  1. It seems to me that there's a few very common arguments when it comes to Steamworks threads. Whenever somebody has a beef with Steamworks (DRM), somebody comes out and lists all the positives that come with Steam, whether the game requires it or not. - Steam is fine. I don't take any issue with Steam itself. It's a digital distribution. I do take issue with Steamworks, as that can stop me in my tracks from being able to play games. - You don't really lose anything if the game doesn't shove Steam down your throat. You can still get the game off Steam, and as far as I know there could still be achievements. Whenever somebody says they don't have a reliable enough internet connection, somebody comes up with the offline mode argument, and the disabling auto-patch argument. My theory is that this usually comes from people that don't actually use offline mode or disable auto patching. - Disabling auto patching is a joke. It's pretty unreliable, and you're still forced to download any day 1 patches. Dial up? Good luck. Bandwidth cap? Good luck. Sure not every game requires a huge patch download, but it's enough games where it's an issue. - Offline mode? It works. Somewhat. I don't really like it. I still feel like I'm tied to an online client, and with my internet that's just not a good feeling. I wish Bethesda would just go the SouthPeak method. Have a one time online activation or a phone in activation. Very accessible. The only reason I see that Bethesda chooses Steam is to prevent resale, which to me has always seemed pretty crooked.
  2. I believe IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover required you to download it no matter what. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. A lot of games install from the CD, but it's mandatory that you need to patch the game right afterward, and sometimes those patches get to be ridiculous sizes. Empire: Total War came with a 1.5 gig download when I got it. The game sat on my shelf for a long time until I used the LTE hotspot in my phone to download it. Any idea on what the size of the NV patch was?
  3. Going to have to disagree with you there. If you break the rules repeatedly on either site you'll be banned but here you at least have a chance to be reinstated if you plead your case successfully. Once your banned there though it's permanent. The mods here are also a lot friendlier. Also here I noticed there's a higher tolerance for polite dissent. If you want to say 'X sucks/will suck because...' the threads here don't get closed just for that. At least that's how it was when I stopped going there. Nexus > Bethesda > Gamefaqs If I had a dollar for every "Oh this thread has a slight possibility to include some minor rule breaking posts so I better lock it" post from a moderator on the Beth forums, I'd have a lot of dollars. They're quite overzealous in my opinion. I don't go to Gamefaqs, are they total Thread Nazis over there? And, that is exactly the thing I mean about the Beth forums. "Slight hint of dislike for Oblivion, could cause a mildly lively debate--locked!" Yeah. They can be pretty bad. Here's the UD definition: (Some language; It's Urban Dictionary) http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Gamefaqs%20Moderator

  5. you want more company's to do what EA did by making origin?!? srsly? origin is a steaming(get it) piece of poo compared to steam. plus every company making a steam or origin has to be the most god awful idea. if hate the idea of taking 5 secs to sign in to play every game you own on steam, you'll hate the idea of having to sign in to every different company's authenticater to play a game. Hey not all games are using steam to authentic or even run off of and I've had my own displeasures dealing with steam. I was just giving a little suggestion but clearly that offends you. Not everyone loves steam and I know plenty of people who try to avoid it all together with their games. Plus say that you have all your games on steam and they would require steam to be running in order to play. Now say that your internet is crashed and try running steam to play your games. Doesn't happen. Granted there is offline mode but steam only allows me to use offline mode if I have my account on auto-login, otherwise it just tells me it can't connect and goes nowhere. I honestly don't see the point in the authentication process for the games to begin with. Clearly they're supposed to stop pirating but that's yet to work . Just go back to simply entering the serial key provided upon installation. It's just about as effective as what they have now. If they really want to have an authentication process then fine but clearly steam hasn't been the ideal choice of a lot of players, including myself, who'd rather not go through it with steam. It's just my opinion. Simple as that. Not forcing you to go along with it in the first place. i removed my ethernet cable, still was able to play all my steam games.... Try authenticating them :P
  6. 49% is a minority. The PC crowd in itself is a minority. Why not just have it be console exclusive? The fact is they would be losing sales, and disappointing the consumer. Just because one person has a reliable internet connection, doesn't mean the person without it shouldn't be able to get the game. Anyways my main beef is with Steam. The reason they wouldn't have it be console exclusive is because of modders like us. (Us=Nexus Community) They want people to mod the game because not only does it allow them to see the talent in the online community, but new ideas to implement into either new games or really anything they might do. Plus, the PC community is only so small because so few people are able to afford computers capable of running games at the point where they look amazing. I look for that in a lot of games, and I have a good internet connection. Way I saw it, PC was the best choice. In short, the company would not lose money from the PC community. They actually have a chance to make a lot more money from the PC community. For Example, the weapon mod system implemented into Fallout: New Vegas was only added because someone developed a mod that allowed you to mod your weapons in Fallout 3. Without the "minority" that the PC gaming community, you yourself could be missing some game content from your games. Think about it . Also, I am not a PC fanboy, if there is such a thing. I do play my Xbox 360 often too. Oh hey look, I just rambled for a good two paragraphs. tehe It was to prove a point man. By his logic, the"minority" doesn't matter. And I'm a PC gamer. Hence my discontent with Steam.

  8. As far as an 'internet connection' goes: where I live it is extra expensive (nearly the same as the cost of electricity - with a 5-20GB cap on traffic per month), and broadband here runs much slower than in other countries. Perhaps you should look better. But then again, why blame Steam for a handful of games that have problems? There are a LOT of games avaliable on Steam. It's not a valid argument.<br><br><br>I'm not saying I want to have Steam as Skyrim's DRM, but if it happens, I won't be mad about it either. Nice try. ;) Of course that would be the obvious solution, but that's not how it works. If your game is already up to date then sure, it stops it from auto updating, but you still are forced to download the patch after the initial activation, with no way around it.
  9. This is false. Steam forces you to update the game as soon as it is activated. It's mandatory. There's no real reasoning behind it. Sure, if you can afford to download the 1+ gig patches it's no big deal, but a lot of people CAN NOT get a better internet connection. Me included. Offline mode is fine for the most part, but it can be pretty iffy. Just Cause 2 saves mess up if you're not connected, and even the launcher itself is prone to a lot of freezes. Not fun.
  10. So I've run into a problem with this. The game starts fine, I go to start a new game, the intro movies play, and I can get to the point where the screen turns white with splotches on it as you're being born, but that's it. It just hangs on that white screen until I end Fallout 3 with Task Manager. I can hear the beeping of the machines in the background and everything, but it stays on that white screen. Anybody have an idea of what's wrong? System Manufacturer/Model Number: ASUSTeK Computer INC. 11. So I've wanted to try out one of these neat looking camera mods. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=29942 I installed it using OBMM and it worked okay in game. I didn't really like it though, and chose to uninstall it. However now I don't have a crosshair in first person, which I'd really like to have back. Any help would be appreciated.
  12. Go buy a frost spell or something. All flame based spells look alike, but frost and lightning ect. look different. Still there isn't too much variety. You might want to try http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9562
  13. Oh. Thank you very much. That worked great.
  14. Is it possible for somebody to make a mod that disables the player characters voice during power attacks or after he gets hit? I did some google and TESnexus searching and couldn't find any thing like this. I'd really like to have it because I want to play a silent character, and I find the cute elf voice to be just awful.
  15. Shoot I'm out of luck then. I have no friends. Oh well. Thanks for trying to help.
