Game will not start

I went through and added some mods. I don't use any mod managers because I started modding without it and I wasn't too sure about how to switch over. Figured it was too late and didn't. I had the game running perfect (I boot using SKSE) but I just added some mods such as Uncapper, Perk Uncapper, Economics of Skyrim, Better Magic, the Carriages/Ships Fast Travel mod, and the Run For Your Lives set. Now, when I boot SKSE, the dragon symbol pops up but none of the menu options. It closes right after.

 

How do I go about diagnosing the problem?

Take care that software will change your load order... so you might have to manually correct a few things left or right after..

 

It will post logs for you under recognized and unrecognized plugins...

 

But from what I can see about what's happening - a CTD right before menu appears is genrally related to a missing master (a mod in your load order requires another mod loaded bfeore it, but this didnt happen)

 

I would strongly suggest to start using mod management tools... NMM or the likes will help a lot. You can savely switch over... just download it and download all the mods you have as well with it. Then install your mods again (you should know what you installed right?) and it will be able to manage all your mods that you had already installed from that point.

Alright, I went ahead and downloaded the BOSS installer and TES5Edit. I ran BOSS, it identified mods with dirty files (quite a few!) and then I used TES5 Edit to clean them as according to wiki instructions.

 

I ran BOSS again, no dirty files left, but I can't seem to start it again. BOSS rearranged my load list, too.

I hope you didn't clean Skyrim.esm? You should not clean that one ... I've so far only seen it cause problems...

 

But still, what does BOSS say? Can you post the log? CTD before menu is a missing master file... TES5Edit should also tell you, and yes BOSS rearrages the load order (BOSS = Better Oblivion Sorting Software .. sorts load orders based on user inputs)

I went ahead and reinstalled Skyrim and underwent the daunting task of reinstalling all 72 of my mods through the mod manager. Now that that's done, I went and ran BOSS for the first time. I have made no changes, so you'll be able to guide me through the process from here! :D
