Hi there dear Nexus-Community,

 

yes, this another of those "my game freezes, please help with my mod-setup"-threads. :P

I've been trying to get things to work since i had finished my first vanilla playthrough (back in early 2012 :confused: ).

I consider myself fairly experienced when it comes to mod troubleshooting but somehow i am trying to hard or am simply to blind to see some kind of incompatibility.

I stick to the common sense mod install routine:

- sorting load order with BOSS

- cleaning mods with TES5edit

- creating Bashed Patch with Wrye Bash

- using Reproccer for SkyRe

 

I always start a complete new game when i installed a major new mod.

Already tried to start a new game and install mods one after another, but somehow i'm still unable to get things stable.

Until my recent gfx card upgrade (780 gtx) i did use ENB's but due to the driver problem i dropped it, until nvidia delivers a compatible version.

My guess is an overload or conflict with scripts, maybe a problem with my custom race (chaosbarbarian.esp - selfmade).

But i also tried a vanilla race without any custom race still same effect.

 

I appreciate every kind of help i can get!!

I will see what i can snatch from those settings.

But to be honest, tinkering too much with the ini-files is probably just as bad as having a sh**load of mods. :D

A quick update,

unfortunately, further tweaking my skyrim ini's didn't solve anything.

 

I was able to load a earlier savegame near whiterun. I traveled on to whiterun, took part in the fight companions vs. giant and entered Whiterun. Did some crafting, obtained a few quests (mikael brawl), fetching the argonian ale.

But as soon as i entered Dragonsreach i got stuck in the loading screen again.

I was having the "infinite" loading screen problem a couple days ago while testing Open Cities-- I see you don't have Open Cities, but, what was causing it for me was tied back to the Static Mesh Improvement Mod. Deactivating that mod fixed it for me. :smile: Maybe you have a mod in there that doesn't play well with SMIM?

 

Do note, however, that beyond this I am a complete and utter novice and the screens and logs you posted are waaaay over my head. ^^; So I'm shooting blind.

Could you specify that a little more?

Did you find out what exactly was the problem with SMIM?

I read in some other threads, that a texture/mesh conflict could lead to a CTD/freeze.

Oh, pfft, I have no idea at ALL what the problem was. :sweat: Maybe Open Cities was just like "W A T" when it tried to load so many polys/textures. I really don't know, I'm so sorry. :\ Like I said, I'm a huuuge noob.

 

All I know is I read Arthmoor's readme and he mentioned that there were reports of SMIM being the cause of seemingly-infinite loading screens (as well as something about anti-z-something; I know you don't have Open Cities, but maybe the readme there might help you?) so I deactivated SMIM and it fixed it. That's all I know. :(

Ah, don't worry about being a noob, everybody starts somewhere.

 

I mean ... look at me, i've been trying to get this game running since release. :biggrin: (got 850+ hours on my account and only one playthrough >.< )

 

I always tried to find the error in some scripts or general mod incompatibilities. Maybe it's just a simple mesh-conflict/whatever. ^^

Known Issues

Extremely long loading screens that never seem to end (they take 10+ minutes to load) have been traced back to anti Z-fighting tweaks that have been provided by the STEP Guide. You will need to reverse these changes in order to resolve the problem. It may be possible to refine these to allow you to keep them, but I know nothing about what's being done so you'd need to ask for that advice on the STEP forum. Other reports have surfaced linking long load times to using the Static Mesh Improvement Mod in conjunction with Open Cities.

I don't think there is any incompatibility... really... (but I cannot see your full load list due to forum being buggy with spoilers) Open Cities, sure, causes problems with anything that places something in a city. But, this mainly causes a flat out CTD when you get near the city. I have been reading a lot and diagnosing what is happening during load screens... simply put, nothing happens to your VRAM, actually it's purged for the most part. The thing that does seem to happen is Skyrim (or DX9 for that matter) is loading everything into your RAM... when reaching the 4GB limit it crashes. You can see on performance monitor that RAM usage goes up, but it's not hitting 4GB, the problem is that the graph just shows your working memory, and the actual use can be much higher. You already noticing it that Skyrim tends to CTD when it only reached 3.2GB on a high RAM 64 bit system. DX9 puts a copy (compressed textures I suppose) into your RAM to deal with driver lost issues, or for instance, alt-tab-ing back to windows. It appears this space to counted towards the TESV.exe process, tho I am not very sure about it.

 

You can try and uninstall Skyrim HD (as simple test) to see if this is actually happening to you. If your infinite loadscreens are gone you might wanna have a look into optimizing textures or your ini files. Cant hurt to try but it's good to rule it out.

 

You say the load screens hangs are "random" so starting a new game, going through the same door - no issues this time (I guess) then after a few cell changes it suddenly hangs? Do you also experience sometimes that your save game wont open? You papyrus log indicates some problem with missing files in your save game, probably from an uninstalled mod ... or just a mod that likes to spam papyrus, as the author didn't disable the debug messages (if they are, dunno, author should know) :)

 

Btw, HighResTexture packs are still active, even if you disable them in your load order... those .esp files actually contain nothing besides a file header. Check if they are added in your skyrim ini files...
