Windows and RAM.

Recommended Posts

Use, not recognize. It won't recognize it being there, but it will attach the memory to its virtual pool via the paging mechanism.

First of all, how much do you have? If it's just 4GB, don't bother, 0.5GB is hardly worth the trouble.

If it's 6-8GB, you'll need to install a ramdrive program (like Vsuite free version - http://www.romexsoftware.com/en-us/vsuite-ramdisk/download.html), tell windows to place a paging file there, and disable all other paging files.

If it's more than 8GB, it gets a bit more complicated.

In the future, consider a 64-bit OS.

For the time being:

1. Download Primo Ramdisk Ultimate: http://www.romexsoftware.com/en-us/primo-ramdisk/download.html

2. Enable Invisible Memory (lower left corner), no hibernation support

3. Create a 12,200 MB ramdisk V:, using Direct IO, no image

4. Open Computer->Properties->Advanced->Performance (settings button)->Advanced->Virtual memory (change button)

5. For all drives, select "no paging file".

6. For drive V:, type in 12000-12000 as custom size.

This will only work for a month, but this is the highest-performing ramdisk option out there.

After a month, you can switch to this:

Or do it right away, not as fast as Primo, but it's a free one with no time limit. Very little difference in how things are done. Their guide has pictures to boot.

all on this thread

You would think gamers here, of all the people in the world would break game engines, take the games to their limits, and beyond, use memory hacks, FOSE, FNSE,SKSE and so on, breaking open the locks on games programs, and using extended ram unlocks on every thing but whats needed? huh? well heck, I see no mention of the breakthroughs that have been out for some time.

In the testing of intense graphics, programers are not going to wait on industries manufactures to open up the equipment drivers. we have today smart people that use the systems locks to unlock the hardware, what good is 64gig's of ram if you can not use it in a x86 program?

ini tweaks, old windows accelerating programs , windows tweaks are all old school things, ram is no different. x86 will never go away, your stuck with it. APU's and new GPU systems taking over, you think for 1 moment , engineers are going to strap on limits? CUDA, TESLA?

Get real.
