FOSE "lying" & crashing on startup

I did, gave me the same crash again.

If fose is still in your Fallout 3 directory and not removed, could you post the content of fose_loader.log? That may give some insights on why FOSE fails.

I've removed it, since it didn't seem like it's got any more purpose in there.. I could install it randomly again though and check it, then post it.. right?

Well, that sucks. I wanted to take a look at the log to see what exactly fails about the process of launching FO3, is it the exe or something else. I used the same process to make FOSE run under Wine in Linux, something rarely anyone was able to do.

Speaking of Wine, I have another suggestion if you want to try it out. Get a fake xlive.dll from FOMM or run GFWL Disabler and disable Games For Windows Live. FOSE used to fail in Wine because it couldn't run xlive.dll with an "unknown fallout version" error. If you do try it out and it fails, post the log.

I've got GfWL disabled all the time, so there's no way that could block it, right? I'm gonna put everything to my "old setup" and probably will attempt to download the RTS or something similiar to it, that won't need FOSE...

Actually, GFWL Disabler doesn't disable GFWL per se, it provides a fake xlive.dll that is loaded upon game startup that doesn't start GFWL at all. Without it, or if FOSE is incompatible with it, FOSE will fail to launch the game. Example from a Linux command line when FOSE is run with a missing xlive.dll:

werne@Ubuntu-12-04:~$ cd /home/werne/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/Fallout3/drive_c/Program\ Files/Bethesda\ Softworks/Fallout\ 3/ && wine fose_loader.exe
err:module:import_dll Library xlive.dll (which is needed by L"Z:\\home\\werne\\.PlayOnLinux\\wineprefix\\Fallout3\\drive_c\\Program Files\\Bethesda Softworks\\Fallout 3\\Fallout3.exe") not found
werne@Ubuntu-12-04:~/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/Fallout3/drive_c/Program Files/Bethesda Softworks/Fallout 3$ err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"Z:\\home\\werne\\.PlayOnLinux\\wineprefix\\Fallout3\\drive_c\\Program Files\\Bethesda Softworks\\Fallout 3\\Fallout3.exe" failed, status c0000135

And if an xlive.dll is not compatible with FOSE, you get problems. Unfortunately, Windows command line is not as precise as Linux's so this kind of debugging is possible only when ran through monitoring programs or in a controlled environment (sandbox).
