Animation
All, I just started playing Fallout 3 last night. I love it so far, but I am having a hard time finding much Ammo for my pistols and assault rifle. At first, Moira had a little, but she never restocked. She also doesnt seem to restock on Caps so I can sell her stuff, even if I sleep a whole day. But the Ammo issue is ridiculous. I'm down to my last clip for each weapon type. I can make slight gains fighting raiders, because they usually carry 5-10 rounds, and I usually shoot 2-7 at each one. However, they often carry ammo for stuff I dont have, and sometimes animals attacks and I get no returns there. After a few more fights, I'm going to be totally out. I'm only level 3 and I'm still in the Megaton area. Help? Suggestions? Thanks
Sarpedon
The best way to get assault rifle ammo is to go to Fort Independence and trade for them. They have unlimited quantities provided you bring them the stuff they want. Also, go to a few different towns. Get your house in Megaton, and keep samples of each kind of gun there. If you run low on one kind of ammunition, drop off the gun at home, pick up a different one, and go with that one for a while.

xm20k
You really have to just mange your ammo till you get a few damage perks and skills bumped up them ammo isn't so bad. Remember The better condition your weapons the more damage they do the less ammo you use. The better your weapons skill the less you miss the less ammo you use. The better your barter skill the less you pay for ammo.Don't try to kill anything with a shotgun unless it's within 20 feet, farther is a waste of ammo and shotshells are 3 caps each early on.Vats works well at close to mid range but sucks with a sniper till you get high in the skill points and a few vats perks, aiming manualy with a scoped rifle at distance and being patient is key to conserving sniper rounds. If you like using an auto you must maintain some trigger disapline, ie short controled bursts to minamize pumping valuable ammo into an already dead target. Try to crouch when you shoot it helps increase accuracy and you occasonaly can pull off a sneak attack for damage bonuses. Just a few things I try to do as much as possable early on to conserve ammo. I also never use my shotty unless in confined spaces and at very close range. By the time I got to level 10 I found myself carrying around about 2-3000 shot shells because of it. Almost forgot, it takes vendors 3 days to restock, so in the mean time explore outside of DC ruins and loot what you can to trade for caps and ammo.
