Blog Piece: Nexus plans for stability and infrastructure improvements.
Wauthan replied to Dark0ne's topic in Site Updates
Heh, almost forgot to renew my membership. Thanks for the reminder Dark0ne. -
Heh, no need to worry I think. I can't speak for others but I didn't post because I don't have anything available that I could build your mod on. I'm a complete novice when it comes to 3d-modelling and what little I've turned into FNV mods is not something I'm going to publish. I'm that crappy. The only thing I'm any good at in this game is scripting and "turning something into something else" using FNVEdit. But no need to feel frustrated because you're not getting any answers here. Very few ever check this forum, and most of them are people who got requests of their own, like myself. Since you got a very specific request it's probably better to contact a specific modder directly to see if they might be interested. FNV is a pretty old game now and many productive modders on the Nexus seem to have moved onto Skyrim. But check the weapons category and sort the mods by last update. That could at least give you an idea who might be able to help. Sorry for the craptastic response but damn I know how it sucks to feel invisible when you got an mod idea you really want to see in-game.

Ranger Andy and Station Charlie
Wauthan replied to Catman66's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Mod Ideas
Hmmm... well there's Free the Slaves by Kentington. To bad he's not active any more, since it would be easy to add a quest and more NPC slaves to free to his mod. -
Thanks for your reply Lt Arbrecht. Pity that I don't have Fallout 3. Wish I could have tried out that mod to check in-game balance. I've been trying various ideas for the "burning" object effect but I haven't really nailed it yet. Hard to balance the power since the weapons are so different from each other.

Futuristic sniper rifle request
Wauthan replied to Skyviper086's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Mod Ideas
Well that's certainly an unusual design. It's almost like a rifle version of The RHINO. Can't help you with the model but as for spotting for artillery strikes there's the excellent Playing with Firepower by Talkie Toaster. His "Forewarned" perk shouldn't be that hard to extend to sniper rifles. -
Better Crippling and Dismemberment
Wauthan replied to RedClairefield's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Mod Ideas
Well I don't know about dismemberment but I think XFO has fairly well balanced penalties for crippled limbs. -
Health and melee hotkeys
Wauthan replied to TrooperScooperMKII's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Mod Ideas
Ouch! And I thought the XFO penalties were harsh enough. You sure don't mess around when it comes to getting hurt in-game. These effects sound pretty lethal just by themselves. I would say that such a mod is very possible though. There might even be various mods around already that, when combined, gets fairly close to what your looking for. But it would take quite a bit of additional scripting to put all of these things together. I'll have to say that it sure doesn't sound like the mod would be much fun to actually play. At least not for someone who like a fast pace trough the game. I assume that you would want the Hydra drug removed since it would negate all the penalties immediately with no ill effect? But with your system even single crippled limb means that it's better to run away than to keep fighting. Leg injuries become very frustrating indeed for that reason. And the aftermath of almost every battle would become a time sink, unless you play as a stealthy sniper. Not saying that the idea is bad. Just that it might take a while to balance out realism and fun so that neither is lacking. Also, to make sure that the battles don't start to lag due to too many scripts activating at once. -
This request sounds very familiar somehow. Let me check something... TRASCH should in theory allow you to turn any NPC into a vendor. Companion Share and Recruit - New Vegas allows you to recruit some of the vendors into followers. Those two mods together with an enemy spawn mod (IWS or Random Encounters) would be very close to what you're looking for.

Using sneak I slowly crawl up to a band of Fiends before unleashing a burst of pure hell that engulfs the entire group. The effect? A bunch of not very startled fiends bearing down upon me while ON FIRE! Sheesh... Thought flamethrowers were created to terrify the enemy not the guy using it. I thought there was a mod around that added some kind of fear or demoralizing effect on top of the "on fire" effect. But I've come up with nothing so far. Anyone know of such a mod or how it could be created? I guess a perk that adds a "flee" response whenever I use a Pyromaniac weapon could work. But then everything would run away as soon as it got hit, not when it was on fire, which would make firebased weapons way to strong. It would be better that it altered the burn effect instead. That would also be a work around so the mod would work with any firebased weapon, even those added by mods.

Need Ideas for Enclave Propaganda Posters
Wauthan replied to joshua121's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Mod Ideas
The new version of the posters look much better IMO. The problem is that the colours you're using are sort of bleeding into each other. This makes it difficult to see the image, especially if they are both damaged and at a distance. Not a problem if you're going for huge billboards in-game. But smaller than that and it will be sort of difficult to see any details. Sadly that would mean that your posters will quickly become "background noise" rather than set a mood. Hope I can give you creative feedback: I can easily see that you're going for screenshots as a base for the posters and then improve them with photoshop. I think you could make things even easier by using some of the mods here at the nexus. My advice would be to grab a weather mod with really nice clear blue skies. Nevada Skies is tough to beat there. And the special moods will help with the intimidation posters. Next the Imaginator. This would let you set a "photo quality" that's uniform for all the posters. Now for "paper quality" install Cinematech and choose a setting that doesn't desaturate the colours but creates strong contrasts. This will make it easier to see details in your posters. Perhaps Dynavision 2 could help to really bring the focus of the poster into view. If so you might as well save yourself some UI juggling and install Directors Chair. A mod created to support these kinds of projects. You're poses and messages are very appropriate. Though a bit unfortunately combined together. You probably already have For a Few Poses More installed.Remember that you're trying to make the viewer love the Enclave, not fear them, and create hate for it's enemies. Pictures with armoured soldiers should be saved for messages of unstoppable power or unbreachable protection. The enclave is trying to reach common people after all, so pictures with happy "normal" people in nice pre-war clothing is good for general messages or information. Feral ghouls, supermutants and especially centaurs attacking the viewer are perfect for scary messages. These creatures with their distorted hideous human faces are absolutely perfect for scaring people into obedience. 1. Aiming for a better tomorrow today. - Well he looks badass but why is he aiming at the viewer? Is the viewer the enemy? Why is he hiding his face? "A better tomorrow - Today!" is more direct and propagandaish. A classic pose would be the armoured soldier kneeling protectively next to a child and pointing into the distance. A young man and woman in in pre-war clothing looking into the distance against a beautiful landscape would also work. If you want it to be an agressive poster the same message works with a soldier either aiming at a human enemy or having killed an abberation. 2. Rember! A Clean workplace is a safe workplace. - A good message but not a propaganda poster. If you got Old World Blues installed then a young woman in a nice "science" get-up posing in a laboratory next to a vacuum cleaner would work. This is, after all, a message to the researchers assistants. And cleaning in the pre-war falloutiverse was indeed the womans job. 3. Together - For victory. - Perfect propaganda poster save for the fact that it's the same face repeated. The armoured soldier could be in the foreground, since he looks like an officer, and if your using Dynavision 2 you could have ordinary enclave soldiers in the background saluting. You don't actually want the Enclave soldiers, the good guys on these posters, to look like a scary faceless horde. 4. Delta labs - Well you really need scientists and engineers posing around some war machinery like a vertibird, giant gun or robot. The current one is simply not very good. 5. Real soldiers obey orders. - Message makes no sense with the image. Should be of a human enemy or possibly supermutant acting sneaky or cowardly. Possibly while an enclave officer looks on in disgust. Or it could be a NCR soldier fleeing from an enemy while an enclave soldier stands his ground. 6. Doing what must be done to purify humanity - This would not be on a propaganda poster. This is a threat or a pretty uncomfortable truth depending on what side of the enclave you are. Perhaps "Ours is the burden - We shall not falter" is a better message since it makes the actions of the enclave seem noble? Posing soldier with his back turned to the viewer walking away from a pile of dead feral ghouls perhaps? 7. Marching towards a purer America - Good poster as it is. Text needs a contrasting colour though. Perhaps "Marching towards a new America" is better? Purer sounds strange and a bit obsessive. 8. The human race needs you! - A classic. Change the text to "The Enclave Army (or whatever their armed branch was called) needs you! The Enclave, after all, didn't really want to save all humans. 9. Stop idle chatter - Heh? Sorry, that doesn't work well. The enclave are not robots after all. A RL example is "Loose lips sinks ships". Perhaps "Defeat - just a careless word away." With a supermutant nightkin posing menacingly over a fallen enclave soldier, possibly with a regretful civilian looking on. 10. Holding the Highground - Very good. If the soldier was looking at the vertibirds and saluting it would be even better. 11. The Price for Freedom is Eternal Vigilance - I would switch that around to "Eternal Vigilance - Securing our Freedom!" and have a whole mob of eyebots against a clear blue sky. The eyebots should appear to be friendly on a propaganda poster after all. -
Yep, that didn't take more than a couple of clicks with FNVEdit. You're right. They helmets look a lot better in-game now. Not to mention that it now makes sense why the voice is muffled. Heck, might even convert the old helmet graphics into some other kind of headgear that both genders can wear. Edit: File is uploaded now. Metal Helmet - Female Version Removed
-
That sounds like a very reasonable request. It's probably just a matter of deleting the female specific model so it reverts to the standard (male) one. Might take a little while for me to tinker with it put I'll get back to you ASAP.

Well the Portable Tent by Fee510 can easily be set up to sort any kind of items, so that would work. As far as I've been able to read there is not a single mod project in the plans that would display all DLC uniques. It's probably easier to use mannequins instead, which a few housing mods have implemented already.

Instruction Manuals - Perks for followers
Wauthan replied to Wauthan's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Mod Ideas
Thanks for the information DevinPatterson. Yep, I ran into that problem after what I thought was an initial success. Seems "in party" NPCs are handled differently by the game so perks are out. And a newly published mod on the Nexus pretty much does exactly what I was planning to implement. Guess that puts an end to my mod idea. It's far easier to simply give the npcs gear that alter their stats and abilities than invent a pseudo-perk system. -
Need Ideas for Enclave Propaganda Posters
Wauthan replied to joshua121's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Mod Ideas
While all of them looks nice only the "Together for victory" comes across as a typical propaganda poster. Propaganda, especially in the style of the fallout theme, tends to be groanworthy hamfisted and corny. In a way yours look a bit too serious. Worth1000 has regular Fun with Propaganda photoshop contest that could perhaps give you some ideas.
