Two question

This may seem silly but I am new to this stuff:What is the difference between textures and meshes?

 

Also If I make an item and use a texture or mesh from a static item will that cause problems?

Like for example if I make a large axe and use the things from the giant axe in Hrothmund's Bane will it work?

Or make a very large dwarven cog with the things from the very big metal cogs you see in ruins?
