brujah665
***I don't know if there is a similar post. If there is please excuse my blindness*** Ok... I think that's a problem that many people have. If not well ok let's make a start. First let's see my rig specs:OS: Windows XP SP3CPU: Intel CORE Duo Q8400 s775/3,00GhzM/B: ASUS Striker 2 Formula (With the needed BiOS update installed...the owners of the same M/B will know what i'm talking about)RAM: DDR2 Corsair 4GB KitGPU: ASUS GTX260 896MB 180.48 (I'm not moving to the 181.20 friggin deathtrap drivers, they are known for the crashes on fallout)Monitor: TFT 22" Samsung SM-2232BW (just mentioning it because i use 1680x1050 resolution)(The rig is not overclocked) Let's start with the problem... At first when i bought and installed fallout 3 everything was perfect. All settings almost fulled and the game runned smoothly. Then the fisrt patch came out.Updated the game to 1.0.0.15 version. All was ok with the patch on.Next patch 1.1.0.35. Updated again the game and didn't have any problems at the begging.( some ppl mentioned frequent crashes but i didn't experience any of them)After that i started installing mods and the Super-Awesome DLC O:Anchorage( ). But after installing about 20 mods plus a custom race (Dimonized:http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1647 anyway...) i suddenly encountered some strange texture problems: For example in the face of my char. There were hand textures! She looked like a ghoul really. Or, some other world objects change colors to a fancy blue or pink color.(will upload photos to help you understand what i'm talking about).Usually occurs every 30 minutes; i'm not sure. After 5 mins the game freezes and the infamous Blue sceen of death shows itself complaining about nv4_disp.dll. I was like : AWESOME!And this ALWAYS happen from now on. :wallbash: I run the game through fallout mod manager with archive invalidation invalidated! activated At fisrt i suspected that it has to do with the gpu and maybe some overheating... But it makes no sense! Something else is going on. The rig is more then enough to run the game... After all this problems occured only recently. I saw in a forum a possible solution: reinstall the FO3 and patch to 1.1.0.35 directly because the two patches don't get along well together. What i'm going to do is to reinstall fallout and patch it directly to 1.1.0.35. hope it will work.Although i want your opinion guys. So you can help me and other ppl with the same problem. TheOutlander
1. My first guess is that it's "archive invalidation invalidated!", I'm assuming you are using the Program Version? My suggestion would be to remove it and replace it with the manual version (which is what I use). http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=944 2. Second have you tried turning off all your mods and seeing if the problem is still there (if it's not you'll need to turn your mods on one by one until it happens again, and you'll know which mod if any is causing it)? 3. Third make sure the Fallout3.esm is loading before all your other files. 4. If you've copied the DLC files from the XLive folder to your Data folder instead of just moving it, you'll need to delete the DLC files in the XLive folder (just copying causes Fallout 3 to load it twice thus confusing itself). Yeah i think i should try running the game w/o the archive invalidation invalidated! or at least with the manual version you mentioned.I will tell you the results soon. Thanks for your response. brujah665
Don't now what to say... tried everything even running without mods at all.Maybe something corrupted very deep in the game or even in the system. I don't know.I haven't tried yet to remove completly the archive invalidate invalidated! but i'm expecting the same problems...I'm to tired to even give another 5 minutes to find out what the hell is going on.Whatever i guess only a format can do a proper work. Oh wait! with the luck i have not even that will save me. anyways, i will go back to the other games i used to play and when i will have the courage to format the pc or at least find a quicker and painless solution no fallout for me :'(Thanks for the help again outlander. have some kudos because you cared to help me.cyaz

Googling nv4_disp.dll came up with a number of results, though this one seems to have a number of possible solutions (the easiest probably being the one in post number 9). http://www.daniweb.com/forums/thread18930.html This is probably an issue you should get resolved now rather than later as chances are you'll suffer it with other games as well sooner or later. brujah665
I am aware that after some tests i done that fallout is not responsible for the problems.Yesterday i got another blue screen [iRQL_NOT_EQUAL_OR_LESS] without running the fallout 3 at all. I was just using msnlivemessenger and i was visiting some webpages. So i've done some research on that new blue screen and i found out that the problem has to do with hardware ranging from RAM to CPU.After the reboot from the bluescreen i checked the temperatures from BiOS and found that the Northbridge(RAMslots/GPU) was 90oC.Although my other software temperature checking programs (Speedfan and another one) didn't found anything out of ordinary.I checked the link that Outlander provided concerning nv4_disp.dll so the i think that this must be a GPU failure taking in account the things i said about IRQL_NOT_EQUAL_OR_LESS.I will have some more things to test in my system i guess. Thanks again.
