Tasheni
This is a big difference, isn't it? But there is more to it. Curators will decide which mods go into a collection or not. A preselection takes away the freedom of choice from the user. Mods will be splittet into valuable ones and less valuable ones. The lesser popular ones will vanish into nirvana. The most popular ones go into a collection. It's like the search engine from google: Google decides, which webpages you will see and which not, which search results you see and which not. This will split also mod authors into classes: The more successfull ones with a big audience and the lesser successful ones who have fewer downloads or endorsements (this is no measure how valuable a mod is). Collections are unfair to mod authors and mod users the same way because many mods will not be noticed anymore, the freedom of choice is taken away and the users will be some kind of incapacitated. The psychological aspekt of introducing collections this way should not be underestimated. We had that before: In the Minecraft comunity. This place will get a little bit colder now and feel less like home.
Lexmax
I'll probably get banned for saying it. But this move from nexusmods is an absolutely disgusting act of greed and powerplay. So very unnecessary and damaging.
