Toolset database issue on startup - SO MANY REINSTALLATIONS D:

I am at my wits' end with this and I'm so darn fed up with all these time-consuming reinstallations.

I'm posting here because I've tried everywhere else and still I've found no working solution, even on the Wiki. I'm hoping to God somebody here will be able to help me and if so, I would be eternally grateful. Seriously, I'm so tired of this. I just want to make pretty elves.

On my first installation of the toolset, I tried to install the SQL server 2005 as part of the built-in installer and the database creating part failed so I got the "unable to connect to database" fail message on startup of the toolset. Then I uninstalled SQL server 2005 fully using Revo uninstaller to remove leftover registry items etc, and reinstalled SQL server 2005 about 3 times, each time getting the database connection failure error. So I uninstalled it again and found a walkthrough on these forums which instructed me to get the 2008 version and service pack 1. (the post by nezroy, about half way down the page: http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/177587-toolset-help-required/) The guide then instructed me to fire up SQL Management Studio, which I didn't have. I don't know if the guide assumed it installed alongside the other programs, or what. But I didn't have it. So I installed it with much kerfuffling and difficulty, and started it up. I couldn't connect to the database in the Management Studio, and the toolset still won't start. Call me persistent as the number of times I have reinstalled each of these programs now due to them not working for some reason or another is just getting ludicrous now. If ANYBODY can get the toolset to work for me I would shower them in love and praise and thanks and niceness.

Additional info.:

OS: Windows 7, 32 bit

Logged into administrator account.

Logs in the SQL program folder thing say some stuff about stuff and numbers and words and then this at the end "2013-06-12 16:15:04.78 spid7s SQL Server is terminating in response to a 'stop' request from Service Control Manager. This is an informational message only. No user action is required." I don't know if this means anything to anyone.

Also, bear in mind my computer skills are tragic. I don't even know what SQL server does.

Many thanks.

Edit: I thought it would be relevant to mention that I once had toolset installed and working perfectly on this computer in the past. I did have to do some kerfuffling about with SQL servers and blah blah computer stuff, but it worked. Then I uninstalled Dragon Age and the toolset and now, about a year later, I'm trying to reinstall it.

The "latest" version of the Toolset is v1.01, and that was released over 3 years ago.

There's nothing more recent, and my contacts at BioWare indicate there won't ever be.

(Sorry DA2 modders... :( )

Installation issues are more likely related to the version of SQL ("SQL Lite", "SQL Runtime", whatever you call it) found on your machine. So presuming that the DA Toolset is the only reason you would have SQL on your machine, be sure to uninstall THAT as well when you're trying a full un-/re-install.

I've installed and used the Toolset on both Win7 and Win8, 64-bit rigs. The setup of the SQL DB took forEVer both times, with no indication that it was proceeding normally. (I thought the machine had locked-up the first time.)

That's all I got.

I am having the exact same issue. If I find a method that works I will let you know. I have tried about 7 different installation methods and have installed/uninstalled the toolset at least 20 times. I am very annoyed at this point but also very determined. If I figure it out I will gladly let you know!

Got the same PC as you, using a Steam installation, and I recently won the battle with the toolset, but I've already half-forgotten the work I did to pull it off (my mind blocking the torment to protect me, no doubt). What I do remember is that, like nezroy said, the SQL 2005 packaged with the Toolset utterly refused to work, and that I needed to install the 2005 Express version from Microsoft's site, along with SQL Server Management Studio Express, to even get started in the right direction. Then I used the Manual Database Installation page combined with sheer guesswork to handle the rest. No idea what's different about the 2008 version.

As for some of the things I still recall tripping me up, you absolutely cannot forget that when you install the server manually, you can't use the default database and server links in ConfigureToolset, all that has to be changed around to match the adjustments you make in SQL Studio. For example, my ConfigureToolset has this under Content Database: "Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;Initial Catalog=bw_dragonage_content;Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS" instead of the default string, and ".\SQLEXPRESS" for a server name instead of ":\BWDATOOLSET". Basically, change every instance of BWDATOOLSET you find. That little detail messed me up right until the very end.

Oh, and you have to make sure every relevant folder has permissions granted, even the empty ones, and that they're in the right places on your installation drive. For example, at the "Backup media" part of the Management Studio tweaking, things might end up pointing to a folder that doesn't exist in the default filepath it attempts to follow, so you have to create it yourself. In my case, I had to put it into Program Files; it kept trying to go into my C drive for no reason I understood.

Sorry, that's all I remember, and I'm not sure it even makes sense. May the Maker be with you.
