Borderlands 2 says it needs epic client running

I installed vortex recently and tried running borderlands 2. I think I downloaded the extra file properly - it says it installed it anyway.

It (vortex) couldn't find borderlands 2 without assistance - I think I've pointed it to the right directory.

 

Whenever I try to run it it comes up with the borderlands 2 splash screen and then says it can't run as it needs the epic client running. But it is running - I can start borderlands 2 normally without issue.
