[WIP] Titan Power Armor

Working on some new armor now I worked out how to create working uniforms in fallout 3 from 3ds max : D I felt like the methods I used needed a real test to see if they actually work 100% of the time.

Here’s what I'm working on (very low poly), the smiley face is just a smiley face... to show where the head is when I've done the helmet.

I have to say it wouldnt be my first attempt : D, I've modelled quite a few things here and there, some of them have been sets of armor. This is probably my best result so far though, but that is possibly due to the fact that I didnt over complicate things right at the start.

I think the overall impression of the design is a little confusing. I mean it has potential, but there are some parts I don't think are well integrated with each other. On one hand it has elements resembling feudal Japanese splint armour (ie. the layered plating) which allow greater mobility and speed than tight fitting, heavy armour plates, and on the other it looks quite Western with the almost "Soviet-like" bulky upper body, arms and legs (I think Tesla troopers from Red Alert 2) and a helmet that looks a bit little like the Mjolnir armour helmet from Halo.

It's not that it isn't a cool idea or that the different style elements aren't compatible, I'd just like to see a bit more consideration into the overall direction of the design - I think having some bits bulky and some bits looking a little flimsy weakens the design, where a more uniform approach could make it look a lot more coherent and "oommph, this will rip my head off". For instance, the model has a very bulky chest but in comparison the shoulders look quite small and "meh", wheras if the shoulders and chest were more uniform in bulk, you'd think more along the lines of "Oh snap!".

Also consider how one would move in the armour. I find it a little difficult to tell how the armour on the hips and the thighs are aligned, but it looks a little like the thigh plate would get caught on the edge of the plates suspended from the hips, which would hamper one's movement when running or kneeling. I'm not entirely sure what's going on at the midsection either with the various blocks arrayed there, but in my imagination, if you were trying to bend your upper body, the blocks would prevent that movement, as it doesn't look like there is enough room for the upper body cuirass to slider over or under them. Of course if the midsection isn't supposed to be rigid, but rather a material like rubber, it wouldn't hamper movement in the same degree as if they are solids. The groin protector also seems to have a somewhat unlucky shape, as it looks a bit like it would dig into the thigh and groin if one were to sit down with it on.

This is of course just my personal opinion and what I'd work a bit on if it was my model and design. I figure if you weren't looking for constructive criticism, you wouldn't have made a thread with your work.

Thanks for the crits, the points you made help point out design flaws. I had a play around with the models design to see what I could to to make it have more bulk my attempt certainly fixed some of my problems with it. I love how the shoulder pads look now.

I'm considering getting rid of those panels on the side all together, just to see what it looks like. I also altered the groin plate after I created this image made it lower and more curved.

Reading through more of what you said to find other places to improve on.
