BKarma
Hi, First off all, I like Oblivion a lot. Though Skyrim is a great game, I did not find it that much interesting, due to it's poor quest/story line (especially College of Winterhold Questline and Killing the Emperor part of DH). I did not Mod Oblivion before, except the Unofficial Oblivion Patch on the vanilla GOTY version of the game. Now I am stuck with load order problem. I am quite sure a lot of my mods conflict with each other. As only few of them are "green" in Wrye Bash (ver 303). I read that the UOP (3.4.3) should always be the first on the list, but I cannot put it before the Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul (1.33) as it says that .esp cannot go before the master files :/ Here's my load order: Active Mod Files: 00 Oblivion.esm 01 Oscuro's_Oblivion_Overhaul.esm [Version 1.33] 02 Harvest [Flora].esp [Version 3.0.0] 03 Unofficial Oblivion Patch.esp [Version 3.4.3] ----> Delinquent MASTER: Unofficial Oblivion Patch.esp 04 Harvest [Flora] - Shivering Isles.esp [Version 3.0.0] 05 Oscuro's_Oblivion_Overhaul.esp [Version 1.33] 06 UOP Vampire Aging & Face Fix.esp [Version 1.0.0] 07 UOPS Additional Changes.esp 08 Oblivion Vwalk.esp 09 Knights Vwalk.esp ----> Delinquent MASTER: Knights.esp 0A DLCShiveringIsles Vwalk DG_DS.esp ----> Delinquent MASTER: DLCShiveringIsles.esp 0B DLCShiveringIsles Vwalk.esp ----> Delinquent MASTER: DLCShiveringIsles.esp 0C OblivionMsg.esp 0D CapesandCloaks.esp 0E Extra Robe Pack.esp 0F Oblivion_Character_Overhaul.esp [Version 1.0] 10 Oblivion Citadel Door Fix.esp 11 Bashed Patch, 0.esp 12 OOO-Water_Weeds.esp [Version 1.33] 13 Living Economy.esp 14 Living Economy - Items.esp 15 Cutthroat Merchants.esp 16 DLCShiveringIsles.esp 17 Knights.esp I really want to try try the mods but I am sure they are not working properly due to a lot of conflicts. I also want to Install few other good mods, but they are large and will probably create even more problems. What should I do to avoid mod conflicts? I realize there is a lot of information but after reading a bunch of pages on Load order I am now even more confused. Can anybody explain? Should I re-install Oblivion/all the mods in any other order? Thanks
Oromish
Use wrye bash 302.1 or 304. Run your load order through BOSS. You won't need vampire aging fix, it is included in the bashed patch.I would also recommend Enhanced Economy over Living economy. This post here contains a lot of useful information.Read this, read the readmes for the mods carefully and have patience and it will all work out fine.Never be afraid of asking questions either here on the nexus or on bethsofts oblivion mod forums. As for putting UOP above OOO. You cannot put .esps above .esms, which is what you tried to do. Edited June 22, 2013 by Oromish
BKarma
Thanks Oromish I've reinstalled Oblivion (not in the x86 folder this time) and started with the UOP. Here's the load order: Active Mod Files: 00 Oblivion.esm 01 Unofficial Oblivion Patch.esp [Version 3.4.3] 02 UOP Vampire Aging & Face Fix.esp [Version 1.0.0] 03 UOPS Additional Changes.esp 04 Oblivion Citadel Door Fix.esp 05 OblivionMsg.esp 06 DLCShiveringIsles.esp 07 Knights.esp 08 Bashed Patch, 0.esp Is it how it is supposed to be? Or should I change anything here? There are no "red" or purple anything, but there are either green or black and OBMM still shows a lot of conflicts. This time I use Wrye Bash 302.1 as you suggested. Also, how do you change load order with BOSS? Thanks
Oromish
What mods are black? I assume you mean they are black in OBMM. OBMM's conflict manager is usually nothing you have to pay attention to, it won't give you much useful information. Wrye bash is what matters here. There is nothing in that new load order that conflicts. (Although, I am not familiar with OblivionMsg.esp).You are however missing the shivering isles Unofficial patch. You can still remove the Vampire aging fix as it is included in the bashed patch, and oblivion citadel door fix.esp is only required if you actually have problem with these. I've personally never run into this issue. But I suppose there's no harm in having it in there anyway. I would recommend that you try to only use OBMM for the mods that specifically requires obmm install (These are quite rare), it's not good for much else at this point, honestly. If there's anything that confuses you about Wrye bash, this might be useful. To change load order with boss, first make sure that wrye bash doesn't have a locked load order. (Right click on "files" in the mod tab and make sure "lock load order" is not checked). Then just run boss and it will sort them automatically. Look at the boss log afterwards to see if there are any specific mentions or errors. 90% of the time, boss is enough to solve whatever load order, unless a mod specifically tells you to place it elsewhere.I assume oblivion launches just fine at this point. (Check just to make sure). Now you can slowly start to add whatever mods you wish.Remember to always sort with boss AND rebuild the bashed patch after adding new mods. Good luck! BKarma
No some are black in Wrye, some are green though. I don't know what black in Wrye means but before the re-install there used to be some purple and red ones too, which I suppose are bigger errors, though I am not sure. OblivionMsg.esp Is a language file, because I am not using the English version of Oblivion, however, due to some mods a lot is now in English, which is okay heh. Here's my current load order: Active Mod Files: 00 Oblivion.esm 01 Unofficial Oblivion Patch.esp [Version 3.4.3] 02 UOPS Additional Changes.esp 03 Oblivion Citadel Door Fix.esp 04 OblivionMsg.esp 05 DLCShiveringIsles.esp 06 Knights.esp 07 Bashed Patch, 0.esp 08 Oblivion_Character_Overhaul.esp [Version 1.0] 09 CapesandCloaks.esp Not all are green though. Also, I did not yet install the Shivering Isles patch because it will be a while before I move to try out the DLC as I want to explore the initial game first since it's been a while since I played plus I want to install some mods first before I go deeper as I don't want to add more conflicts (with some mods it's a completely new experience hehe). What is the bashed patch anyways and how to rebuild it? Thanks for your help!
Oromish
So I don't misunderstand, you do mean the text is green/black/purple and not the checkbox icon, right? As shown in my list here?If so then it's fine, purple text usually means they're tagged with a "nomerge" tag, black text is normal and green text means they can be merged into the bashed patch completely. (and save you an esp slot).Click here for more information. I would recommend throwing Shivering Isles UOP in there from the get go, however. The UOPS is always the first thing one should install when modding. :3I completely agree, with mods oblivion is really fresh. I thought I'd never play it again, but with the latest mod setup I'm 120 hours in and it still feels pretty damn fresh and exciting. As for that load order, bashed patch should always be last. There are only a few exceptions. (Like Maskar's oblivion overhaul and Duke patricks mods.) The bashed patch is used to resolve many different conflicts and make mods that normally would not function well/at all work together. For example: Say we have two mods that both adds creatures to the same levelled lists, without the bashed patch the mod loaded last would overwrite the previous one and you'd only get creatures from that one. Bashed patch merges these and makes them both work, so you can get the content from both of them. But it does a lot more things than that. To rebuild this, all you have to do is right click it, and choose "rebuilt patch". See this guide for more information. In particular these two images: 1 & 2. But you should read most of the basic information anyway.Wrye bash is so automated these days that you usually don't have to change any of the settings in the bashed patch (Unless you're going for FCOM), and just click "build patch" without changing anything. Tamujiin
You need to find a guide, like RENS or something, if you havent done a full play through for oblivion while just adding a few mods here and there....... your gonna keep screwing it up. Cobl for instance, will have a RED lined ESP, with a RED CHECKBOX, wrye knows what it needs to do with that. When Blasting through the bash PATCH ( you MUST make one of these ) it "should" auto check most bashed patch siuggestions. ALL you need to do is make sure AFTER the patch NOTHING is any color except green. I had close to 400 mods on my last oblivion build. Everything worked like a charm.
