CTD - Need help please

Sorry to bug everyone here but I've basically become desperate to figure out what is going on with my Skyrim.

 

I had Skyrim since it came out and recently decided that I wanted the additional DLC (HearthFires and Dragonborn) since I had no problem with Dawnguard but now I get CTD almost all the time within minutes of game play.

 

I've tried varifying the game files. Deleting everything from Steam (including dealing all the information I had on my mods) and redownloading. I've cleaned every mod that Boss has instructed. Edited the Skyrim.ini file. Basically I've spent the last week trying to fix this and I'm about ready to just chuck the whole game and write a lovely email to Bethesda.

 

I've finally given up and accepted that I need help.

My computer isn't too fancy but I had no problem running Skyrim before but if it helps, here is the information.

Windows XP Home

AMD Athlon Duel Core (Apparently my computer doesn't know the model)

3.01Ghz, 3GB RAM

ATI Radeon HD 4600 (320SP 750MHz, 1GB DDR3 1.8GHz 128-bit)

While the papyrus log can occassionally yield useful information when bug tracking, it is not a 'crash log', so don't read it as such. Replace your mod list with a BOSS log (with the messages), including the list of plugins not recognized by BOSS if one is generated. Enclose them in spoiler tags so they won't clutter the screen.

 

Since you mentioned you edited the game ini file(s), post their contents as well, and enclose them in spoiler tags.

 

List any mod you have installed which does not come with plugins and would not show up in a BOSS log, for example, body or texture replacers.

 

Describe the CTDs in more detail. Are they reproducible or completely random? Mostly 'outdoors' in the worldspace or in interior cells? During combat, casting a spell, with followers, anything you have noticed that might suggest a 'pattern' to help narrow down on the cause.

I have the same problem, but I don't have any mods at all yet. Within 2-15min Skyrim will either crash to the desktop, no error message or anything; Or freeze with a Visual C++ Runtime error that won't come to the front when I Alt+Tab. This happened after I added all 3 DLCs, after completing the Soul Cairn mission.

I have the same problem, but I don't have any mods at all yet. I don't want to be rude, but you shouldn't hijack someone else's thread. Both of your issues have zero relation to each other.

 

For your issue, please reinstall the DirectX runtime library and verify your game files through Steam (right click Skyrim -> Preferences, you'll find it there under one of the tabs). If that doesn't help, open your own thread, and perhaps someone will be kind enough to assist you and figure out what the problem is. Also you are in the mod troubleshooting section... you should move over to the Skyrim troubleshooting section because you don't have any mods active you say.

@OP.... you have cleaned Skyrim.esm? I don't think that file should be cleaned, I seen people with problems many times after cleaning Skyrim.esm... Dirty edit or not, some dirty edits can be intentional.

As for why you get CTD after adding DB/HF DLC's, did you happen to have started a new game after adding them, after you have updated all your mods to support those DLC's? Was your game 100% stable before? I don't see anything really weird in your load order, but I don't know what might of been added/removed/changed after you got the DLC's.

 

As said, supply a bit more details, and please post those ini files of yours.

Yes, but runtime errors are a whole different story :smile: There's a million reasons why Skyrim CTD. I just say to open an own thread so people can keep track of things. Not that I'm not willing to help you (I certainly am) but if everyone keeps posting their issues in others thread it becomes a mess and people start following advises which might not be directed at them potentially screwing stuff up even more....

You can't add the DLC's through NMM, they're Steam exclusive.
