Ha!.. It's a pleasure to read this!.. Sometimes, I get the feeling that too many gamers want to finish the game in 50 hours and never get past Whiterun...
My experience is not much different from yours, I'm over 400 hours now and still very low in the main quest - and have not yet started the Civil War. (Truth is I already played it on PS3 and want to have a completely different experience on PC).
What I have done in all these hours?
- I love riding around in bad or good weather, by myself or with followers, and almost never use fast travel either,
- did a lot of farming and mining walking around,
- been a hunter for a while,
- sometimes simply gaze at sunsets or snow storms for hours,
- explored many Dwemer ruins, which I love, caves and Ancient ruins,
- hunt for hawks feathers and beaks on the rooftops of Solitude,
- sometimes simply camp on a river bank and swim around for hours, fish in Riften,
- other times I'll storm down on bandits' camp for the adrenaline,
- been treasure hunting for a while,
- I tried many followers and settled to marry Solitude's Housecarl who makes a great companion (never knocks me off the cliffs when she comes running behind me - and actually has the ONLY bearable voice in French!.. ;0)
- I love the small discoveries of camps, houses or small settlements that are not on the map,
- I'm level 62 (had to go back 5 levels because of glitchy mods) and the only quest I actually finished is the Companion one 'cause I did not want to remain a Werewolf,
- and like you I suppose, I try many mods, bug, CTD, disable, go back to cleaner saves and rethink my perk tree along the way... Actually, I love nothing more than finding a good mod I know I'll be able to keep running for another 100 hours.
I'm amazed at the fact that, even though I already played it on PS3, I keep discovering stuffs I had never seen before - and I'd truly love to make it last.
The only thing I miss in Skyrim, compared to Fallout 3 for instance, is a clear, strong, storyline where you felt your character had a real motivation and was growing along the way...
Have you been taking screenshots too?
Just a few screenshots... like 8-10 :P
Very nice to know i'm not the only one not rushing the game ;)
-
bump.
alright... now its 115 mb and it just keeps getting bigger! What is causing this ?! I've waited for 34 days and the only thing it did was to increase the size of the savegame...
well dammit.. guess I'll have to live with it and eventually delete the save
-
I've seen other people have the same issue, and they fixed it with a complete re-install.
-
I have played Skyrim altogether in almost 300 hours and I still haven't finished the main quest, and I have not finished any of the civil war factions (Imperials and Stormcloak)
The main reason for this is because problems often have occurred with my saves so I had to delete them (due to mods & simply wanting to try another way of approaching the game).
The other reason is that I kinda doesn't want to finish it. I want to save it or something.
I feel like if I finish it, the save game might loose value when I'm RPing but I don't know that yet because I haven't finished it yet!
I have been spoiled the main quest, thanks to my friends and the internet but not much :P
Some of you people might wonder what I've done in these hours;
- almost never fast travel
- stops to gaze at the amazing environment
- does lots of other quests which I encounter
- enters random or passing dungeons and crypts
- and I actually RP to settle down, like this one time where I married some chick in Shor's Stone I actually pretended to be a miner there for some time where I would travel to Riften and sell my stuff (and when I got bored i resumed my travels).
- done companions 2 times, college 2 - 3 times, thieves guild 1 time and brotherhood 1 time
- constantly downloading new mods and testing them out
- i can't come up with more stuff but I generally walk around and everywhere and find stuff.
I've had skyrim since it came out and it amazes me. It feels like I have done every quest, but theres always some new things I find during my travels which keeps me occupied.
Anybody else around here which has kinda the same experience as me?

1. TESV.exe
2. properties
3. compatibility tab
4. check "Deactivate Visual Themes"
Tell me if it worked
-
Try to right-click on the TESV.exe and go to compatibilty page and Deacivate Visual Themes and tell me if it reoccurs ;)
-
Try to turn off Adaptive-AA from the control center and tell me what happens :)
You can turn it off by switching it over to the Performance side (multi-sample AA)

Okay so I have this wonderful savefile with around 80 active mods. I've played on it for 25+ hours and the size of the file is already 85mb. Whenever I save I need to wait 30 seconds (I am a very frequent saver; save after looting, save after and before entering a new cell, save before talking to someone, after talking to someone, after quest, after obtained quest, after events, before attacking enemies blablablal savesavesave you get it) which is really annoying.
It's obvious that this savegame is a lost fight, which is really sad because in these 25 hours there is an newly married arch-mage with just has settled down with his wife and his 4 other companions (on relax) which soon gets consumed by a crack between time and space so that everything in that world never happened or existed (aka deleting the save, and don't blink).
Here is the problem:
I can't find a way to reduce the filesize (debloat it) and fix this very time-consuming quicksave (which probably is because of the savegame sizes massive size.
During this savegame, there have been uninstalls, installs etc of many mods. I have like 5 companios (+1 follower spouse) and I rarely use fast travel. I open chests but almost never leaves them empty.
I haven't tried yet to wait for 10 days but that's my next step
^ information which might be useful ^

*Bump / Update*
I tried to change the iPresentInterval=0 to 1 and it cappend the framerate at 60 but this sound does still occur... Even at 60 fps. I wonder what can be causing this...
Edit:
And I found a video of the sound
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucXHTE1tPkk
Note that the sound is there before he starts messing with the rabbits.
My new theory is that the sound comes from npcs, and it triggers by high fps. When I type "killall" in an Inn the sound stops.
I'll just hope this problem goes away after a while... since I don't know any ways of fixing this... :/
-
One thing is that objects don't really spazz out until hit or walked on by the player and/or npc. other than that, they will stay motionless, even if stuck in walls and etc.
super ultra settings? odd i don't think i even seen a computer run a game at 100+. mainly 45-80. something isn't right. might be something triggered when you hit 100+. if its not there when your below.. :wallbash:
Yeah that spazz out was just an attempt to describe the sound :S Didn't really know how to, but it sounds exactly the same as if an NPC or something is walking over it (i dunno).
Yeah I have everything on the highest settings possible, but the only place I can get an FPS higher than 60 is in the interiors when looking at walls or down. When I look around in the inn my FPS goes down to 60 and when I enter Solitude and look over at the guard barracks place (don't remember its name) my fps drops down to 20-30. Usually when I walk around in cities or towns or outside, lets say, exterior my fps is around 40. And when I walk around in the interiors it varies from 60 (when looking around in the rooms) to 80+ (when I look down or at the walls).
Edit:
My desktop:
ATi 5970
i7 930 2,8 ghz
6 GB RAM
And I also use a performance fix for Skyrim. It's a d3d9.dll .

Long Description:
At first I noticed this sound in the interiors of Inns/taverns or whatever they are called. It seemed to go away when I was looking away from the walls, like looking at the bonfire or across the hall. And as soon as I began staring at the walls again, the annoying sound began again.
This sound sounds like an object is stuck somewhere and is "spazzing out" somewhere like its stuck inside something.
When I tried to record a video of this with fraps, it didn't make any sound (%¤#). And when I turned off the video capture, it started to make sound again (Guess how frustrated I was at this point). Then I noticed something strange about the FPS counter. When I looked at the walls or down, the FPS showed over 90-120 and the annoying sound started at once the FPS reached over 100. When I then looked around in the room (away from the walls) the FPS fell down to 60 and the sound stopped. Funny? And this only happens in Inns!
So basically, what I'm trying to do now is to figure out a way to lock my fps at 60 so it wont go higher (like vsync).
Short Description:
Hearing annoying sound inside Inns. Finds out that when I get fps higher than 100 the sounds start, and when the fps goes down to 60 it stops. I need to cap my fps at 60. How?
Note:
I do have a iPresentInterval=0 in my SkyrimPrefs.ini file (I will try to change this to 1 and see what happens).
Anybody experienced the same?
-
The DarnUI settings has to be edited in some kind of .ini file I think. It doesn't save the changes ingame, at least when I used it.
But for the video settings, do you have any FPS optimizers for Oblivion?
-
I managed to fix the problem with the HDR and AA, but now the game suddenly freezes for 2-3 seconds when leaving a house for example.
It does also freeze a few seconds when loading a save after death. It looks like it skips to show the loading screen.
Anybody knows why?
EDIT:
Also, it seems to crash when I first wait 1 day, then a couple of hours later of waiting it will CTD.
-
I managed to fix this by reinstalling the game. I don't really know why but it worked :D
-
Turns out this problem solved when I disabled HDR. Anybody knows why? Why did this suddenly happen? I'm gonna try to disable Natural Weather and test again. But I can't really play with HDR disabled, it looked horrible. I might try to disable different stuff.
EDIT: Might be because of a windows update. Anyways, I'm reinstalling the game now. I believe (and hope) there is some corrupted files that made this happen.
-
Try to enter the gate and leave it, if possible. You can also try to go back to an old save.
-
In fact, rundll32.exe should always run, or else your system will screw up. What you could do is to go to "Services" and disable SuperFetch. This is only temporary. When it comes to the CPU usage to zero when you play Oblivion might come of a bottleneck on something. The processor usually handles tasks for your computer and when it doesn't it will force it on example your GPU which will lower your FPS. This can be solved in a CPU overclocking. I wouldn't recommand you to do this if this doesn't affect your performance (rundll32.exe). In some cases, this isn't really a thing to worry about. I got a i7 930 and a 5970 and I can't get the full performance out of the 5970 because of bottleneck. I lack of skills when it comes to overclocking so I let it go and live with this minor issue.

I installed Oblivion on my new computer a few weeks ago (maybe a month). I modded the game heavily and played the game. Now after 14 hours of playtime suddenly I start to see black square box shadows in the distant and they fly away when I get close. Also, I do also see some black lines in distant and over the bridge from Imperial City to the farm thing (doesn't remember its name).
Most likely, this seemed to be a AA problem (because of the black lines). I tried to disable all AA I could find to disable. I use HDR and CCC's AA (Wide Tent 8x) to get AA ingame. I turned this to application settings (with is no AA). This didn't change anything. So then I disabled all the shadow settings in Oblivion and all the annoying shadows disappeared but still there was something weird about the places they used to be (like a black fake shadow or something).
I got some screenshots:
At this picture, take a look at the ground in the town.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f267/naithsaber/ScreenShot0.jpg
Here you'll see the "escaping shadows up the hill almost where the cursor is.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f267/naithsaber/ScreenShot1.jpg
The "escaping" shadows on the little island.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f267/naithsaber/ScreenShot2.jpg
The shadows escaped when I went close to them. They also kinda jump when I jump to. (Might be because of HDR?)

It sounds like a load order problem... If you haven't tried BOSS yet I suggest you try it :)
Edit: Oh never mind, I misunderstood the question :(
