evilkoal
is it possible to make capes out of the physicked tapestries, so that they will "flow in the wind" or move at all? loli know something of the sort is possible, because alienslof put out those wigs that were physicked; i just have no clue on how to go about doing that. ihateregisteringeverywhere
Short answer: No. Long answer: Noooooooo. The wigs and capes you might see here and there aren't physicked but rigged to unusual bones in unusual ways. Some mods use custom skeletons and animations for such things. Birrii
I think (I don't know, I think) that it is possible, because if you have those dance mods, how can they make the people move? I think it is possible to make the cape "move".
AzirAphale001
It is possible to make capes move, but would require totaly new animations.
Deleted269910User
The dance animations and animations in general are rigged to your skeleton, so if you wanted the capes to move in a similar way, you would have to bind(Merge would be a more appropriate term.) the cape into the skeleton itself and that is something, that without a doubt, would look ugly. Edit; You might be able to bind a special animation to a cape with a script, but it might not actually look very good as the animation would keep looping, regardless of whether you're moving or not. You might make make a script check that checks whether your character is moving or not and would trigger the cape animation that way, however it could get rather heavy depending on the way the scripting is done and how often the script checks are happening. It should be doable, but not a very exciting job. This would also mean that the capes that are used, would have to be included in the mod, or be bound to a specific equipment slot and even that would have lots of problems, like the animation being applied to all items that use that slot. Basically there is no idiot proof way of applying this, without making it look completely ugly. The only way to make it look relatively good is by rigging the capes to some specific bones on the body,(Mainly in the legs.) and that is already being done by some people. ihateregisteringeverywhere
By "some" people - namely LHammonds ;D. You're perfectly right, and the script method is viable, although I've only seen such methods being employed for weapons thus far. It's kind off clumsy though. Mostly because the cape animation would (usually) be out of sync with walking speed.
FallenSword
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16943 - isn't it an armor with cape which moves from left to right when standing, it moves when you run forward and backward also. evilkoal
so, although they can rig the hair to be physicked, they cant rig capes to be physicked? or i just didnt read it right... i could care less if it is rigged to some funny bone, as long as it is physicked. i think the best bone to rig it to would be the shoulder line thing, i just have no idea how to rig anything to anything.. Deleted269910User
Actually every object in Oblivion is static and doesn't move "naturally", observe the grass and you'll see that it's just the mesh waving from one side to the other. The only thing that comes even close to real physics is the water when you're running/swimming in it.(If my memory serves me right that is.) Everything else is static items rigged to another object and warped by movement.(Look at the legs while walking in a robe/dress, on a female.) If the capes were simply rigged to the bones on the shoulder but nothing else, they would clip horribly with your legs, unless the angle of the cape is changed and that isn't pretty either. The rigging needs to be done for every point in the cape that needs to morph and it can't be done by simply rigging it into one or two bones.(It's technically possible to do that, but the result would be either ugly or very ugly.) The only way to make the cape look even reasonably realistic is by binding the upper part into your shoulders/neck, mid part to the back of the torso and the bottom to some of the bones in the legs and/or to the tail bone, which gives the cape the ability to morph, but without making any large visible glitches. What you can't do however is make a cape with 100% realistic movements, due to the way the oblivion game engine works. In the future, it'll hopefully be possible, but currently only "morphs" can be done.
