  1. Ok, then maybe all those people withouth join dates could be people that migrated, and instead of gitting their join date maybe there was some sort of glitch that resulted in them having no date? I'll try to pester some of the active oldtimers, and possible one of those that lack join date, with pms and see if I can get the full story :) Thanks for the answers so far, it was faster than what I expected given the nature of the question. If anyone has extra information, be sure to post it. Thanks. Yeah, I know that, that is why a reacted to only being like a week later than him :) Didn't point out that I knew it since the question was mainly about the creation of the forum.
  2. Minutes ago I saw a post from Dark0ne and noticed that he has been a member since july 15 2003. Noticing that I myself joined shortly after I wanted to see how many people joined between him and me. Browsing through the Members section of this forum I saw that Dark0ne is indeed the first person with a "join date", but there are hundreds which lack such dates. My question is: Did those members join before Dark0ne, in an era where there was no such thing as "join date" and other such combersome things, or do those members simply lack "join date" for some other reason? In extension, if those people joined prior to there being a "join date", when was the Nexus forum created?
  3. I finished watching the review, and it is as i feared all along. They did not change the interface, and they did not give us hotkeys. Its good that you can atleast use to mouse for the "map, skills, inventory, quest" interface, but the fact that it is even left in there proves that they care less and less about the pc players. It is a brilliant interface for a console with a controller, im not arguing about that, but they should have done it diferently for pc. I guess this is why they refused to show any gameplay of the pc version and that they themselfs was a little embarased about so openly saying "f*** you" to pc gamers.
  4. Hilarious thread! I wish I had a girlfriend currently so that my post here could have some relevance aswell. If I did have one, I'd try to convert her to the dark side ;) When she was converted I would get her hoocked on a game series that takes some time so that I would get the "skyrim fever" out of my system while she was busy with that. Hmm, maybe the "Baldur's Gate" series( i, ii, bhaal), that would have keept her busy for atleast a couple of weeks.
  5. Mouse/keyboard. If i remember correctly they have stated that the UI will be different on pc, so maybe we won't have to suffer a lot. Having watched the xbox demos and the leaked intro, I can must say that everything seems so adapted to be played with controller, i wonder if bethesda can un-consolify it enough for it to work with keyboard/mouse. And if they don't, then i will be really opset and possibly demand a refund (or a free controler and wait while someone finishes bethesda's job).
  6. Why did they have to turn TES into a console game? If the amount of buttons really are that limited on a controller that no toggle button can be found that could alternate the function of "pulling the trigger" then maybe they should not be designing games for such a limited and restricted platform. If the game had been designed for computers, instead of being mearly a port, then there could have been different buttons for blocking and attacking. Simple solution to a really simple problem, if one is not limited by tiny handheld controls with too few buttons. A solution to the problem would be to dissable attacking simultaniously with both swords (if it is even possible to attack with both at once?). Pulling both triggers at the same time would then result in a block, while using them one at a time would result in attacks. If that does not work then I think that they really should try and find some button on the controller that could work as a toggle. Example: "LTrigger + RTrigger + X" = block, "LTrigger + RTrigger" = attack with both.
  7. A map made on a material simmilar to burlap... GIVE ME! We need to get info about if this applies to collector's edition aswell or not. If it does, then I will pre-order the collector's ediotion. I actually started my Elder scrolls journey as a poor teenage boy with nothing but a Morrowind cd some weeks after it was released. I was totaly lost and could not find anything, so I then copied a friend's huge map that he got when he bought the original game. This huge, poor quality map made from several A4 paper sheets taped together with some clear tape managed to survive in one piece for some weeks. When it fell apart I was so envious of my friend's nice and perfect map that I simply had to have one, and therefore I bought the original game. I still love the maps they include in these games, and I'm sure that there are many more people that have experienced what I just described.
  8. I read that article and found another thing that made me a little worried. It is about the thief quest and the thief stuck in the spider web. I remember reacting to this during the g4tv demo also. At 7:50, Todd cuts lose the thief from the spider web and the interviewer ask if one had other options than to simply free him. Todd completly dodges the question by simply narating what is happening right now, that the thief "took off and gets his". I really hope that bethesda dont forget about actual roleplay amongst all their streamlining, redesigned level scaling, unscripted-scripted dragons and xbox optimizing. For me, the fantasy world "fluff" is enjoyable, but what i really like is the difficult choices, with a real effect on the world. In a RPG, knowing that the trapped theif had the item you were looking for, there should be several options for proceeding, through either dialogue or actions. Some that come to mind are: Kill him and take the item Taking it from him and leave him there Through dialogue choosing to believe him and let him go and get the item afterwards Convincing him to give the item to you first and in return release him afterwards (lie or truth) I understand that this is still pre-alpha, but still, it concerns me that every option (even attacking him while in the web) results in freeing him and then having to chase him down and kill him.
  9. Yeah, and I stayed up to 2 am for this. Well, atleast the dialogue is slightly different.
  10. Was anyone else surprised by the bearded guys voice? I thought it was gonna be a helluva lot deeper XD I was thinking the exact same thing. It looked like a really bad movie dub or something like that hehe. Skyrim soon! :D
  11. Good post, with source and everything. I think this will be a new and cool system to play with, atleast in a fantasy rpg. However, i really hate how this make magic look. Magic, by comparison to other games/worlds and even to TES itself, is not something that a mage "equips" in one hand to be cast until some other spell is "equipt" in that hand. Magic is the will of the caster manifesting itself on the environment. The mage chooses the appropriate spell and then casts it. This takes planning and focus, which is maintained and aided by hand gestures and sounds. I realise that the game mechanic is similar in both cases, you choose the spell and then cast it. But the two approches creates large differences as to what magic is and how it works in the game world. If it turns out that my mage in skyrim will be running around with a flaming fist (not a BG reference hehe) as long as any fire type spell is "equiped" then i might not even buy the game at all.
  12. Hmm, I'm not sure if I agree with this design decision. Streamlining things is nice if done in moderation, but to me this looks like they've simplified things a bit too much. I too, feel this way.Todd says that "You have the same amount of possibilities because you still have Magicka instead of Intelligence and Health instead of Endurance" but what about other factors? What decides how much you get staggered, or how fast your magicka regens?Does your magicak regen at the same rate no matter what?Does every NPC move at the same speed in the world? And what decides how much weight you carry? It all gets more and more depressing the more I think about it. I am also worried. Doing it this way means that all those values ( magicka regen, max carry weight, resistances (physical, magic, poison...), spell power, etc) will have to be regulated by traits instead. That is, if they can be custumized at all. Too me, this sounds like the worst news yet. Either this change lets us spend all the traits on things attribute points used to do, or it means that they drastically reduced the amount of character builds by not letting us change those values at all. If my higly educated elf's schorching fireball does as much damage as Joe Swordarm's does than I will be really dissapointed. If I have to spend lots of trait point to change it, then that might be just as dissapoiting.
  13. Personally, mounts is not that important to me other than the game mechanic of reaching destinations faster. Since "speed travel" is going to be used in Skyrim, the game mechanic of horses will be a slightly redundant solution. If I got what i wanted, there would be no "speed travel", that would increase the usefulness of the mounts to many players since they would really require a mount. Are you serious? It was a long time ago, but im almost sure that morrowind did not have mounts, and that is still the best TES game i have played. Im entirely sure that the Baldurs Gate series did not have mounts, and that is the best RPG game i have played. I can name countless of others, but i think one example from each of the categories you mentioned is enough. Horses, or any mount, is thus not required for a game to be good.
  14. Regaring spellcrafting. One of the ansers Todd gives to IGN, to me sounds like there will be no spellcrafting in the game. Is he saying "you can enchant, but not spellcraft, since enchanting is the magical crafting skill"?
  15. Those two sentances means that it is impossible to do so without two video sequences, showing the same events from slightly different angles. Therefore is is impossible to make a 3D video without re-rendering the video with the camera set slightly to side of where the camera was in the first rendition. This is something only Bethesda could do. Read the thread, it is only two pages long. I know, it is an irritating and almost useless comment to make. But in the long run, proper behaviour will benefit you greatly.
