4 from Skyrim.
  24. Nice! I see that the Essence ST has "line in", which should work for any typical dynamic microphone. You could try getting something like a Behringer XM8500 which retails in the States for $20. Along with a desktop stand and a pop filter, then plug into your Essence ST with an XLR to 1/4th cable:
  25. Your Hyper-x headset doesn't have a stereo mic, I'm not sure why the specs are listed that way. For that it would need two microphones built into it. It shouldn't cause any problems either way. IMO it's not the best for recording dialogue however. Because of the fairly low sample rate and placement to the audio source, you're not going to get good quality. There's also no way to add a pop filter or isolate room noise given it's mounted on your face. Additionally you cannot move your face further and closer to the mic depending on the level at which you're speaking/yelling etc. You would be better off with a simple USB Audio interface with 24 bit 96kHz and a Shure SM57 microphone. Of course that whole setup will cost you at least $150 so if you're not able to invest that much the headset will work. IMO you're better off setting it on your desk than wearing it on your head.
