  1. SO, I went to do a basic disk cleanup and found out there are several folders/files in the TEMP folder, nearly 3gb worth! Curious, are these safe to delete?

    "...\BioWare\Dragon Age\temp" ?

sounds like your installation files didnt got deleted or something.

not sure if the toolset uses the temp folder.

    mine is empty.

  2. Err, .dazip are just unpacked into the override folder. Theres really no difference ?

    That is not correct

    When a dazip gets installed:

    - The XML data for the mod is inserted into AddIns.xml

    - The mods data files are copied to the AddIns folder

    - The mods uid_package.erf is copied to packages/core/data

A dazip mod normally dont installs anything into the override folder

(altough ive seen a mod that was hybrid and had both, but thats the exception)

  3. Nice server upgrade, it would be cool if on the top black bar there was a link to each nexus site so it's easier to jump between each one.

Id second this. it would be great to easily switch between the 3 sites rather than type manually. +some cross site marketing cant hurt !

I allready suggested that in another thread, but i guess it cant hurt to support this here too =)

  4. Version 2.0b is now released and available here directly on Nexus. >>> Nexus Download Site

2.0b is the "stable" version, and will not be updated as frequently as the open beta version which is still managed on the support site.

You decide which version you want to use, but new features will go to Beta first before getting to the stable version.

If you have any problems with DAModder, use the support site so your issue can be solved as quickly as possible =)

  5. I am happy and proud that this is now out in the open, it has been a pleasure for me to be able to help test this from the start,

i spent quite some hours to test and to make sure mods install/uninstall without problems.

I encourage any Mod-Users to give this a try and to use it to manage your mods, you will love it and dont want to use anything else again i can assure you =)

Here is the Nexus Page: http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=286

All other important links are in the first posting.

And i encourage any Mod-Authors to pack their Mods in compatible packages so they can offer the best information to the endusers.

Its easy and will just get easier: http://damodder.tenderapp.com/faqs/builder...re-override-mod

    Sample packages are here: http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=250

Thank you for making this John =)

  6. I installed it and out of the 10 or so mods that i have installed all seem to work fine as before, maybe i am just lucky, or the game blows up right before the last fight :P

Now that this is out the Toolset Patch/new Version should come out also soon i guess?

That is correct, although, for 90% of people, there is no good way to know - and in general the use of packages\\core\\override should be avoided for mods.

Just a reminder - any files you might have in the packages\\\\\\\\core\\\\\\\\override directories from mods made on 1.02 or early WILL interfere with this patch and should be deleted.

Umm, obviously not *every* file will conflict with the patch. I'm guessing only those that change core scripts and GDA's (and not every one of them) will. Stuff like textures and head morphs should not conflict in any way.

In this posting it is confirmed that only files that change core scripts and GDA's will "maybe" cause trouble, well thats nothing new, they could do that with patch 1.01 too.

I think you should be relative safe with override mods, surly with texture replacers and such.

My guess you can use MachDelta's Forced Deathblows mod without a big problem, not sure if it will still work, i guess it should.

And if it dont just delete the directory in your override folder again. I dont think you can do any permanent damage to your game or saves with that mod.

    Hope that helped =)

  8. found a list of files that where modified, not sure its complete its out of a forum posting in the official forums:

  9. I just saw that Dragon Age: Origins 1.02 Patch is out, here is the changelog:

    Dragon Age: Origins 1.02

    Patch details:

Many of the fixes affecting balance, gameplay, or plot scripting are already included in the Xbox 360 and PlayStation®3 versions of Dragon Age: Origins.

You do not need to download patches prior to Patch 1.02. Downloading Patch 1.02 contains all previous patches. Downloading Patch 1.02 will provide you with all patch data available.

    Balance

    * Daggers now apply 0.5 points of damage per additional point in dexterity and 0.5 points of damage per additional point in strength, as originally intended. This increases dagger damage for high-dexterity characters.

    * During combat, mana or stamina reserves now correctly regenerate more quickly when reserves are low. This allows players to occasionally use an talent or spell in the later stages of lengthy fights.

    * When exploring, mana and stamina now regenerate more quickly at higher character levels. This reduces downtime between fights.

    * The spells Force Field, Crushing Prison, Cone of Cold, and Blizzard now have shorter durations and/or longer cooldowns. This ensures that combatants can no longer stun-lock each other by repeatedly casting the same spell.

    * The cooldowns for several low-level sustained abilities are now shorter. This ensures that players are not penalized for accidentally deactivating them.

    * Certain battles were not scaling properly, resulting in excessively difficult fights. They now scale as intended.

    * Enemy corpses now drop health poultices and money more appropriately, resulting in less clutter in the player's inventory.

    Gameplay

    * In rare cases, enemy corpses were selectable when they contained no loot. This no longer occurs.

    * Party members whose combat tactics were set to defensive behavior no longer stop attacking after using a spell or talent.

    * In rare cases, combat tactics conditions could fail to determine whether a character had enough mana or stamina to use an ability. This no longer occurs.

    * The Rally talent no longer repeats its audio effect if it is active during certain conversations.

    * The Rally talent no longer deactivates upon area transitions or conversations.

    * The Shimmering Shield spell now deactivates when the character is out of mana.

    Plot *Spoiler Warning*

    * Promotional downloadable content items now remain in the player's inventory when standard items are removed at the end of the dwarf noble origin.

    * Repeatedly talking to Duncan after gathering the vials in the Korcari Wilds but not the treaties no longer provides duplicate experience.

    * Leliana's personal plot can now be completed if the player substantially increased her approval (through gifts) before talking to her.

    * During the siege of Redcliffe, enemies are no longer able to spawn in locations that would break the plot.

    * Bann Teagan no longer disappears when he is supposed to be accessible during Urn of Sacred Ashes.

    PC Specific

    * Controlling a summoned creature (like a ranger's pets) during certain special area transitions no longer results in odd behavior.

    * Creating a character in a custom module did not create a folder for saves. This could result in corruption of main campaign saves. This no longer occurs.

    * In some cases, the class icon was set incorrectly for characters imported from the downloadable Character Creator. This no longer occurs.

    * The options menu now includes a setting to automatically download previously purchased content that is not currently installed.

    * After installing new downloadable content, the game now always reminds the user to restart the game.

    * The icons for some promotional downloadable content items were missing. They now appear correctly.

    * The screenshot upload GUI would stop working from time to time on the client. There was a memory override that was fixed. It is a client fix. It doesn't affect the other problems we have seen on the server.

If you have allready installed it please give feedback to how its performing, whats working and whats broke.

Especially if it changes anything in regards to mods & toolset

Thats the patch thread in the official forum: http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/9/index/397752

    EDIT:

The download location that i forgot: http://social.bioware.com/page/da-patches

  10. I can understand that John, i am sure DAModder has much more to offer and pepole will like it and pick it up as soon as the beta is public.

I know i will, i saw how hard you worked to make it work with every mod out there, and from what i saw its much more advanced than the other one =)

  11. Hi and welcome to the Forums!

I remember those games too, i even had Bards Tale in the big flat Silver Box with the 5,25″-Diskettes when it came out =)

    Those where the times!

  12. "To have knowledge available, you need to have people who can dispense that knowledge."

Exacty! Thats why i made a Suggestion... :wallbash:

You must be a politician, because you again evaded to say anything about my Suggestion.

I try to make it now perfectly clear and un-misunderstandable:

    Suggestion:

Please make a Newsposting on the Main DANexus Page that encourages modders with knowledge to visit the Forums

That is my Suggestion, take it or leave it. :thanks:

I dont want to discuss whos right or wrong or what will be and what wont.

Thank you for looking into the Forums tough, a stickied Thread with some Links and helpfull Tipps

where everyone could add his own tipps/links would be a good thing.

  13. Thank you for your Support =)

I may quote from the Beta Forums, from the Readme for Beta 1.9 from DAModder:

Only mods packaged as .DAZIP or .ZIP are supported. Mods packaged as .RAR or .7zip are not, and will not, be supported. Sorry. Ask the author to use ZIP!

The problem lies with .rar and .7zip files itself, the libraries to de-compress them cost money, so they cant be supported at this time.

This is the current state, most likely it wont change as far as i know, but John has the last word on this its his Application.

  14. It's not like we can just snap our fingers and suddenly a knowledgeable person will appear who is willing to spend hours a day answering questions. Nor is it possible to go surfing around the web to find such a person and bribe them to visit these forums. If they want to stay and help out, they will. If not, then not. We really don't have much say in the matter.

Thats right, i agree, but you can at least try to attract pepole? Why would that be wrong?

I say to wait because that is what eventually worked for every other section of the forums. When I first started posting, Oblivion was much the same way DA is now, there's lots of people asking for help and not many who would try to answer. Rather than ignore those posts, I tried to answer as many as I could, even if my answers were not useful or what the poster wanted to hear. One of my more common responses was just pointing out that at the time there weren't many people who could work on new meshes and probably wouldn't be able to help with this request. It didn't help, but it did get the message across that the game was still being figured out and that if people really wanted something, they should attempt to make it themselves.

Fallout 3 forums were much the same way, but to a larger degree initially since the CS wasn't available yet. People wanted things, or wanted to make things that weren't possible with the available tools or knowledge. Even still there were some people who eventually came around and tried helping others (I assume). I wasn't ever really able to get FO3 to work well on my computer, didn't spend much time working with the CS, and likewise didn't bother to check those forums. However, nature abhors a vacuum. Although I wasn't around to help answer questions in the FO3 section, eventually others who could did show up.

Thats all fine and fair. I do also my best to help pepole and to answer questions and whatnot. I really do whenever i can. Actually, in what you described i can see some resemblance to my situation now.

But who gurantees you those pepole will come here and not go somewhere else? Because it worked 2 times it must work a third time too? Well, i wish i would be so sure about that like you seem to be.

I realize how pompous this might sound, but that's not my intention. My point is that with every moddable game there are always people who will eventually show up and fill the void. The reason why this might not seem obvious is because we've been extremely lucky with the sorts of knowledgeable people who visit these forums. Rather than say that we need more experts to magically appear, how about being more encouraging of those who are atleast trying. You don't need one knowledgeable person to answer every question, all you really need is a few semi-knowledgeable people who answer those questions that they feel like answering.

I never said that "we need more experts to magically appear", please dont turn my words around, i said the forum would benfit if there are more knowledgable pepole to answer questions.

You are dramatizing and overemphasize what i said to make my request seem ungrounded and shallow. I dont want to start an Argument, but let me say i think thats unneded.

"how about being more encouraging of those who are atleast trying" Do you want to suggest i wouldnt be gratefull for everyone helping to answer questions with that? I can assure you i am.

In the last sentence you are right again, and its meaning is exactly the same as what i wrote what i wanted to achieve, why are we argumenting here?

Have a little patience. Dark0ne has built a better mouse trap. The DA people will beat a path to the Nexus. But it will not happen overnight. It takes time for interested and competent people to find us here. Many sites do not allow 'advertising' a competing site on their turf. But the people who do make mods, utilities and give advice will eventually gravitate here because we do have the largest user base. Give it a few months and the DANexus will be every bit as useful a resource as TesNexus and FO3Nexus.

Right now, because it is new the DA mod community is extremely fragmented, with people in dozens or maybe even hundreds of sites. Many of these will close or fade away as the owners lose interest or move on to other games. This will leave those hard line DA people who frequent those sites in need of a new place to go for their daily DA fix. Many will end up here.

As Vagrant said, we saw the same kind of thing on TesNexus, and again on FO3Nexus. A gradual growth eventually leading to a very helpful site. Hang in there It will happen. And you are in on the ground floor.

Thank you bben46 for your comment, its encouraging. But also very optimistic in my opinion, but thats fine. Its great if all that works out like at the other Sites.

Sure all good things take time, i understand that, but again, whats wrong with showing those pepole the path and leading them here to where they are needed NOW?

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I dont have THE ANSWER to this problem, but i have a suggestion.

Please make a Newsposting on the Main DANexus Page that encourages modders with knowledge to visit the Forums,

like the Builder Troubleshooting and User Troubleshooting and the General Modder Forums.

If more pepole share their knowledge there it will benfit all users and modders, and it will lead to a better Forum Community.

    Please consider my request.

I hate to quote myself normally, but this time it seems i have to, because all of you are busy ensuring me that i am wrong and you are right.

Thats not the point, i didnt came here to argue or fight, i came here to ask for support, and jet not one of you had even spent one little word about the suggestion that i made.

I am not sure what to think about that.

I havent attacked anyone, have i?

If you feel attacked then please excuse me, that was not my intention. I just stated what i think and what i think could be done to improve the situation.

I expected that suggestions for improvments are welcome, maybe i am wrong.

It seems you are all very confident that all will work out over time, thats okay, maybe it will.

But in the meantime there are still alot of pepole that want to get help here, and not enough pepole that are helping (in my opinion).

Whats bad on wanting to advance the growth and speeding up the process of getting more pepole here?

I really feel now like i am fighting windmills here when i had initially just thought i make a simple suggestion.
