Unable to save in GECK

hi there. I need to know why I can't save with GECK anymore, I changed rig and GECK opens ok and when I click Save after minor edits to an esp a message saying:

"MASTERFILE: unable to complete operation due to failure renaming temp file. Temp file: 'Data\tonibiatch.tes' contains saved data' ".

that tes file is saved in a pretty hidden User folder by the way ... so? ideas?? (plugin name is tonibiatch.esp btw)

thanks a lot on advance!!

I take this meaning a new PC? and you transferred the data from one drive to another or just installed the drive into the new pc?

In either event, you have UAC active, explorer settings set to hidden "active" and the game is installed in a protected directory so no, you won't be able to edit files this way.

the geck uses video card settings and drivers for the older machine, which I have to assume <----? is what you mean. run the games launcher first and reset the graphics setting for the game, reinstall the geck and re patch it to match.

Kitty. :ermm:

101VRanger - Hello!

""MASTERFILE: unable to complete operation due to failure renaming temp file. Temp file: 'Data\tonibiatch.tes' contains saved data' "."

That's saying GECK couldn't save your file so it made a backup that it saved elsewhere.

You should still have your mod's data in there, just need to rename it to:

tonibiatch.esp

Probably is a UAC issue as mentioned, try right clicking on GECK & "Run as Administrator" & see if that allows you to save properly.

Hope this helps!

@Purr4me

thank u. I've just set before reading this the geck exe to run as administrator and it worked, it's saving now ... finally ... :P

however, even though I can save now, the Data folder and all its contents are still keeping the Read Only attribute, even after I tell it before to disable it to Data and all its depending content ...

looks like it is removing the Read Only attribute when I told Windows 7 to, and then automatically set it again to all files within that folder ...

thanks for such a quick answer

EDIT: haha ha ... looks like u were just typing sametime in here Prensa ... thank u a lot to u too ... oh, so that tes file is an esp that can simply be renamed and placed in Data folder?? tes? why not just ... esx or esb as extension, won't be that easier to figure out the file function??
