Rain sounds indoors+on metal roofs etc

Hi,

As someone who only plays hardcore mode (who wouldn't?) and like to wander around and house myself in sheds / knackered houses etc, i've always been disapointed when it rains..which it does quite alot as i've set Nevada skies to do so!

Personally, i think the rain adds a mood that is unequalled (except in rad storms) with the thunder / lightning etc...however....

It would be so good if the rain didn't penetrate through metal roofs (im talking corrugated iron / caravans etc and other non solid houses / buildings and the sound of the rain could be heard distinctly on these surfaces when under them, or indeed inside a building.

Basically, i would like to sit in a caravan or under a worn shack roof and see the rain pooring outside and not in, and hear that distinct sound that you all know if you have a conservatory...i would also when entering a building like to hear it is raining outside (if indeed it is) when in the building.

Not sure if the roofs being protective of rain is an easy mod, but i would have thought the sound would be do-able..

Any thoughts?

Thanks

I'm afraid I don't have any idea on this part.

At some time in the future I want to do post apocalyptic weather; gamma storms, acid rain, rad storms etc. I did a bit of poking around to see how feasible it was, and I remember there is a GetIsCurrentWeather function.

For it to be realistic, you would need to make new disabled audio markers under each type of roof (tin, wood etc) and interior that you could hear rain on & from within. (it shouldn't be hard to find the PD audio samples) You would need to pair that with a quest script (set it for once a second) and a condition. If GetIsCurrentWeather returns a true condition == for rain id, the disabled audio marker would need be enabled and when the condition fails it would be disabled again.

You'd probably have to do some play testing to see if enabling/disabling 100's of audio markers causes a real hit on your average pc. If so, you could have some way to enable only the audio markers near the player to save resources. Maybe a mongo formlist of all the rain audiomarkers that can do a check against the player and a maximum distance. Save the enabled audio markers into a number of string vars and have those vars disabled when the condition fails. Although I think there was something funky about disabling/enabling a empty (0) var (can't remember for sure, but something like the script silently failin), so you might need a little bit of failsafe code to guard against it.
