Fallout3 Goty issues with Windows 8 (please help have tried everything

Hey guys so as you can see from the title of my thread, I am having major issues running FO3 on my windows 8 (64bit) computer. I get the to title screen, and when I hit play the game crashes. So first, I guess I should tell you what I have tried,

1. I tried downloading the d3d9.dll file and placing it in the fallout 3 goty folder. At the same time I went and edited the codes in notebook in the configuration files. This lead to the launcher crashing before I could press play.

2. Someone said that it was a compatibility issue so I found a thread on here where someone listed a number of different files that you need to go in and adjust the compatibility settings for. This lead to the same initial problem of the launcher working but then the game crashing when I pressed play.

3. I tried getting the G4WL disabler. However when I would try to use that it would tell me that it could not see the .ini file it needed. I read online that the goty named it falloutpref and not fallout.ini so I went and renamed it that. I received the same error message.

4. I read also that if you download the Games for Windows Marketplace client then the game would run correctly. So i tried that, but the installation of the client kept failing. So then I find where you have to change the compatibility of the installer, because the client does not work on windows 8. However I still received the same error message. The message was one long code that I could not copy and paste.

I have been at this for a majority of the night, and I am ready to name my firstborn after whomever can help me fix this problem! I am calling it a night, and I will check back in on the thread in the morning. Any help at all would be GREATLY appreciated!

metro is permission dominant, you need to tel the operating system to lay off the programs, on 8/64, it's paramount you do this, then set up the graphics driers so the game will run in that tormentor.

DEP needs to be set up correctly, you need to have soul authority and control over where ever those files are installed at.

windows dep prevention, system advanced properties, DEP tab settings, set programs to allow other than what you select, select add, browse to the games executable, select it. set apply. I run 7, some one with Metro 8 that's windows 8 will have to guide you exactly as the windows schemes are slightly difernt. What I know is, that system needs to be configured to allow programs other than Tiles to run with your credentials, otherwise any programs you run will fault on you. it's a crappy system meant for modern tiling type of experience.

Microsoft is changing some of it now back to more user friendly system, but windows 8 is very hard to get to cooperate with old games.

Google search this Windows 8 DEP, and read, you will find out all you need to know. once you learn how it works, there is nothing you can't run on it. but, security is 10 fold of windows 7 and older systems. it's real tight on that one. do not run ENB on that system. you will blue screen and ruin the system. be very careful using any graphics altering software's on windows 8.

IF you have the geck installed or fose or fo3edit, these program place a dead log, fault log into the base directory of the game, please check and see of such a log exists, post it if it's not to big, we only need that last ten lines of it, not the whole thing.

  • fose_loader.log
  • EditorStackTrace.txt

Do you mean the configuration file that is under steam/steamapps/common/fallout3goty and is called Fallout_default? Or would it be the mydocuments/mygames/fallout3 and is called falloutprefs?

system specs

Intel Core i3 3.3ghz

8gb Ram

AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series

I wasnt sure what all you would need for system specs, is there anything else?

I wasn't sure what all you would need for system specs, is there anything else?

example: C:\Users\Practitioner\AppData\Local\Fallout3\Plugins.txt___________ Find that, open it, copy it's contents and paste them here.

NOTE: after going thru what you have already done, can you imagine ME typing out all of that here? Not hardly. all new comers are recognized now so I am doing things slowly so we get to know each others position.

The above specs. ummm. in my signature is a link to one Dll file for intell, and sense your running Win 8? I can bet that might help you, but? your not 32bit. just download it and drop it into the games directory. save the download don't delete it. but if the game still does not run. just delete the file so it does not load, we go another rout.
