Catladyhobblestick
I need some help if you would be so kind.See, I've scoured over the internet, trying to find out why my console command is not working. So before you say I need to and "-enabledeveloperconsole" or, say "if it's Vista" Allow me to tell you everything I've done so far and what is happening. WHAT IS HAPPENING:My console command is not popping up.YES. I know you can't see what you are typing. I'm not even getting that. I try to open it (With "~", I know) but nothing happens. I can still move my character around, menus are popping up when their respectable keys are pressed, acting like the console is not enabled. My console command does not appear. At. All. WHAT I HAVE AS A SYSTEM, ECT.:-I run DA:O through Steam-I have windows 7 Premium-I have the Mod manager v1.9d WHAT I HAVE DONE SO FAR:-I have gone through Steam to DA:O properties/general/set launch options and typed in "-enabledeveloperconsole" without quotations.-I have launched DA:O through Mod manager by using the run option "Run Dragon Age with Console"-I have done these with both on at the same time-I have done these one at a time NOTE:The version I have is the Ultimate Edition, so editing the XML file will not work (I have also tried this before realizing it.) At one point when I was using a disc copy that my friend loaned me, the commands were able to be used on this computer. So it is possible. Please help. Thandal
Sorry you're having problems. Here's a couple of things to know: 1) Saying it worked when you had a different install (the disc version) is irrelevant. The Command Console will work on EVERY SINGLE PC INSTALL. Period. (Can't say that with such certainty about the Mac version, since I haven't ever had/used a Mac for DAO.) 2) Getting it to work with the Steam version is the most problematic, since Steam doesn't play nice with any user changes to a game's core files. That said, have you tried creating a desktop shortcut that points directly to "daorigins.exe" with the "-enabledeveloperconsole" switch added, and launching the game from that? As a complete alternative, you can install the EA/Origin Store version AT NO CHARGE as long as you registered your installation properly on the EA/BioWare site when you first got it. Be sure to have your CD-Key(s) handy, then: 0) Make a back-up of the "\Dragon Age" folders under your user profile ("\Characters", and any mods. Just in case...)1) Uninstall the Steam version.2) Log-on to the EA/Origin client with the same EA account as you used to register the game.3) Choose "Origin -> Redeem product code" from the top-line menu.4) Enter your CD-key.5) Download (all 24GB) and install DAO/UE.6) Follow the "standard" directions for using the Command Console.7) Profit! bleynarus
I don't know anything about the Steam version of the game, so sorry if you've tried everything I'm about to say. You could locate the daorigins.exe (I don't know its location when the game is installed through Steam), right-click it and select Properties. Then at the end of the field called Target, add the " -enabledeveloperconsole". If you can't find the daorigins.exe, search for it under the Start menu. I can't tell if you're trying to say that in Steam you don't have a keybindings.ini file. If you didn't mean that, maybe it would be worth changing the key that is used to open the console. You can do this with that file. It would never work with tilde for me. I think it has something to do with different keyboards. Locate the keybindings.ini file in Documents/Bioware/Dragon Age/Settings and open it. Find the line OpenConsole_0 and change what it says after the = to Keyboard::Button_F1 or something similar. This will mean that the console will be opened with F1 instead of tilde. Your keybindings.ini file may be located somewhere other than Documents/Bioware/Dragon Age/Settings in Steam. If so, I'm sorry that I can't help you more. Again, my profuse apologies if none of this applies to you because you run the game through Steam, or if you know all this and have tried it already. Just thought I'd tell you what I know on the off-chance that it might help you. :)
