IPS Driver error

What is going on here?

I'm frequently getting IPS driver errors.. accompanied by eventual MySQL database "too many connections" error (or something)..

It has been there in the past, but it is getting more and more frequent.

It is really frustrating. It's giving me a hard time download anything from this site.

Is it a hack-attack?

No it is heavy usage on the site, weekends are peak period for usage. There is a finite amount of resources...when they are at or over capacity the site slows down. The ISP errors are a time out caused by no connections being available.

Here is the rub, everyone that gets one sits an keeps hitting the refresh button or the link on the error....making more requests with each click getting more and more frustrated with each click. Opens more tabs making more requests, etc etc. If they used a little patience and waited a minute or two and tried again it would probably go.

But we are a society of instant gratification and have lost patience.

Mostly it's due to growing too fast. We have added a lot of new members since opening the FO3Nexus. Over three quarters of a million and still growing, And the servers are getting bogged down. :wallbash: Especially on weekends. We are working on it, but it takes time. Please bear with us. :thanks:

We do have paid premium accounts that help pay for the servers. However, the FO3 people seem to be even cheaper than the Oblivion members. Everyone wants something for free, and complain when they don't get it fast enough. :whistling:

Please have patience, we are working on it. - really

I'm glad to hear that nexus isn't targeted by some dumbass hackers. I've read somewhere that there has been some attempts to bring this site down.

Anyhow, keep the good work, admin ppl

.. and some of us are supporting this site by paying for premium accounts, and some are doing it by making stuff and uploading it here.

U need to fix that... Im member of one forum that has around 950k members and i never had problems like this...

If u cant pay, work on donations, gold accounts and stuff...

This is more than just a forum, it is also an integral part of 2 other sites (tesnexus and fallout3nexus) with a monthly bandwidth usage approaching 25 terabytes. With a hosted database exceeding 330 gigs of data for you downloading pleasure.

These sites are in symbiotic in nature, usage on the sites also affects the usage on the forums and as has been stated the resources of any site are finite in nature.

If we are not up to your standards, and are too inconvenient for you, you are welcomed and encouraged to go elsewhere.

To quote yourself "If u cant pay, work on donations, gold accounts and stuff..."

Care to become a premium member?

With the economy down, everyone is feeling the pinch....we understand this. The site feels it too, expansion of servers and bandwith costs are also going up. Advertisers are paying less for their ads, blah blah blah blah. You hear it everywhere, but we try not assail you with to many ads the sites major source of revenue......a little patience and understanding is what is needed.

We have to do the best within the abilities of the site to support itself. There is hope it will be resolved with tweaking the site, to streamline the page loads/views but the recoding is quite labor intensive and time consuming......may take some time to sort it all out, but hopefully we can come to a balance between user friendliness/functionality and reliability.

I was thinking about posting here that more efficient layout/design would lessen the stress on the servers, but that might be little bit out of line, in a sense "me telling you how to do your job".

FYI, I'm a web designer myself, so I would know a thing or two about those thingies.. and how labour-intense it usually is.

And, yes.. I don't care if you use more ads, intellitext or whatever to boost your income, although I don't think that 1 ad per page is unbearable for broad audience. IMO, you could squeeze in atleast 2 more without ppl complaining about "too many ads".

I suppose one problem is that the potential member base can only ultimately cap at all Elder Scrolls users, all FO3 users, and all future ES5 users. Which is an awful lot of people, especially as these games never die a natural death thanks (and it's a big thanks!) to the modding community.

Could be that more ads are the only way to finance future expansion, and I certainly wouldn't mind if a few more of these showed up on the pages if it helped speed things up (but pleeease not intellitxt -- that's a 24 carat PITA).

Just my 2 groats ;)
