LibertyBull
I'm making this thread cause I personally wanted to try out a ninja-like character for this playthrough. I have found a few things get in the way: 1. Most enemies have ranged weapons, and alot of engagements are outdoors. These enemies alot fo times come in groups of 3 or more. This makes melee a bad choice. 2. Even if you can sneak up on an enemy and slice his head off, all of his buddies notice and come running, starting a fight its hard for you to win. 3. Theres not really any vanilla "ninja like" skins or weaponry. This thread is my attempt to help you all out. Here are a few mods I'm using, and I must say its helping alot. So, I solved number 1 AND 2 by downloading "throwable daggers". If you can get past the fact you have to pull an inivisble pin before you throw the knife (this uses the throw grenade animation), then its usefull to have. These daggers do 13 damage, however it seems they have physics involved. If you hold left click before releasing, your character does a more powerfull throw, and if it hits the head, its a kill. Also, these knifes are completely silent, and so far using it has never gotten me detected.http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2671 Quick Tips: You make the knives at a work bench in your megaton/tenpenny house. You make 30 of them wih 1 combat knife and the work bench. Avoid using vats, as this isnt a gun, and it follows physics that vats doesnt get right. And, to end this longish post, here is some good things for number 3, cosmetics. I personally like using the leather armor with the wakizashi. Gives a proper look. It actually feels in place. Japanese Weapons (Needs the Commonwealth Of Modders, search "COMM")http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2814 There are probably more oriental blades. I just can't find them on the nexus. Also, if you wanna pursue a more canon aproach, use a chinese officer's sword. Also, if you want to pursue a martial arts styled ninjutsu practitionor, try the following clothing mods: "Gi of Discipline"http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2513 "Black Hood"http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1180 I don't know of any other skins that look good for a ninjutsu practitioner. If you do, PLEASE reply to this thread. This is a thread for other melee lovers to post thier own suggestions for ninja type warriors.
sumoftwosins
If you have the DLC - Operation Anchorage, the stealth suit is about as close to a ninja as you can get. I few mods should be coming out soon to take advantage of it. In the merc mod I am adding a ninja type class. The player will be able to utilize all of those things as well. With 100 sneak and melee + my stealth suit + my sword, will allow you to kill most things with ease so long as you effective sneak up on them. SangRahl
I was considering a melding of the 'Dash' mod and the Silent Running Perk. Rather than merely removing the negative to Sneak due to movement speed, also tack on a very minor speed boost (perhaps ~1.75x normal Sneaking movement speed) if you've been sneaking and hidden for 20+ seconds. (the [Hidden] prerequisite would not negate the effect if you are spotted while moving, but attacking while spotted or leaving sneaking-mode would) Having the long wait-time would mean that it would only be used when really preparing for the attack... and would negate the ability to just zip around, from target to target, while crouched, but in [Caution] or [DANGER] modes (however, if you were able to one-shot kill every target, you could move like the wind of death through them all, much like being able to clear an entire camp with Sniper sneak-attacks). I've looked over the coding used in the 'Dash' mod... but I'm unsure completely how to upgrade it with the new concept. To activate: 'Silent Running' Perk, Sneaking, [Hidden] for 20sec+Negates: Player attacks while no longer [Hidden] or stands up If anyone wants to see if this could be made, my future melee/unarmed assassin would be very grateful. SangRahl
I've dug in and tried creating a 'Stealth Dash' script... and though I can get it to activate how I'd like, there does not seem to be a method to adjust sneaking movement speed... or at least I can't seem to find it. cscottydont
the only way to modify player speed I've seen so far is through game settingswhich is really lame because I don't think you can affect those with scripts *edit*well, I just looked it up on the geck wiki and apparently there is a derived statistic "speedmult"http://geck.bethsoft.com/index.php/Stats_List it only mentions NPCs so I don't know if it works on PCs *edit2*I was looking through the base effects list and I don't think vanilla F3 came with an effect that changes speedmult but you can make one and play around with it"speedmult" is in the "valuemodifier" list I'd be interested in what you find out for future modding reference :P
