  1. Funny vid. Merry Christmas!
  2. It looks slick but I'm afraid I find it a bit cumbersome... It will take some time to get used to the new layout.
  3. In response to post #46973515. #46981800, #46982930 are all replies on the same post. Couldn't get into it either. The game play killed it for me and I got terribly bored after a few hours unfortunately.
  4. I salute Dark0ne's take on the issue. All I can say is that it's hard to be hopeful regarding the future. I wonder how things will turn out once the big players come into play regarding the issue of copyright infringement. It's my understanding that free mods get a pass when it comes to things like that but once money enters the equation I doubt the people holding the rights to some franchises will just stand by and watch without sending their lawyers to get a cut or taking down mods.
  5. If you don't feel like using the console you can use this little mod of mine: http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/37494
  6. Interesting thread and points. I have yet to complete the House questline... The part about blowing up the BoS irks me, there should be a way around that. I've been meaning to play a merc with no conscience and see how it goes. The Legion is brutal but enjoyable as long as you don't overthink it (Caesar is the only one with acual brains if you ask me). The NCR is despicable and corrupt (consider the fate of Cassidy Caravans and the fact that the NCR won't do anything unless you go out of your way to make it happen). That leaves the Yes Man route which is let's face it is tantamount to anarchy and chaos... Still my "favourite" because I root for the underdogs most of the time and House is a capital jerk (Vault 21 anyone?) and the Bear and the Bull only oppress people (they do it differently but still). Of course my Wild Card Courier's last move would be to make sure the Securitron army is disabled once both the Legion and the NCR are pushed out from the Mojave (not sure Yes Man would play ball on that one though). The good thing is that there is no "good" ending no matter what. House is as obnoxious as they get but he is striving for stability and independence (if not from him from other factions). I still have a hard time coming to terms with his demands though.
  7. I look forward to trying this out in the game, keep up the good work. Just bear in mind that many players don't like the idea of adding the InCombat reference as it makes it less easy to abuse the disguise (it's not that hard to provide the original script as an option however).
  8. This is really interesting. :) I'm not familiar with the character you're referring to. I assume that when you recruit him you get a perk that makes the faction non hostile so it would be a real pain with my modified Ghoul mask script (hiring and firing wouldn't be practical). My idea works well with an object that can be equipped it doesn't work well with a follower IMHO. I don't remember how it worked in Skyrim and I never had a look in the editor while I was still playing the game. I assume it would be possible to make it so that the game doesn't keep track of your character's offences. It may be a bit tricky however (just like the Grey Cowl in Oblivion remember?) and it can be used to abuse the game which is one of the reasons why I didn't like the original implementation of the ghoul mask in Fallout 3. I would be more concerned about breaking the game and messing up quests though. I'd suggest having a look at these mods that try to do the same thing: Invisible for No Reputation by sagittarius22 http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/41943 Invisibility for no Reputation by Sagittarius22 http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/39347 I haven't tried them myself so I can't comment on the differences but check out the comments there are some ideas that you may find interesting.
  9. Simply by adding this condition: Where XXXXXXXXXXFaction is the name of the faction (of course). It's only three lines but the difference is huge because whenever the PC is in combat the ghouls will become hostile. It means that if a Bloatfly attacks your character it will blow his/her cover. It also means that unless you kill a ghoul with one shot you will have initiated combat and they will turn hostile until you break out of combat and equip the mask again. I understand that what I'm suggesting isn't for everyone but it feels much less cheesy. I've been using this condition for my Fiend Friend mod for FNV and before that for my Infiltrations mod for Fallout 3, it's simple and it has the advantage of forcing you to be careful whenever you're around enemies posing as one of their own. Last but not least you can't abuse them anymore since initiating combat will make them hostile again (but it's fun to sit back and let them do the dirty work while you watch). The ghoul mask gets really cheesy when you start using it to slaughter ghouls. I thought about making everyone hostile while your character is wearing it but this has the potential of seriously messing up the game (especially in FNV with the reputation system). I've been meaning to explore a bit further the disguise system in FNV. It's much more interesting that the simple ghoul mask script but I never got around to it. As long as it is working and doesn't make a mess of things why not keep it simple?
  10. It will probably be sorted in a while. Too much traffic maybe? I did delete my cookies first just to be sure. ;) Doing something else sounds like the right idea. Maybe I'll just play the game instead of browsing for mods.
  11. Have you tried this mod: http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/46685 Looks incredibly good for a leather face character. :) Regarding the script, I've been using a modified version of the ghoul mask script for years, I find that adding an "InCombat" reference helps making it (much) less cheesy.
  12. Same thing here, but I don't think it is cookie related as I've noticed I can log in the Fallout 3 Nexus or the Dragon Age Nexus but not the New Vegas Nexus. It's annoying as I was logged in a couple of hours ago.
  13. A Merry Christmas to everyone, Peace on Earth and everything.
  14. Some games still look pretty good especially with wide screen mods but the ones that used 3D graphics and not painted environments tend to age badly. It's a pity because some of the old games have much to offer to demanding gamers. I still love the look of Fallout and most Infinity Engine games as I don't feel they look that bad. I used to love Might and Magic VI the Mandate of Heaven and I still love the gameplay but I have a hard time playing this game because of the graphics. I can understand players who won't play a game because of the graphics. The idea of spending dozens of hours looking at pixellated screens does not sound very appealling. I personally love playing Arcanum but I don't play it because of the way it looks (although I love the art direction) and I understand that many players can be turned off by the graphics... It's a pity because this game is an amazing CRPG that no modern game can be compared to.
  15. Kudos to you Blaa.nOx for posting this link. Anything that makes Skyrim play a little more like Might and Magic is a good thing.
  16. It would seem that it's simply a memory question (not enough of) which is why restarting the game solves the problem and not a problem of missing textures (although it may look like it). Unless you are upgrading your system I'm afraid there isn't much you can do except restarting the game once in a while when it starts becoming messed up.
  17. Weird. Are you using Vista or Seven? It may have to do with Administrative rights.
  18. Well, the thing is Skyrim is an RPG. You expect at least a bit of cause and effect in any RPG worth its salt. Skyrim has the potential to have an excellent cause and effect system in place, but Bethesda just totally ignored that aspect of the game. I mean, a dragon can literally slaughter an entire town except for one person and that last person will act totally oblivious to what happened. He won't even bat an eyelash and just continue as if everyone is still there. I agree with you on the plasticity of the game, though. Quite true. I may be seeing Skyrim as an improvement over Oblivion I haven't been playing the game at all for weeks if not even longer. IMO Skyrim stopped half way and didn't take things far enough. FNV may not be perfect but at least it gives you more of an illusion that NPCs are taking into account your actions and that's hardly the case in Skyrim. In fact it's so heavy handed when that happens that it actually breaks immersion. Just like when a guard starts saying things about your character that don't really make sense because there is no way the guard would know that about your character. Skyrim may be an improvement over Oblivion it's still pretty much the same game (with a better dialogue system). Being bored after playing the same game for years is not entirely unexpected.
  19. I wouldn't go as far as saying that Steam ruined Skyrim since the game exists on several platforms and that would be the real limiting factor (as it has been pointed out). However it's fair to say that Steam doesn't prevent piracy. In fact unlike us pirates don't even have to deal with Steam in the first place so they don't have to worry about an update breaking their games. Piracy is bad (no argument here) but it's crazy when companies enforce solutions that make it harder for players who've paid for the games to enjoy them (especially for the players who like most of us on the Nexus enjoy mods). The thing about Steam is that it forces an update when going online and as a result it has to be kept offline just to prevent that. I also don't like the fact that I have to keep Steam running at all time. If I turn it off then it means I have to log on before I can play again which means that I need an internet connection and that if there is an update my modded game is screwed. I can understand that Steam can be really useful to players who play multiplayer games for its social network and its market and general ease of use or for players who can't install a patch but personally as a single player kind of guy I'd rather be using a good old DVD check. As much as it was annoying to switch between CDs and DVDs at times at least we didn't have to worry about unwanted patches breaking our games. IMO Steam is a perfect tool for players who don't want to be bothered with manually patching their games, gamers who value convenience over the idea of having a say in what is going on in your game folder. I see it as a necessary evil in order to play FNV and Skyrim but if it were not for mods I'd say that IMO it would be better to use a console rather than running a Steam game on a PC.
  20. I've enjoyed reading YellowEagle's posts. I really don't care for Steam and I miss the old days when we had a simple CD/DVD check. As far as I'm concerned I don't care about the stuff Steam offers, I don't buy games from Steam and I don't see the point in chatting with "friends" when I'm playing a single player game. The problem is that not only do we have to run Steam to get to activate and play the game but we have to keep it running at all time to play the game...
  21. A big mod like this is a very ambitious project and one that needs to be maintained. Sadly it seems the modder responsible for it is no longer available to support it (for now). Does it mean the mod is dead? We can't tell for sure as sometimes real life can get in the way. My advice would be to track it in order to find out when an update will be available (if any). Bear in mind that this mod was made pre-CK and looking at the description it seems to be a WIP (last version is 0.52 which means it is in an advanced stage and not yet version 1). Assigning the blame to a mod is not necessarily the right move unless you can actually make a case and prove that the mod is breaking things which in turn can help patching it. Basically what I'm trying to say is that if you want a more stable game experience you may be better off using smaller or less extensive mods or wait for a mod overhaul to be thoroughly tested with compatibility issues that are comprehensively documented (something that will take months of hard work at the very least). The modder responsible for this mod is very ambitious but still managed to get many things done (without the CK). That alone is to be commended.
  22. Are you using Vista? Sometimes it can get tricky with compatibility files. Anyway good to know you solved the issue.
  23. You should follow what Kevkiev posted regarding your load order. Regarding textures, reinstalling is fine but do you have custom textures in your data folder? Leftovers from previous installs? It's a long shot but if you make sure your texture folder is not the culprit then maybe the problem is somewhere else (have you messed around with your fallout.ini lately?) since you're saying that the problem was caused by mods you've uninstalled did you check if anything was left from these mods that would explain the problems you're having? Some mods come with custom BSA files which may include custom textures. Also the "game cache" thingy in Steam that Kevkiev mentioned is not a bad idea.
  24. You fail to provide your own "sources" so if you don't have reliable numbers all you're doing is playing a guessing game. Regarding the ratio of guns per capita this is an estimate taking into account numbers from 2007 they may fail to reflect reality accurately as it is highly difficult to assess illegal /undeclared weapons. In all probability there are even more guns in the US. I for one would rather consider a lower ratio than engaging in wild speculations. According to the highest estimate we would have around 3 million guns for a population of 65 million (this is a sensitive topic, official numbers are much lower -the same is true of the US). FYI the murder rates I've mentioned in my previous post are from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. I don't want to rain on your parade but I'm talking about murders because when considering "crime" our terminology is not the same and collecting data for statistical studies require following procedures so we don't end up comparing apples and oranges (hence the usefulness of reports from specialized organizations like the UNODC). Murder rates are not rising in France. We numbered 1,600 murders in 1995 and less than 800 in 2010. These numbers are from official French sources (police and gendarmerie). On this subject in Corsica (French territorial collectivity in the Mediterranean Sea) there are ten times more guns than in mainland France. Interestingly enough Corsica is also the part of France where the number of gun related deaths is the highest.
  25. It's funny but I don't really care about it anymore...
