Well Ishara Meradin is a regular contributor, so maybe He\She may take pity on you and help you out.
When you get time, you should have a look at that guide in the Cerwiden mod.
I think my (and your) disappearing changes have to do with a different load order for the dependant mods from when you create your .npc file in game & when you edit it in the CK with a lot less mods loaded a probably a different load number for your hair & eye etc mods.
You have to edit those numbers in your .npc file to match the CK load order or they revert to default.
HairColor:000A0439
Weight:50.000000
Height:1.000000
Complexion:3600BF7C
HeadPart:00051623
HeadPart:0005150F
HeadPart:000EC1B2
HeadPart:0400740B
HeadPart:360012E1
HeadPart:3E00B5C6
TintMask0:00AFB9C8:1.000000
TintMask1:00FFFFFF:0.000000
Complexion:3600BF7C The 36 has to be changed to the load number of EnhanchedCharacterEdit.esp in the CK or I won't get freckles
HeadPart:3E00B5C6 was eyesofbeauty.esp & because it was not at number 3E in the CK, I got default brown eyes.
Any part not starting with 00 is non standard & has to be edited to match the load order in the CK.
HeadPart:0400740B was Apachiihair & by shear luck was still at 04 & so my hair stuck.
If you knew all this, ignore the above, but it is all new to me.

I'm about to give up (again) as well.
No, don't you give up. I'll be checking back later when you've got it sorted & you can tell me how to do it.

I tried changing my Alea esp & as long as I stuck with default colours, the changes stuck.

But if I used custom tints or eyes of beauty eyes, they never showed up.

I hope you get some guidance from a modder, I'm giving up and just going back to playing the game.
Edit: I just downloaded Cerwiden & it comes with an appearance altering mod that has what looks like a very good step by step guide. It might be worth a look if you don't get it sorted.

I am a total noob at this but I have been finding my way through slowly.
You will need to load you hair, eyebrow & eye .esp's into the CK.
And change them after you reset & choose nose 32.
If you disable SGTextures before you run the CK, you wont get the red headband & you can colour your face with standard colours & then enable your SGTextures again before playing.
Or use NPCEditor if you want custom colours, check Hellowsanta's post

But do I need to extract the missing dialogue scripts from the bsa (assuming that is where they are) before I can edit the way Aela looks in the esp?
Is this the reason the dialogue stops when I edit the esp?
-
You have to extract the bsa to edit it in the CK.
Do you mean I have to extract the files from the bsa in order to edit the esp?
Or are you talking about editing the bsa?
-
Yes I have done all that & made a MyAela.esp which works at changing the games default Aela when installed.
I used Enhanced Character Editor & not Chargen Extension, and used default hair, eyes, & colours to try and keep it simple.
The screenshot is with the "Enhanced Skyrim Followers - Aela the Huntress" mod installed & she looks just the same whether I have my MyAela.esp activated or not. ( installed after with MYAela.esp having ESFAela.esp as a master ) I made them compatible as I could with TES5Edit.
The only thing in red is the faction part at the top & the ESFAela.esp name itself. See Pic.
http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag187/johnandmonica/TES5Edit_zps019cef8b.jpg~original
I didn't know how to remove those 3 faction entries from MyAela.esp, but I don't think that is the problem, because it makes no difference if I activate MyAela.esp or not.
If I install ESFAela.esp as it comes & except the default Aela then the mod works as intended.
But when I load ESFAela.esp into the Creation Kit I get a lot of warnings about missing files
"SCRIPTS: Cannot open store for class "ESFAelaCoreDiaogueScript",missing file?"
I was thinking that these scripts might be in the ESFAela, bsa & I tried including that in the SkyrimEditor.ini under [ARCHIVE], but it made no difference.
Do I have to extract everything from the .BSA before I can edit the .ESP in the Creation Kit?
Because it is the Dialogue that is missing from the mod after I edit the way she looks in the .esp.
It has got to the point that I don't really care if I play the ESFAela mod or not, I'd just like to know why it didn't work.

Can someone help me out with a Noob friendly step by step tutorial on how to edit the face of an NPC in a mod & have the mod still work.
I made this version of Aela The Huntress
http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag187/johnandmonica/ScreenShot1_zps0ce85aa9.png~original
And have spent 8 hours trying to get her into the "Enhanced Skyrim Followers - Aela the Huntress"
Others have run that mod with an altered Aela.
But whenever I edit the Aela in the mod, the dialogue in the mod no longer works.

Thanks for the reply aussie500, I had tried a couple of pelts but they were small pelts you would get from looting an animal, so I thought the game must call the larger floor rugs something else. I ended up just using the creation kit to move the rug that was there.
-
Can anyone give me the ID codes for animal skin rugs?
I've tried looking though a couple of excel spread sheets that different people have posted, not sure what the game calls them, or what category the come under.
Tired Alannaa's mod, but they are not in there, I haven't got the DLC's to use that other one.
My house wouldn't let me move the animal skin rug (sabre tiger I think) so I deleted it, thinking I could just drop a new one & move that.

Hold down the Ctrl key

Well if it's not in C:\Users\username\Documents\Games\Morrowind\Saves
Tell us what operating system you are using & looking for the save in, and the Full installation path to the morrowind directory.
And if you have the discs or Steam version of the game.
"would it have been saved in a .bsa file or something?" No.
-
If you installed the game in C:\ProgramFiles(x86).......
Then you'll find them in C:/Users/[yourname]/AppData/Local/VirtualStore/Program Files/Bethesda Softworks/Morrowind/Saves

I've had that happen when fighting greater bonewalkers, who can damage strength like nobody's business. :P
It was a Greater Bonewalker I had been fighting.
I started again to change my stats & am starting to get the hang of it.
Thankyou both for the replies.

I'm new to the game & are now stuck unable to move (encumbered)
because I have ended up with 0 strength & 4 endurance.
Where can I see what caused this?
Does it show somewhere if I have a disease?
How do I get it back?

I am level 9 btw and boy my spells do little damage.. Using destruction, illusion, restoration and conjuration. Wearing robes, no armour.
Thanks!
I'm playing a similar game, but without conjuration.
I'm on level 15 (Adept) and still only get through the tuff fights by doing a Jesse Owens until my magicka recovers.
I've taken enchanting, but I'm yet to create anything more powerful that what you get doing the mage college quests.
I thought I'd be doing it easier by now, the same mage with an occasional sword would romp it in.

So the icon showed up there, but wouldn't save. Or it couldn't find an icon in the exe?

Try the attached icon.

This is a small aesthetic problem, but ever since I stopped Steam's 1.2 patch in mid-patch and restored my entire game, the Skyrim icon in my start menu is the default .exe icon. Removing the icon and repinning Skyrim to my start menu has no effect. In my Steamapps/common/Skyrim folder, the restored .exe still has its icon.
Any help for this small, but irritating issue?
What Operating system?
Can you right click on the exe in the start menu & go to Properties & then change icon, then browse to the exe that has the icon.

You bring up another interesting point and again, going a bit off topic. I think there are a lot of older games that would do well for the younger generation if they were remade and brought up today's standards. I have to think that this could be a mini goldmine for some of the game producers. Yes, it would take a lot of time, but I would guess that it would pay off in the long run. I wonder if any of the game producers have ever thought of this. I just recently got Halo Anniversary and it is pretty good, I was genuinely surprised. Just a thought.
GOG seem to do pretty well out of this, although they don't update the old games.
I'm 51, & think you can make the game a difficult as you want by the way you choose to play.
Unfortunately you can't choose to have anything you do have an impact on the game.
-
Thanks for posting, I didn't have system restore enabled to get a backup from.
Nor did I have the Enchanting mod everyone is blaming.

HI everyone. I was over one of my other forums talking about this problem and one of the guys mentioned that today they installed a patch for Skyrim via Steam and that the patch itself might be causing my problem. I thought I'd post here too and see if other people have had the same problem, and to find out if it's possible to "un-install" this new patch. The problem I'm having is that when I click on my Items menu I can see all of my sections like Weapons, Apparel, food, etc., but I can only use items that are visible; I'm totally unable to scroll down using my up and down arrow keys. So, I can't get to all of my stuff AND most frustratingly I can't get to my torches, and with my eyesight I really need them in most places. So, there's my little issue. What bugs me is that it was fine until today and so I feel like it has to be connected to the patch......I just wish I'd had a choice about installing it instead of having it done automatically. :(
Anyway, thanks for being here and I'm looking forward to seeing what you guys might have to say.
Take care,
Tracy
You have to use your wasd keys, they disabled the arrows.

This is the only game I've bought that forced me to use Steam.
How do I turn off auto update?
I unticked every option in the settings.
Uninstalled Skyrim & then reinstalled from my disc, only to have it update with the broken patch as part of the installation.

Even without the editor, you can make things fun for yourself.
For example, I use console commands (OMG I AM A CHEATER)
This is my 3rd playthrough, and I am gonna make things hard by restricting myself to Frost Magic. There are a crazy amount of Frost Immunes and I plan on killing them with only Frost Atronachs's melee damage. I might fail but oh well, its fun! :D
If you think the game is too easy, do some challenges, like perhaps increase stamina only or "I will not loot enemies and make money soley off quests or by harvesting ingredients"
I am not a melee player because its boring, u just get up in their face and attack... so I don't know how to enhance your experience if you use a melee character but be creative!
That's what I'm doing.
I'm on my 4th character (although I only play until level 30 or so, were the default setting becomes too easy)
This time I'm playing a "battle" mage. No armor, buying nothing (other than a few lockpicks at the start) using only one handed weapons, spells, staves & potions I find.
No training or skill books, & no crafting & try to keep my level as low as possible. Killed Alduin last night on Level 8.
Even on adept it's a challenge, but I don't have to worry about what things they drop as I don't need the money.
