fortune1217
Every time I enable archive invalidation the game crashes, this is on all versions of the game. I uninstalled and it still crashes just because invalidateolderfiles=1. So I'm pretty pissed that I know reinstalled for nothing, just to find out this was the problem, now all my mods are screwed up...ugh...and now I can't use 1/2 my retextures...fix? Anyone? Thanks in advance!!!!!!!

buddah
try using archive invalidation invalidated: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=944 It places a dummy bsa file in your data folder, making archive invalidation unnecessary. Works for many thousands of users. Buddah
SecretStash
ArchiveInvalidationInvalidated will likely allow you to run your game, but typically the cause of such a crash is that there is an error in some file-replacement or a mod conflict. A.I.I. may get you into the game, but don't be surprised when you find missing or miscolored textures, or some sort of other errors or crashes. I know that depending on how many you're using it can be a pain in the A, but go through each mod and double-check the readme's to verify that all files are in the right place. Typically mod's creators will try to include detailed installation instructions to help prevent people having errors just like these.

fortune1217
yeah no mods means my game crashes, the only difference is the game crashes at startup rather than after save game loading screen/new game load screen...*sighs* I need new textures, modders make such better ones than bethesda... SecretStash
Sounds like there may be something leftover from a mod hiding somewhere (assuming a fresh vanilla works fine on your machine). Be sure to remove all non-vanilla textures/meshes/sounds/etc. that you've added even if you've deleted the mod that uses them. Another thing to try, though I am uncertain if this will do anything, is to make your Fallout.ini vanilla again by resetting all changed variables back to the original setting (i.e.: bInvalidateolderfiles=0 or bLoadFaceGenHeadEGTFiles=0) I think that if your game folder is vanilla again (you have nothing non-vanilla that you've added to it), then the problem lies in the fallout3 folder in the 'My Documents' path (where your INI is). Something has to have an incorrect setting or instruction, whether it's the INI or CFG I don't know. Also, I haven't had to re-install, so I'm not sure what FO3 leaves behind or does/doesn't rewrite over when reinstalling.
fortune1217
I managed to remove all my mods, turns out I was deleting the music folder as well as all the other mods, and I guess my game needs that folder the bsa is not good enough, w/e. I reinstalled every mod and the Invalidateolderfiles does in fact equal 1. Tyvm for the help. Much obliged!
