Mods by moho25 gone due to Legendary Edition concerns!

Hi, I am new here and planning to install some mods for the first time in my next playthrough of the ME trilogy (not planning to get Legendary Edition anytime soon).

While checking out some mods I may install for ME3, I noticed one of the popular ones, "Urz on the Normandy" by moho25 (aka Giftfish), is now unavailable as of May 14th.

moho25 says she has taken down all her mods and is stepping away from modding due to infringement concerns regarding Legendary Edition. From what I understand, mods for it will have to be made from the ground up, and there are basically no protections in place for the original mod creators against plagarism (moho25's post can be found here: https://thanemod.wordpress.com/ ).

This has me panicked that other modders may follow suit (and I wouldnt blame them, as upset as I would be). I plan to download all the mods I want asap just in case. Is anyone else worried about this? Am I overreacting?

If I knew this was going to happen, I wish Legendary Edition had never been released. I dont want years of hard work by passionate fans to be thrown out the window just because EA/BioWare wanted some more cash to make up for their recent failures.

I would say download all the mods you want for the trilogy now, just because it's good to have them ready. But I wouldn't be too worried about anyone else leaving right now. The community is pretty dedicated.

All of Giftfish's (moho25's) mods were either massive and unbelievable feats of work, or even straight up essential for any playthrough of Mass Effect 2 and 3, so I do sincerely hope she eventually changes her mind and returns. I'm very saddened by this unexpected development, but I understand her reasoning, and I do believe her concerns are valid.

All I can say is, if she sees this, I want her to know that her mods were some of the most brilliant mods I've ever used, and I've experienced a great deal more enjoyment out of this series than I ever thought possible, thanks in no small part to her. If anything, I hope she remembers the impact she's had on people and their enjoyment of this wonderful series and takes that knowledge with her moving forward in life.

Gotcha, I will download the ones I want then. Thank you for the response! I agree, I hope someday she changes her mind too and returns. There are still fans out there (including longtime ones like me) that are just getting their feet wet with mods. I am disappointed we will now be missing out on some of the best/most essential, =( Edited by wardencmdrN7

  • 2 years later...

I'm surprised about the ME3Recalibrated mod - I thought it was created by multiple modders to act as a Mass Effect 3's unofficial patch, how come it got removed as well? Dissapointing.

To be honest from what i heard, while moho25 (aka Giftfish) is very talented on the technical side but she has caused nothing but problems for the community. Her gatekeeping, while she was in charge in the community, and elitist attitude towards newcomers basically caused the community to wither away until others restored it. She flat out refuses patches with other modders, for the most part, and also refuses patches with mods she disagrees with. That's why there were no patches between her mods and Same Gender Romance for example. She's also very territorial about ideas. To her, if someone has an idea first, no one else can implement a similar idea because it is copyrighted. She got annoyed that someone had the same idea about having a Drell bodyguard for Project Variety and asked them to remove it because she had the idea first. This is why she removed her mods. She wants to have control over how ideas are implemented and when Nexus disagreed she did not take that well. I mean if it were up to me, i would gladly share my mods and ideas without resorting to being a drama Queen and that's called Creative freedom.
