Mod advice

Hello everyone,

I'm starting over from scratch, as I had to wipe my PC. I have done all of this before so i'm not totally clueless but it has been awhile. I just wanted to ask if some of the pros out there could give me a hand and suggest some of the best mods to-date along the lines that I will specify and of course, all of which do not conflict with each other.

My most important desires for mods are as followed (from 1. on most wanted to least).

1.New character creation tools to really alter the faces more than vanilla.

2.Duel wielding

3.New monsters and getting rid of/rebalancing the leveling of monsters (stopping it from following your levels).

4.New spells, weapons and outfits/armour (including levitating)

5.New areas and quests/adventures (including the Elswyr mod and I heard something about a Black Marsh something or other... but I'm not sure)

6.New races to play as

Graphics level of vanilla is fine for me, unless some mods require graphical updates. Please list your mod suggestions with confidence concerning non-conflicting compositions.

I know it is a tall order to ask for so many *grin*. Any help is appreciated and if the order of install/listing to put the mods in is known, that would be excellent as well. Thanks in advance and I love this community for even making this possible! Just to clarify one last time, I only wish for a list with the best (in your opinion) of each category that I requested. Not this, this and that for this. Only one for each, especially if they conflict. Two or more for areas are ok, but I seem to remember those conflicting quite a bit before...

P.S. I cannot seem to find the supplemental patch which used to come after the first unofficial patch... has something changed aout that..?

P.P.S. Ok, now I am completely confused.... i downloaded BOSS and everything is different from how I remember it... with passwords andturtle programs....what the heck.. so I tried Wrye Bash and I can't seem to get it...any tutorials....simple ones... for a simple program. I know modding is not simple...but why has it gotten so much more complex? I'm just so confused...

Dude, just look around the posts below, there are at least 2 posts on this topic.

Here are the mods I am riding with as I am starting again and over with Oblivion. Oh by the way use TesNexus for download and search for mods of your liking, the site makes it easy on you.

Tool Mods

Wrye Bash: I highly recommend it in order to manage the best way possible mods stability

Oblivion Mods Manager

Oblivion Script Extender

BOSS: don't understand what you are talking about...the mod is a google based mod once you've install the launcher, it's automatic and it works with both OBMM and Wrye Bash

Home Mod

Frostcrag Reborn: I play as a mage

Quest Mod

The Lost Spire: for me the best and most professional Quest Mod out there, more intresting than KotN if you ask me and a better crafted mod

Then for other quest mods I invite you to scroll down the Top mods of all time at TesNexus, you can't go wrong

Gameplay Mods

OOO v133

Deadly Reflex

Midas Magic

Sounds of Cyrodiil

WAC: Waalx Animals & Creatures, a pure beauty but you'll have to manage conflict with other Overhaul

Patch Mods

Unofficial Oblivion Patch

Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch

Unofficial Official Mods Patch (in case you have KotN, Frostcag, etc...)

Graphic Mods

Oblivion Character Overall: the npcs look so much better

Natural Environment

Animated Windows Lighting System & Chimney

Oblivion Graphic Extender

OBGE Liquid Water

Alluring Potion Bottles v3

Really AEVWD: if you have a powerful PC

Roberts Male Body Replacer v4 there are other version but this one seems the most compatible one.

OHH there are so many great mods for this game.

Try battlehorn castle, armory lab (underground lair you can acces outside all buyable houses in the game) or shadowcrest vineyard (make your own food and drink)

Weapon expansion pack for oblivion, new merchant items, tamrelic ingredients, morrowind ingredients,cm partners mod, slower levelling, summon oblivion gate (your own oblivion gate COOOL) or put your money in the bank with za bankmod.

For quests i recommend knights revelation : a huge new quest awaits you after KON is completed,Kvatch rebuild : rebuild kvatch from the ruins, adds a new city including an arena to fight in as well, The pirate isles : get your own pirate ship and discover a new island inhabited by pirates (remember to disable borders) or what about QOTW S 1+2 = quest of the week season 1 and 2 contains 20 mini quests each and i think there is about 15 more in single download mode.

last you could try Shezries Towns : adds 5 new towns which is pretty different from the other towns in the vanilla game.

oh by the way : using wrye bash is very simple, click on the installers tab and simply drag the archives into it, right click on the mod and choose install , click the mod tab and check it (you can also use OBSE with wrye )

HAVE FUN I DO

Ok, thanks guys. I was looking for a specific load order of your lists, but I appreciate the help nonetheless.

I realize there were other topics listing many mods, which is helpful, and I did read them but I was looking for something a bit more specific.

About BOSS, if you installed it, then you should remember that it requires you to use that turtle program and to get the password for it. No payment or anything and I puzzled my way through it, but it didn't used to be that way and I was momentarily confused. If you did it another way, then I'm happy for you but that was how the direction instructed me to do it.

I'm in the process of rebuilding it all now, so see you all....maybe never again, haha. Just kidding, only if I get it to work, right? Then I'll never see anyone ever again.

On a side note, does Wrye Bash work with OBMM? For instance, if I load a rar. into wrye bash, will it show up as installed if I open OBMM? Well....I suppose best thing to do is experiment and break everything. Don't see why it wouldnt work though. Thanks again.

Dude BOSS will set the load order for you. That the all idea of BOSS.

Dude change download site this turtle program is not part of BOSS just download BOSS from TesNexus.

Dude, Wrye Bash works independantly from OBMM. Both can work along side but they are independant software. Wrye Bash will pick up every mods aready installed through OBMM or manually. Im not sure if OBMM will pick mods installed through Wrye Bash.

Come back and let us know

Sorry but I have to ask, what "turtle program" are you referring too?

Hehe... sorry, wrong genus....TortoiseSVN is what it's called. The tutorial outlined that I needed it for BOSS or one of the other programs....tutorials are great but that is part of the problem here... I am sincerely trying to get back into wrye bash, but it seems more complicated than I remember and there are five hundred or so tutorials of all different dates, sorts and with contrasting information. I'm all outta sorts just trying to find an up-to-date tutorial or guide with working links and good information with the latest stable releases of each program for all these different modding things. I've downloaded and read quite a few now and I am nowhere nearer to being enlightened.

For instance...I followed one guide for wrye bash, which seemed to be ok, then it directs me to TES4Edit guide to clean the files. http://cs.elderscrolls.com/index.php?title=TES4Edit_Cleaning_Guide#Part_.233:_How_to_Clean Tells me to clean the files.... I followed the directions exactly to-the-letter, only cleaning the DLC packs that I have with no other mods installed....game wont even load now. After the clean install i'm getting a bit downhearted to be frank. I have been working at this for the last three days now and have yet to play at all.. haha. Not that that is unusual, but I still have no idea whats wrong or going on or getting any closer to success here...I have great aspirations, as I want some hundred mods installed, but first I have to get through the front door and it seems to have changed locations since I have last been here (last time I was modding my game, three years ago, I managed to get it up and running with upwards of fifty mods or so; Fcom, ElsywrA, the morrowind/vardenfall one, forgot the name....and many quest/object/race additions....). I know I am the one doing something wrong, but I don't know what to do or how to figure out what it is that I am doing wrong.

I did download it from TesNexus. I'm not sure what is wrong or is going on here.

Im not sure if OBMM will pick mods installed through Wrye Bash.

Dude, it will.

Yes, it seems they both recognize each other, which is what I thought and remembered, since they both monitor the same file and if the file changes then they would have to recognize it.

You should go pray to the statue of lady luck in Bravil.

First i would download one of the best free uninstalling programs Revouninstaller, make sure you do an advanced uninstall so that all the registry settings gets deleted.

Find a program to defrag your hard drive,I think advanced systemcare would be a good choice he he their tools are a bit fake but their defragmentation is good.

Before i go on i would like to know how your game crashes, does it freeze or crash to desktop,do you only get to the menu or do you get in-game, try right click oblivion exe choose properties choose compability and try the different compability modes namely the vista and xp ones, what kind of windows are you using,

I really need some more information on this, youll see a pc is sometimes very complicated and so many things can go wrong,

With this little information i would suggest deleting everything in advanced mode with revouninstaller, a defragmentation of the hard drive where the game was installed, update your graphic drivers, reinstall the game outside C: and try to run it completely vanilla style.

Hope youll get it to work ;D post again with a more detailed description of the problem and i would like to know your pcs system specs.
