Hoppyhead
I read a few Tutorials and been experaminting on making my own book covers for Pre War books but have not had any success. I put a texture on a boon and the cover i suposed to have a symbol on the cover. But instead the symbol wraps all the way around the book instead of staying on the cover. I am not sure how to get it working properly. I have all the needed tools like Gimp 2 and NifSkope as well as Blender.I have seen a lot of Mods with Retextured Covers anyone who is experienced with this kind of modding able to help?I would like to make my own book covers. prensa
Hoppyhead - Hello!"and been experaminting on making my own book covers for Pre War books but have not had any success."Books are a great place to start learning retexturing & working with Nifskope as they are pretty simple forms. It's where I started & learned most of what I know about models & retexturing."But instead the symbol wraps all the way around the book instead of staying on the cover."Sounds like you've misplaced the texture.Textures are placed on meshes by a UV map, the UV map can be adjusted in Nifskope but it's easiest to simply follow the original texture's layout.Get the original texture for the book you're editing & follow how it's set up, place your front cover where the originals is etc..The original book textures are quite small so you may want to blow it up if you're wanting more detail. Just remember to always keep within the proper sizing format like 256 x 256, 512 x 512, 1024 x 1024, 2048 x 2048 etc. Otherwise the texture won't appear on the model. If you do need to edit the UV, open the book in Nifskope & right click on the model in the Render window. Select "Texture" - "Edit UV".You will now see a seperate window of the meshe's texture, there will be white outlines around the book's cover. This is the guide for how the texture is wrapped around the book.By left clicking & lassoing the points where lines meet you can select them & move the lines about if needed. The right mouse button opens an option window where you can select connected lines, select all, rotate or resize & other options. With these you can quickly learn to fine tune & even drastically change the UV to your needs. As I said, stick to the original layout at first then as you get accustomed to manipulating the UV you can start to play around more.I've made quite a few books now & even made different thicknesses & sizes. There's a few I made in the background of the picture I took for my Speedloader Glitch Fix (ignore the speedloader  ):http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/images/18726-2-1361813310.jpgHope this helps!Prensa Edited May 25, 2013 by prensa
