hello there :)

problem is easily described:

whenever i exit sewers (the first ones) oblivion crashes.

its a fresh oblivion install with loads of mods.

my pc is p4 3000mhz, 2gb ddr2 ram, 9600gt, winxp sp3 etc.

i set everything on max (with an intention to lower it a little later incase it lags too much) at 1024x768 resolution.

i really doubt pc is the problem since i ran the game ages ago with same stuff.. but different mods.

what did i do?

1. install the game.

2. install knights expansion.

3. official and unofficial patches.

4. oblivion optimization thing, mods.

5. activated them in mod manager, put deadly reflex at the end.

6. launch the game with obse.

error message: http://www.ipix.lt/desc/48968935/

mm load order screenie 1: http://www.ipix.lt/desc/14534124/

mm load order screenie 2: http://www.ipix.lt/desc/22155215/

if there is any other info i could give then ask away.

any help would be appreciated.

Hello. I'm not on forums much anymore due to health reasons; however, your post caught my attention, because you're experiencing a problem common to those who mod Oblivion with a lot of mods.

Your Load Order needs to be set up so that the critical mods will be loaded in correctly. You need to use two load-ordering utilities to fix this problem: "FCOM Helper", then "OBMM" (Oblivion Mod Manager).

The first utility will correctly load-order all of the critical mods you have chosen. It will place mods it does not recognize at the bottom of the order. Running the second utility will update an Oblivion hidden file that deals with load-order: OBMM will rewrite it with the FCOM Helper load-order.

Here is a link to a Tech Support reply I gave a while back. It has links for you to download what you need. Not everything in the topic will be pertinent to your problem, but some of it should help you.

One thing you may want to make note of: If you load in a bunch of major mods for Oblivion, you need to make sure that only one mod changes a location or an item in the game. Otherwise, you'll have problems.

ye, thats pretty obvious, however conflict report wasnt really clear and the only thing that stood out was better watter/ natural water. i deactivated one of them and lol - black screen is still there.

ill try the fcom utility and see how it goes.

Start by disabling some of the more problematic mods - those known to conflict with many others

Francescos, Deadly reflex, xul mods.

If that doesn't work , disable even more until it does work.

Then after you get it to work, add them back and test the game one mod at a time until you find the one that causes the crash.

FCOM Helper is now known as BOSS, look for it by that name to get the newest version. It changes almost weekly to add more mods to the list.

General Load-Order Guidelines

Here are the guidelines that I adhere to, personally.

~ Unofficial Oblivon Patch should always be first on the list. The fixes are great, but most aren't essential, so if a mod overwrites them its not a big deal, and the fixes have the potential for screwing up other mods if loaded later.

~ Offical Content (DLC's) should be loaded last, until you complete all quests associated with them (that includes buying all furniture for the houses and whatnot). Once they're complete, they can be safely moved up in the list. This is especially important for Knights of the Nine, which will have some fairly major problems unless loaded last (unless you get the UOP for KotN)

~ Major overhaul mods (OOO, Frans, MMM) should be loaded near the end. That gives you the most complete experience with any of those particular mods. It also lets you carefully choose which other mods to load afterwards... only move mods that you know will conflict and that you want the changes from. For example, I have Improved Soul Gems below OOO because I know that OOO changes the icons of some of the SG's, and ISG needs to be below to show through.

Some people will recommend putting larger mods first, but personally I disagree. There are a number of mods out there that make minor tweaks, and loading after a large mod will end up completely overwriting a chunk from one of the bigger mods because of the way conflicts work in Oblivion (even one minor change will take precedence over the entire record... for example, simply tweaking the speed of a weapon can cause every stat of that weapon to be retained to vanilla levels if loaded later).

So basically, it stacks up like this...

Oblivion.esm

Unofficial Oblivion Patch

<Minor Mods / DLC's (Post-Completion)>

<Major Overhaul Mod/Mods>

<Mods that specifically conflict with overhauls and need to take precedence>

<DLC's (Pre-Completion)>

Expanded Load-Order Guidelines

by dev_akm

I would extend this to include:

Oblivion.esm

Unofficial Oblivion Patch

<Weather/Environment/Sound Mods>

<Minor Mods/New Items/Houses/DLC's (Post-Completion)>

<Major Overhaul Mods>

<Mods that specifically conflict with overhauls and need to take precedence>

<DLC's (Pre-Completion)>

<Quests>

<Compatibility Patches/UOMP/Merged Leveled Lists>

And a special-case warning for Knights.esp (Knights of the Nine) -- you may not be able to move it earlier than some other mods (some people have had problems after moving it before OOO, for example).

That's basically the structure I use and I have 140+ mods working well together.

Another way of describing this (posted by DMan77):

....

Oblivion

unoffical patch

Deeper realism mods that add sights and sounds

added content like weapons/items

gameplay changes, like 'must eat and sleep'

The OOO type

the 'new begining' type mod..

ok so ran that appllication, but it didnt change much actually.

the black screen crash problem still persists :|

Are you running a nVidia GPU older than the 8-Series (i.e., 7 or older)? If you are, then there are some Meshes files that are telling your GPU to perform functions it cannot do - which results in a black screen.

Tip from Kivan (author of Unofficial Patches): Delete all of the files labeled "Cobweb.nif" in the "C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data\Meshes\Dungeons\Misc" folder.

Those "Cobweb.nif" files are written for nVidia 8-Series and newer GPUs. Deleting these files will not cause any problems for Oblivion, but it will eliminate some black screen problems with older GPUs.

**Note**: nVidia released two Graphics Driver Versions in very quick succession in January. The current Version for 32-bit XP is 181.22 (which quickly replaced 181.20).
