Sorry, that is not my field of expertise. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable chimes in to help you. Curious as to why even use symbolic links though ? I mean the target of the symbolic link (in this case the game) is taking up space no matter where it resides, so what is a symbolic link saving you ? Other than having it take up space elsewhere. But you can just launch the game (and all its mods) from the "elsewhere" place it's residing. So.... yea. But I admit, I most likely could be missing something here. As I've never used symbolic links.

Hey everyone, I wanted to report back once I had the proper time of doing things right and testing, etc. I also was able to join the person's tutorials I been following's Discord. This helped a lot to truly do things as recommended. That said I am not done of course (modding is a growing, living breathing thing) but I have about 90 plug ins running now. ALL for now are dedicated to bug fixes, patches to fix this, that, menu improvements, patches for those, bug fixes to fix bug fixes type stuff, and Audio improvements. And all the essential tool mods (SKSE, BAE, SAC, SSEEdit, Ffdec, BethINI, SDK CK, etc..) SkyrimSE is running super smooth and in a way that just feels much better than ever before. I am not into my graphical or gameplay improvements yet, so I will not speak on that for now). The point of this report is to say everything is indeed running flawless and snappy. So I can indeed stand behind the instal techniques explained: Steam App = C drive (SSD) root directory NOT inside any default program folders. Steam games = D drive (SSD) root directory in a folder named Steam Library All modding stuff (your organizer, tools, etc.. = D drive (SSD) root directory in a folder named "Modding Utilities" Saves still go to default location which is on C drive I have a backup folder for all save BACKUPS and various SSEEdit backup generated files on my D drive root folder named BackUps as well. This is convenient and a good idea. I can vouch for this method working extremely well. With so far 0 issues. I will disclaim though, I un-installed everything first and clean re-installed it. This I feel is always a key to having things work well. I didn't just drag my folders out of the C drive to the D drive, as that's not as clean and can lead to the issues some people claim they have. Thanks for all involved with help here.

Thanks xrayy for that valuable info. You know you have a great point, and I think its wisest I just let "good enough be". So I'm a leave it as is. I did do a lot that I could. And it is running fine. The invasive qualities of Windows 10 do make me angry though ! lol Thanks again everyone !- 20 replies

Awesome HeyYou. Thanks ! Much appreciated. Carefully looking over that. Man, I have to admit I don't even know where I would start. Like, how does this instal ? Its possible this is too advanced for me. I spent literally 15 minutes on that page and I still don't even know how to download it ! lol The whole page looks like code. No instructions on instal ? Curious if this is just out of my ballpark. I'm a simple man.- 20 replies

The Secrets to Un-Bloating Windows 10 64
xInfaRedx replied to xInfaRedx's topic in Hardware and software discussion
Cool, thanks for the info BT. So I guess I have no real issues then and am doing best I can, because that was the thing that happened. Even though I got all updates turned off on a GPE level, it auto updated a system security thing. And I had a worry that it meant it wasn't working and the next OS update that comes along with a slew of incompatible drivers lol would wreak havoc on my Nvidia card, etc.. like the stories I've heard of recently. Windows is so invasive its not even funny. But it sounds lie from what you guys are saying is, even if you go to a root level to turn them things off, system security/stability updates will happen regardless ? If so, then hopefully I am fine. And good to know you've had no issues. Ok them telementry (such a funny word isn't it?) things I believe that was the first thing I did on my own. As they were not too hard to come across. And I am a severe and diehard privacy advocate so them type of things are the first things I disable. I didn't need a tutorial for those. BUT if you guys are saying there is some advanced deeper settings of those to get into (this Reclaim Windows 10 thing), then please share ! Walk me through it. But the "metered connection" things I found were completely the opposite, as they were to limit my data usage ! But HeyYou was making it seem like there is a metered place that limits windows updates ? Please clarify guys.- 20 replies

The Secrets to Un-Bloating Windows 10 64
xInfaRedx replied to xInfaRedx's topic in Hardware and software discussion
Thanks for responding with some info HeyYou ! So with all due humble respect, why would I not want to completely turn off updates ? To my knowledge updates cause problems if you update 1 thing, but not another that then may need to be once you did the other update, lol The ol catch 22 all the time.. Especially with PC's. I'm new to PC's but been around the tech world long enough to know and see this as gospel. I'd like to hear where youre coming from on this. Much appreciated ! That said - how do you set the metering ? I believe I tried that from a tutorial, as by default its set to 80% windows updates, 20% user. Which is ridiculous and the guy said to make it 100% user 0 windows. But when I went in to try that, my choices looked different than his, and which (left side/right side) means what ? Every way I tried made my internet slower, so I put it back to default. But I would like to get to the bottom of that setting. What is "telemetry" ? And yes I will do that, can you please walk me through the procedures ?- 20 replies

The Secrets to Un-Bloating Windows 10 64
xInfaRedx replied to xInfaRedx's topic in Hardware and software discussion
Thanks for chiming in with input to help BeyondTom ! So I might have come off like I am doing this for resources, etc.. But I agree with you. As my computer specs are also ridiculous dope ! And its not really about that for me. Though I will tell you, when I disabled wifi and removed all networks except "Network 1" - my internet speed jumped up from 600mb/s to 940 mb/s. (I pay for 1gb/s) - So seriously, windows is a mess. Believe it. Its things like that, tips like that that Im looking for as a side note. (less important) Most important is -its more of a issue with auto updates. Them things are invasive and more times than not completely ruin a system once it set up for something, cause the something might not be compatible with a piece of the update. One rule of thumb I know is, if you got a computer running perfect, and don't add or update any of your regularly used apps/games/etc.., then NEVER let it update, as what you got is all perfectly compatible. So until I update something else, I do not want my Windows system updating any of itself. (figured this was common knowledge by now). The driver epidemic thanks to windows updates is famous. Look it up. Updates can ruin everything, just like not updating *when needed* can ruin things. So you want to control it manually when it does update, cause only you know when is best. Anyway, just curious if anyone got them advanced tips on how I can get in deep and stop this thing from updating. So any advice for those that are savvy at that, please let me know the secret.- 20 replies

Thats for sure. I always use high end voltage regulators and power conditioners (from my music knowledge) for all my electronics now (TV set up, home stereo, and now PC game room). I use Furman, they are the best bang for buck, but there are higher ends out there. Bottom line is, my gear is all guaranteed to receive dead spot on 120v period. No matter what my spikes and drops are.. within reason of course. And power conditioning, though less important for gaming is seriously important for tube music gear. Dirty power = no good. That said, monitors benefit from power conditioning. To get a consistent color representation, etc.. But that is also splitting hairs. But I'm a rabbit hole hair splitter I tell ya !

Hi. I am 100% totally new to PC's. For 1-2 months now I've had mine (purchased for and used for 100% gaming only) all is well, running fine. Being who I am during this time, I also wanted to make sure to turn everything I don't use or need of, disable all stuff un-needed, de-bloat, etc.. And biggest thing - **Make sure all auto updates are turned off permanently, not just temporarily**. So I am pretty sure I did most things. Watching tutorials, etc.. I even disabled my WiFi on it cause I will never use it and I felt it was getting in the way sometimes of a super quick ethernet connection. (just to let you know how I am). lol But I need any advanced advice and help, tips and pointers on any and all advanced level settings, tweaks and optimization I can do to have my system 100% focused on gaming alone. Everything else disabled, off, etc.. The main thing concern I have now is my auto Updating still seems to be doing some things even though I totally disabled it the advanced way via GPE on some tutorial I seen. I feel this thread could also help others, so thanks for helping if you can !

Am I having a SSD or MO2 problem
xInfaRedx replied to Pelgar's topic in Hardware and software discussion
Oh sounds good then ! Glad all is well ! I do hate intermittent problems. They are worse than total disaster blow up problems, because at least the total disaster you know its fixed once its fixed because you HAD to fix it to move on. lol Intermittent problems are like... hmmm, was that it ? did I fix it ? With the possibility of it coming back at anytime lingering over you at all times. Anyway, fingers crossed for you man ! Enjoy gaming. -
Yea, them rabbit holes are what sucks the fun out for me too ! But there must be some subconscious fun in it, because I keep causing one to pop up ! haha I do this in my quest for that perfect tone of instruments when recording. (which makes this rabbit hole look simple.) Then I always tell myself, there is no reason to do this, its more about the song you write than the tone. BUT I always love going on the quest I guess, cause I do it again and again. I got so many old school vintage tube pre-amps, compressors, eq's, reverbs, mics, etc.. that took me literally years to find what I want and why, then more years finding it to purchase (cause they are rare and obviously not in production no more). Thats the biggest rabbit hole. Then of course the day of recording causes for a short rabbit hole as well using the thing you bought the best way possible, etc.. Tone is INFINITE dude. Infinite. I can not express that enough. Luckily with computer stuff, there is less analog soul of variables in it to be such a ridiculous rabbit hole.. As its more cut and dry at least. BUT the staying up to date with latest thing does become the rabbit hole. Just easier to control and accomplish is all.

Am I having a SSD or MO2 problem
xInfaRedx replied to Pelgar's topic in Hardware and software discussion
Hi, I am a complete rookie, so my brain is not helping you exactly here, BUT I can pass along what I am freshly learning cause it happens to be applicable to this issue possibly. See I plan to use MO II myself soon. So I tracked down the MO II god, and On the MO II gurus discord, when asking them how to do everything properly, 1 common thing I get 100% of the time is to NOT have your game or MO II installed on your C drive. This seems to be a very widely accepted consensus for all MO II gurus - Instal games your going to mod on a dedicated separate drive from your OS drive, and then also install all modding utilities on that same drive. I could be totally wrong, and I admit I am a total newb at this. But I thought I would pass on this information and knowledge I have just recently learned. Because it was ironic I just learned all that, then I came here to get some help, and I seen your post and thought I'd share. Also, I know its a total PITA, but instead of moving, clean installing everything as described would be best. Start vanilla, then build from there. Hope you get it ironed out brother ! -
Wait -- Windows 7 is 64 bit ? I didn't know that. Seems so old to be 64bit. But if that's the case, you should be good for a while. (relatively speaking considering your interests and stuff). Totally agree, controlling the bottleneck. Cause there always is one somewhere. OMG, haha, what a story. But the real moral of my long post was (lol) some people need to sort of stay up on modern stuff, and others don't. No wrong or right way. I just happen to be the type that always gets nipped in the butt cheeks if I fall too far behind. BUT, that's cause I always had Mac. Which is also far less dangerous to stay updated with. As their stuff just always works, no conflicts, etc.. The good new about windows is, it seems their OS's are supported for soooooo much longer than Mac OS's. So I shouldn't have to update my Windows OS for prob 10+ years, and still be able to use the newest components, games, etc.. (in theory by observing the past).
-
Oh yes you are right there. Mac and Microsoft don't even try to hide that fact anymore. They specifically advertise the new OS's are a seamless feeling between your mobile devices and desktop. Me personally I don't like it, as I like the separation. But again, I am weird. I am not the masses. And I do have to totally respect the fact someone like my mom for instance actually gets by much better the way the new stuff is integrated. Ok that all aside. Yes I will take your advice and start up a new thread ! Thanks for pathway to format a HD, I will take a look at that in a sec on my computer to see if its the same on Windows 10. I'll let you know. Oh so the issue with me and update or not update, current or not current, and if not where, though, is unlike maybe a super old school dude like you set in your ways (and rightfully so cause its working for the most important person - you !). Whereas for me - I absolutely need to stay up to date to a certain extent. Especially when on my Mac running Pro Tools (my business DAW). Reason is, is if I do not I miss out on being able to use some of the latest tools/plugins. And in the audio industry they are making leaps and bounds in quality every year. So its a must. (digital for a long time was not as good sounding as analog, but we are getting to a point now where the debate is over and unanimous - digital is getting that good at emulating analog if that's the sound your looking for which I am). But it is also a thin line. Because Pro Tools itself needs to be compatible with the OS you are on, in which that OS needs to also be able to run all the plugins of your desired choice. General rule of thumb is you will not miss out on anything at all if you stay 1 to 2 OS's behind. And its actually recommended cause that's about how long it takes Pro Tools to work the kinks out and run smoothly on that said OS. So that's what I do on Mac and I am familiar with staying behind on purpose, BUT I can not stay too far behind. 1 to 2 OS releases max. Which with Apple isn't that much time ! lol Also, 64bit is seriously important for not only Music apps, but its made games much better too. So there is that as well. So for instance, I won't upgrade my PC OS for quite some time now. BUT I am glad I am on 64bit Windows 10. Its lightyears better than 8 was. 8 was a nightmare. (from what I heard). 7 was the last real Microsoft OS. But realistically moving forward, windows 7 is not for me. Remember I play other games and I demand 240fps to my 240hz monitor. Its only 2k right now, but in a few months Nvidia 3080 Ti will do 4k@240fps /8k@120fps easy breezy- and gaming on that will be soooooooo smooth. This is my direction passionately. And from what I am reading that tech is moving real fast. They actually already have 1000fps/1000hz stuff out there tested working ! But obviously the affordable market needs to catch up. But its moving quick. 8k @ 240 is like only 3 years away. No way super old OS's will cater to the cards that cater to them specs. Everything has to work with everything right ? You go buy the best new GPU that can finally handle 4k@240fps, well its not just as easy as saving up for the GPU. No. You need to make sure your processor is up to date enough to handle that. Then its not as easy as them 2 things, you need to make sure the power supply, cooling system, ram, etc.. can all handle that too. And of course then as you update each thing to handle the last , you get to -- Can your OS handle all that ? So I agree with you, the older OS's were better in one sense, but not in one sense and that one sense I desire a lot. Its why I game. Ram speeds are important too. And only 64bit OS's support the faster ram types and bus speeds, etc.. So again, newest, latest, best is always more future proof for me cause that future seems to always creep up so damn fast ! haha
-
Ahhh gotcha. Ok. I am mainly looking for a Wndows 10 guru and specifically the latest versions cause sadly I am noticing from tutorials online that they differ a touch. I am looking for the kinda complex ways of totally de-bloating the OS properly for vigorous gaming. I did lots of what some really good people say, but I am unsure certain things are doing anything. For instance I can't keep windows from updating certain things. Even though I followed the advanced Group Policy Editor ways of disabling it totally and permanently. Its like it won't auto update windows itself anymore thank god, but the other day it had some update of some OS security thing or something already downloaded and said it would instal next restart. Which was unavoidable. I also have all the security/windows defender etc.. completely turned off. And I use ESET and AntiSpyware Pro manually to be safe. The easier stuff is, I want to know how you format drives on Windows. Mac is easy, I launch "Disc Utility" and use that. In windows I can't find apps as easy, cause IDK, the way its set up is just weird IMO. Nothing is obvious. Like you gotta dig. Anyway, back to the real de-bloating tweaks - Countless and countless videos from advanced windows gurus say.. you have to use GPEdit to disable updates permanently. Ok.. well I followed their instructions, yet windows still did something. What else can I do ? Did I do it wrong ? Also like I said, the tutorials did not show exact way my list of options look like. Maybe due to the version I'm on. ?? IDK man, so frustrating. The good news, is, honestly everything is running fine. So. Maybe I should take your advice and "let good enough be". But I'd like to make sure I'm at the best I can be.
-
Hell yea ! Anything counts as long as you do it different each time. (like challenges). And of course don't do something you simply think is too far outdated to ever be fun again. I'm the same way about certain things. You most likely should only do MorrOblivion, but even within that... its another role play is all I am saying. But you're making that role play catered more to the times is all. Thats understandable. But some things inevitably will be different. So the outlook is.. this is just my role play for now. Same if and hopefully when you finally try Skyrim ! I have still been doing research on the procedures I will take. And ultimately I'm waiting with patience because I am having fun playing the game now as it sits... so I don't know if I want to interrupt that or not this instant. I have other games to think about, (I play Red Dead Redemption II as well) and I don't want to mod them. They both come from Steam, so I am finding out in that case you may want to instal Steam on the OS drive, but out of the Program folders still. Either way you can steer each game install to different locations. And I am hearing if you are not going to mod a game, you should just leave it where Steam likes to instal. So right now I am just talking to them over there about it. Ultimately they said it doesn't matter. Got one mod author guy said he has steam installed on D, works fine, another has it installed on C, works fine. Both though have modded games on D no matter what and unmodded games on C default. Hey, not to change the subject, but how are you when it comes to PC Windows 10 64 knowledge just in general ? Outside of games. Maybe you could help there ?
-
Ha, yes I agree you obviously are enlightened somehow cause you're playing games ! Thats rare for older people. And at that playing Oblivion with the mods ! Thats a whole other level of enlightened. I'm going to look into those or similar mods once I start modding. At least to experience them before I judge. And most of all, to know them. Cause I'm the type that likes to play differently each play through. And I make a rule or two to myself for a character and stick to it. In other words the real definition of "role play". I role play. One time I will be a total law abiding citizen. This character can not even steal anything, so I must skip certain quests and especially stay away from certain factions. Another character I will be a straight up menace to society. I literally kill anything and everything I see. Including guards. Wipe out entire cities. Etc.. a real bad guy. This character also misses some quests too due to that. But is guaranteed to join the dark dirty sleazy factions, not the good ones, then once finished with them I wipe them all out too !. I also of course I will play anywhere in-between those contrasts, but I call it out ahead of time and stick to it. The most popular of course is the balanced character that does bad only for good reasons and mainly is good therefore doing all factions, all quests, etc.. What I am getting at is now with mods, I can take this further. Calling out ahead of time, "ok this time, no fast travel and activate them RF, BPA and BPN mods" (for example) is also a possible "role play" idea for a character. Hence the concept of also having mod profiles within your mod organizer that each coexist only with a certain character in your play throughs. This is also a side point to maybe you could pretend Morrowind and Skyrim are just giant mods to your Oblivion. Sure you might not like them *as much*, but role play it. Thats just your character this time. The rules of the "role play" has changed a bit. Play it out. Might find some fun in there! IE: I know I won't find not being able to fast travel as much fun... but I will role play it to get a new experience. Then again I already had that experience playing Morrowind, so I do/did it. BUT doing it as a role play for a character in Skyrim and Oblivion is a great idea !
-
I can see and respect those points. Really I think its a "to each their own" thing. Which makes these types of games so powerful if allowed to tweak every aspect of them. Cater to all play types/opinions.
-
Yea that sounds cool ! I think they have something like the "Realistic Fatigue" you mentioned for Skyrim. I was planning on getting it. The "Basic Physical Activities" though I am unsure what that is. Remember, a few things changed from Oblivion to Skyrim as far as those things. Some for the better, some for the worse. And forgive me if I say this wrong, cause I forget exactly how Oblivion did it... But in Skyrim, you no longer freeze in place when you pick up that last 0.1lb herb that puts you over your current carrying capacity. But what you then do is move unbearably too slow. The moment you drop 0.1lb's you magically are running at full speed. lol. But not ever frozen in place. There is also (though barely noticeable) something happening to movement as you gain weight to carry. You get slightly slower. You can tell a difference between carrying nothing and 300lbs for sure. Much more snappy movement. But IMO, it all still could use some improvement. My complaint is movement in general is just clunky to say the least. And always has been in all 3 games. I hope for improvement there. I'm curious as to why we can't jump while we are running. I went outside to test if that's possible in real life, and guess what ? Totally possible ! So.... wtf happened here in TES series ? Jumping, starting and stopping strafing from side to side, starting and stopping running to jump, etc.. all this is clunky imo. Needs massive work. Also, IDK about you, but in real life I can run pretty far without fatiguing. I also could do it with 100+lbs strapped to me if strapped on properly and evenly distributed. So its a little annoying when in game I use all my stamina running only about halfway through a small town equal to no longer than 1/2 a mile max. I understand some people like overly realistic when playing a game and others like the fantasy god mode, and other like me like a balance (after all I play games to escape real life) But this request I have to fix is not going to break either. I think we could run much further without losing stamina. I know I can run about 5 miles without stopping once, as I do twice a week. Could even run further with some "my life is in danger" incentive I am sure. Ok knowing that, take a look at some of these characters bodies. They are in way better shape than me ! lol They look like they could run about 10 miles easy without stopping once. In any case I do plan to get some of those more immersive mods. But I do like to keep some "game" aspect here, as that's just me. For instance I seen a mod that takes away regenerating health and something about not being able to save and load anywhere to keep it more like, you die, you die, start over. Like real life. For me, that's not fun. I like to have fun when I play video games. Meaning, I have a tough enough life in real life, I come to games to be that hero bad ass. Not myself ! lol I have more fun being alive and tripping on the storyline/NPC's, etc.. I don't want a overly ridiculous real game (except visually, I will always take that !) I like real as possible storyline and gameplay - real graphics, real gravity physics, semi-real other physics is ok, not so real character physical abilities is ok with me. After all, I am the hero right ? I mean how real is it to be able to cast a spell on yourself to heal or drink potions to magically be at 100% health after taking 15 arrows to the neck ? lol So if that's not real and everyone is ok with it, then why should slowly regenerating health concern anyone ? After all, that aspect is almost the realest cause health does slowly regenerate in real life. Time just moves quicker in games and should ! (Yet another mod I will not be getting is that one that makes game time move at same pace as real life time.) Ridiculous. Not why I play.
