So..the beginning:

I went out and bought Fallout 3 at my local store, get home and install it.

Start it up with everything all set to run it.

Double click on Fallout 3 icon, loader starts. I get all the settings set up and press 'play'

it crashed.

do everything i possibly can..disabled vistas UAC, changed the settings and overclocked my GPU more.

i press play.

YAY it LOADS!

press the 'start new game' button, and..

It crashes.

****!

Go through the above again, change the settings..etc.

Woo! it works. Play through 101, all goes smoothly - until i get outside.

Crash.

Go through the above AGAIN

Play through to megaton, all goes well..until i go into the saloon. i go talk to the evil looking guy in the white suit and...

Crash.

*********** **** ************!!!1!!!111

Go through the above again, but i just CANNOT get it to work. I try about 30 times. literally.

So i go on a killing spree. i kill everyone except the little girl. EVERYONE.

woo! follow the yellow brick road the supermarket thing. No need for that useless town anymore!

all good and well..kill the raiders..etc.

try to walk past the fence away from megaton at the market and..

CRASH!

So now, here i am, not able to go any further towards the main..city..thing..whatever, except the now dead megaton and the now dead supermarket.

****.

Any suggestions?

Did you install the patch ?

Try lowest settings possible and do not use any mods ( if u do ). What are ur hardware settings ?

Yep - it's patched up.

No mods yet..ha, if it crashes this much with none, how do you think it'd go with mods?

Specs:

2.53ghz Intel Core 2 (45nm)

4gb 800hmz RAMs

2x 250gb 5400RPM HDD's

ATI Radeon HD 3670 mobile (clocked to desktop specs)

Vista Home Premium 32b

Fallout 3 is installed on the 'D' drive, IE the secondary one with all my crap on it.

UAC is disabled, and everything is set to run on Admin.

Settings i play with are:

1440x900

no AA

2x AF

High textures

medium everything else (shadows on low)

It's perfectly smooth with those settings, inside and out. Only get the slightest bit of lag in the wasteland.

Have had iTunes, Firefox, uTorrent..etc running in the background while playing and it doesn't effect Fallout at all, which means it's the GPU that's the slowest..not the rams, the cpu or the HDD's..

So why doesn't it like to load certain parts?

should i just wait for the next patch?

Download the latest DirectX 9c runtime from Microsoft and re-install it on your sys..this stopped the crash to desktop problem I was haveing. I have played it for 6 hrs now with NO problems..with mods installed. Have a nice day.

I'm running Vista DX10.

And my Dx9 and Dx10 are fully updated, as are my video card drivers and overall system drivers.

Well mine does crash alot too....and there are alot of other people that got the same problem....

I think we do have to wait for a patch ..... the engine is pretty unstable I heard, so we cant do much about that.... :(

Doesn't F3 run the EXACT same engine as Oblivion?

Oblivion is as stable as concrete compared to F3, and even Oblivion has it's bad parts where it will just crash for the hell of it.

Any more help guys?

i can't play F3 for more than 10 minutes at a time without having it crash.

Same problem here. Everytime I get near MT (At the very begining of the game after leaving the vault) it crashes to DT. It can't be the comp. I want to play it on PC but I am seriously debating using it as a coaster and buying the 360 version

Geforce GTX 260

Intel core i7 920

3 gigs of Ram
