Making a key to an existing door

I post here in hope someone could help me out :)

I have an existing custom house installed, but I would like to make it require a key. I tried googling but couldn't find any tutorial on how to do it. Considering I am pretty new to the creation kit, I thought I'd ask instead of messing things up :)

And if possible I'd like to put this key on a merchant so I can buy it from them.

Anyone who has experience with this and could help me out? :)

Go to the Cell containing your existing custom house installation and find the door. Clicking on the door should bring up some sort of dialog box with door's various properties. Searching through that menu should come up with some option you can tick along the lines of "Locked" or "Uses Key" or something like that (I can't remember off the top of my head). Next duplicate an existing key and give the duplicate a new name (whatever you want it to be). Now, double-click your new key and assign your house's door as the key's object reference/Linked Reference/ whatever it will be called in that menu. This will ensure that your key opens that door. Now, find Merchant you want to attach the key to. There should be a Keyword or linked FormList. Go to the linked FormList/Keyword with the same name and add your Key to that list.

I know that was a little vague, but I'm just not in front of the CK right now otherwise I'd be able to provide detailed step-by-step instructions. Let me know if you need more help though.

Hey babachele!

So far I manged to fix everything :) Only one thing remains and that is to make the key buyable from Elrindir (since it's a little cabin and he being the hunter. Seemed like the best choice;) I played the key in the drunken huntsman merchants chest, but it won't show up in his inventory. What am I missing?

I have now tried multiple things, but the key just won't show up in his inventory. I added it to the merchant chest and if I press priview list (which shows how the merchants inventory will look like) the key is there, but not in the game. I do not have any other mods that changes the vendors and I have the esp almost at the bottom of my load order + I tried resting in a home for 3 in game days, but still nothing. I can't figure out what I am missing.
