Advance is almost exactly the same as charge for everyone except for ranged units, who will close to firing range and attempt to maintain that distance. The archer behavior is fine, though it should be a separate order called skirmish. Yes, I am looking for slow march in field battles similar to the behavior of attacking armies in a siege. They maintain a shield wall and approach the walls at a walk. A real army would do this for two reasons: it doesn't tire the soldiers as much as a cross country run (obviously), and it maintains unit cohesion. I know there is no exhaustion mechanic in Bannerlord, but unit cohesion is the more important concern anyway. As it stands, in an attempt to maintain unit cohesion on the approach to a defending enemy, I advance my units slowly toward the enemy by giving them several short distance move orders and allowing them to regroup after each one. 1.4.1 has solved some of these issues, because TW did some work in this area (units maintain better cohesion during a charge), but a "Slow March" order would be ideal.
