Most players should have encountered those Hired Thugs at least once by now, and since they'll follow you anywhere, they tend to show up at the worst possible times, whether for you or for them. I have a few, but I'll try to keep them short, since they're mostly about the thugs getting their asses handed to them by other NPCs. First one is at High Hrothgar. You can already tell how bad this is gonna turn out. I was in the middle of the shout tutorial session, and had just went outside to learn Whirlwind Sprint, but Borri was taking his time to leave the building, so I did a quick wait-1-hour. Along with the Greybeards came the Hired Thugs, happily strolling along with them old men towards me. Declaration of intent to kill follows, and they start chopping. I start running away to summon a flame atronach since I was a squishy mage, then I turn around just in time to see the whole fight stopped by repeated Ice Form shouts. The Greybeards then mopped up with some more breath shouts. I didn't even get to do anything. Unfortunately, Lydia was caught in the crossfire, so when she thawed out, she immediately started hacking away at one of the Greybeards. More Ice Forms. Then when she went into her crawling "Hold on a sec, lemme catch my breath" animation, the Greybeards turned on me. Needless to say, before long I was pressing F9 while watching my frozen tumbling corpse. My second story is from another one of my characters. There's that Thieves Guild quest that ends with you on the lying ground during a cutscene, and get carried out of the dungeon afterwards. So my character wakes up and I'm talking to the NPC lady. Remember, this game's conversations happen in real time? Well, in the background, behind the NPC, there was this familiar-looking trio slowly walking up the staircase that goes down into the dungeon entrance. I hurriedly finish off all the conversation options just in time to break conversation and hear their opening line. Combat starts, I move back to try and spread them out a little among the rocks and debris, only to see the NPC who I was talking to earlier kicking the crap outta the guy at the back. I think I managed to get a total of 2 dual-wield power attacks in before she wiped them out. There's something to be said about their job dedication, despite their tendency to fail spectacularly. One group follows me all the way up the 7000 Steps, and the other follows me all the way through a long dungeon filled with deathtraps, only to turn around and walk right back through all that once I get brought out of it, presumably through one of those special dungeon shortcut exits that brings you back near the entrance. So, anybody have any stories to share?

Sneaky thief with 2-handed weapons, viable?
Excaliburp replied to Excaliburp's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Given the conflicting reports about the Shrouded Gloves' interaction with sneak attacks, I rushed into the DB storyline to test it out. It doesn't work with two-handed weapons. Welp, guess I'll be sticking with Nightingale and Thieves Guild armour then. -
Sneaky thief with 2-handed weapons, viable?
Excaliburp replied to Excaliburp's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
I'm now around level 7 or so, smashing my way through Dustman's Cairn with Farkas. So far, I've been unable to sneak attack more than 1 guy before going into an open fight, but I'd expect that to change with higher levels of sneak. That said, I'm pretty satisfied with the character right now. He demolishes any bandit outside of chiefs in 1 sneak attack, and is pretty durable in an open group fight too, thanks to Restoration. Seeing guys get smashed across the room with a huge hammer as a sneak attack has yet to get old. Looking forward to eventually getting Volendrung or any of the later warhammers, because if smacking people around with a warhammer is fun, smacking people around with a warhammer with a huge head has to be even more fun. Pardon me for asking, but have you confirmed this? As in whether the DB gloves work with sneak attacks from any melee weapon? It would widen my range of targets a lot more if it were. Thanks. -
I'm testing out a new character using Two Handed, Light Armor, and Sneak, with a little in Restoration for the sweet stamina heals. Are the high base damage of two handers enough to 1 hit most things (as in your run of the mill bandits, for example) with basic 2x damage sneak attacks through the game? Not being able to kill bandit chiefs in 1 sneak attack is fine with me. Also, do the Shrouded Gloves give its boost to sneak attacks in general, or just with one handers? I'm playing on Adept.

Backup magic for sneaky archer, illusion or conjuration?
Excaliburp replied to Excaliburp's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Illusion seem to be the overwhelming victor here, so I'm gonna give it a go. Thanks for the suggestions guys. -
I'm playing a sneaky archer character, and perk focus has been on archery and sneak so far, with a little in smithing and light armour. I've realised that there are some situations where sneak attack shots alone are simply not enough, either due to too many guys in the area who will start combing the area up and down as soon as an arrow flies, or the target is too tough for 1-3 arrows to take down, like dragons. So, I've felt the need for some sort of backup magic for when the situation turns bad, either Illusion or Conjuration. I know Illusion synergises with sneaky types very well, what with Muffle and Invisibility, and Illusion spells being silent, but the mind-affecting ones won't be useful against some of the more troublesome enemy types until Illusion 90, which is too long to wait. I know I can grind illusion by spamming Muffle in town, but I'd prefer more natural leveling with this character. I'd already screwed my previous games up by grinding Smithing via iron daggers. And then there's Conjuration, which will only be useful when things really go downhill, since I do not intend to use bound weaponry, but the extra bod(ies) will be a massive help in tanking the bigger encounters, though it would change the playstyle from "sneak all the time" to "sneak till found then summon something and shoot in plain sight". What do you guys think? Thanks in advance for any suggestions. P.S. I'm not considering dual 1-handers to be a choice here. Dual swords are a great switch from dual daggers for a sneaky backstabbing thief guy when things go bad, but I want to keep out of melee range as much as possible with this character. Squishiness being a main concern, the fact that I'd played dual 1-hander thief before being another factor.

Crash when I mouseover Riot Shotgun
Excaliburp replied to Excaliburp's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Mod Troubleshooting
Before I begin, I would like to thank you guys for the help. At least I'm making some progress towards figuring out what the problem is here. I assume the bonus effects you are referring to are stuff like the PER +1 on hats and things? It's a riot shotgun from vanilla FNV, not a mod, so it probably doesn't have any outlandish bonus effects that some modded weapons might have. The mod kits I'd applied on the weapon were the 3 from WMX, and they were all applied after WMX was first installed. There is one somewhat related issue though. Before all the problems started, riot shotguns in my game were renamed to Remington Riot Shotgun, probably by FOOK or Project Nevada, I don't know which. Once the problem hit, it was reverted to Riot Shotgun, while all my other weapons retained their changed names. Maybe one of the above 2 is overwriting the other one somehow, and causing a conflict with whichever one WMX is supposed to be compatible with? So, how would I go about changing it back to WMX data? I've tried reinstalling WMX last in a series of mod reinstalls while trying to fix the problem, but it doesn't work. The strange thing here is that the riot shotgun seems to be the only one that's been hit with this problem. If I had messed things up while installing the new WMX version, all my WMX-modded weaponry should be causing crashes, but they are all fine. -
Crash when I mouseover Riot Shotgun
Excaliburp replied to Excaliburp's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Mod Troubleshooting
@ Gribbleshnibit8: That seems quite likely. I've removed my riot shotgun from my inventory using the console for now, and went to buy myself a new, unmodded one. I can mouseover this one without problems, but am unable to apply any mods onto it. @ ozziefire: I don't think this is the case. I have other weapons with a full 3 mods on them and they are still working fine. @ drktrper: What should I be looking for? I can see a whole load of red entries for the riot shotgun in FNVEdit, but I'm not making much sense of it. I've never used the program for anything other than making merge patches. -

My game crashes whenever I mouseover my WMX-modded Riot Shotgun. This happens both in the Pip-Boy menu and item container menu. The problem started right after I updated some mods, which I did in one big shot, so I can't really tell which one it was or what I did wrong with it that caused the problem. The mods I updated are below. Project Nevada to 2.2 PN-WMX to 1.2 WMX-FOOK and WMX-FOOK-DLC compatibility patches to 14-07-11 batch WMX-Arenovalis textures CP to 1.08 I did some fiddling about, uninstalling and reinstalling various parts of PN and WMX and some how managed to get it to work again for a while. Then I noticed that my Brush Gun textures were a little screwy, and reinstalled the Arenovalis textures, WMX, and related CPs. And then the problem started up again. One thing I noticed was that when the problem starts, the Riot Shotgun's name reverts back to, well, the vanilla name Riot Shotgun, as opposed to the mod-renamed Remington Riot Shotgun. All my other guns still have their modified names while the problem is in effect (eg my .45 Auto Pistols are still named Colt M1911). Any help would be greatly appreciated. =================== Load order below. Is there a registry mod for NV plz?
Excaliburp replied to Elbubsio's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Mod Troubleshooting
Taking a wild guess here, but if you are merely afraid of losing the mods you had then you could always just reinstall the game in same location, letting the installation overwrite the existing data files. Just throwing out a suggestion. -
I'm having this problem with Boone not following me properly, though he still responds, shoots nearby threats, and moves to new areas with me. I believe it's similar to that Veronica bug that happens at the end of her quest, where she just stands there outside the bunker. I've tried sacking him back to his home, but he immediately talks to me again right after the sacking dialogue is done. I can refuse to take him back, and he will just carry on normally to Novac. Rehiring him, however, causes him to perform yet another force greet right after I end the dialogue. This will also happen if I let him go back to Novac before rehiring him. The problem started after I got him to wait outside a cave, after which I went inside and used moveto player on his refid, then went back out of the cave. Silly, I know. Can anyone help me with this problem?

Cannot equip gloves

Bump? -
I had the Hatch Operator Gloves Desert from TGs Armor Collection equipped, and then suddenly realised that they were unequipped after completing Come Fly With Me, and that I couldn't reequip them. I click the gloves, hear the equipping sound, but they don't get equipped. I tried equipping black gloves fresh from the TG gloves box, but that didn't work either. I've tried unequipping everything I was wearing, but even then the gloves wouldn't get equipped properly. Then I tried equipping the gloves from the Ghost Bodysuit mod and the right glove went on, but the left glove had the same problem as the Hatch Operator gloves. Can anyone help me with this problem?

Player leaning in a weird direction
Excaliburp replied to Excaliburp's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Mod Troubleshooting
Unfortunately, no. I played for a long time before I realised I had this problem and also did not use any save other than quicksave and autosave. I gave up and started an identical character. I hope I don't get this problem again, and neither does anyone else. Argh. -
My character suddenly started leaning backwards and towards the right whenever I have a weapon out, be it a melee or ranged weapon. In 3rd-person mode, the model looks normal when the weapon isn't out, but when I draw any weapon, the model automatically aims higher than where my crosshairs are pointing, and she's leaning awkwardly to the right as well. Firing the weapon causes the bullet to go where the gun is pointed at (higher and a little off the the right) instead of the crosshairs. Punches and melee weapon attacks go high as well. In 1st-person mode, for some reason, I can shoot and punch straight with hipfire, but going into ironsights causes the shots to go high like in 3rd-person mode. VATS shots and attacks go high as well. My (Readius) Pipboy's location on the screen is messed up as well. The first time this problem occured, the Readius was too close to the camera, and a little tilted to the right as well. I tried reloading a few times, and it fixed itself, only to come up again 5 minutes later in an even more messed up location; tilted 45 degrees down to the right, and so low that I couldn't even see or click on the submenu headers on the bottom of the Readius Pipboy. Does anyone know any way to resolve this problem? Thanks in advance.
