Essoncletus
Okay, so I had to wipe skyrim off my comp because I wanted to try out some new mod's and decided to go about it by wiping everything out.Anyways I forgot about all the crazy work to tweaking and all the rest, did most of it and still having problems with it overclocking my comp, thus the feared and inevitable crash.I installed a new program called Razer Game booster and what does all this mean, someone please let me know and any questions or suggestions would be appreciated. FiftyTifty
This has been asked an awful lot lately. Good thing I've got this all prepared :D If you set the ugridstoload setting in the ini files to 3 (default is 5), you'll get a nice bump. If you disable the shadows inside the .ini files (You can download lighting mods that will compensate for the lack of shadows), a huge increase in your FPS will be assured. You may also want to reduce the size of your texture files. You'll need to unpack your "Skyrim - Textures.bsa" file, then run them through "Optimizer Textures". 'Tis a program you can download on the nexus. A defrag couldn't hurt. You may also see a performance boost if you make a ram disk of around 1-2GB, placing a .bsa file on there, make a "symlink" to the ram disk's .bsa file in the Data folder. You'll want to make sure you have a copy of the .bsa, due to Ram-disks emptying their contents whenever you restart/shut-down/hibernate/etc. your computer. You may also want to disable grass. You can do this in the .ini files I believe. Something like bshadergrass. If you can't find the setting, going into the console and typing "tg" will disable grass (type it again to re-enable it). Turning of NPC facial emotions may also help. The console command is "temo". If you download the fog mod (there is one kicking around on the Nexus), you could disable the landscape LOD for a performance boost by typing in the console "tlod". <==Not sure about that command. Could be different. If you type in the console "help LOD 1", it'll come up with a list of commands to do with the LOD. Look for something that will allow you to toggle the LOD. Also, since you have an NVidia card, if you get NVInspector and set the mipmaps to Performance/High Performance, you'll get a reasonable gain. You may want to look into HiAlgoBoost. Set the resolution as low as possible (You'll need to go into your .ini files). 640x480 Is about as low as any modern card can go (Though HiAlgo can dynamically lower it further than 640x480). Overclocking may interest you, but since you're on a laptop, I don't recommend doing so due to heat dissipation ineffectivity. If you still want to OC, MSI Afterburner will do the trick. Essoncletus
Hey, thanks for your help! I really appreciate it!Your recommendation on specs is taken into consideration already as I have suited up the Nvidia card through the inspector months ago and double checked to see if it matched up this time around, so nothing strange going on there.Hialgoboost I was also using before as well, so no need to worry about. Optimizing texutures isn't a mod I remember (just for the info I took a break for a few months but was playing steadily from November til early March, only ran into my first real problems around the same time I started modding and thankfully am not so gung ho on it, I keep things trim), turning down the grass is actually something I forgot about. As for lowering my resolution, I typically did fine on a 1280 with 1024 setting, though shadows were at lowest quality. Most of my problems came out of the TYC mod that I was foolish to download but I think my registry is fine now. It's only since I wiped it off my drive yesterday and reloading it up has this problem been occurring more frequently.
