satan22
Prepare for epic facepalm... So I have GECK set up and I can access all of the objects and such, etc, only I cant modify or even add anything. For example, I changed some values for the combat shotgun in the edit window, but nothing I do makes the mods "stick", so to speak. I have to close the window to save, and when I close, the modded values revert to normal, and so nothing was done. Then when I looked up how to copy weapons and other objects, I read that you have to change the form id, and the only way you can do that is to expand the edit window, but it doesn't give me the option. Really the only thing I'm looking to do at this point are simple weapon mods, but for some reason I'm not even capable of that. I've seen many different tutorials, but apparantly I've just seen all of the 'wrong' ones. Could someone lend a moron a hand?
SangRahl
1.) Check out any number of tutorials and FAQ pages here at fallout3nexus, the bethsoft forums, or even the official GECK wiki. (Remember: Search is your friend. And, if you're not getting any relevant results to your searches, try different possible terms.) Changing the FormID is simply a matter of changing the text in the cell labled 'ID' near the top of the Weapon edit window. (It will ask if you really want to create a new formID, and you click [Yes].)
satan22
Hmm, I was looking around in other edit windows, and for some reason, every other window except for the weapon edit window actually has an "OK" button. Is this normal? I'll continue to look at other tutorials, certainly, but it seems that this may be the real problem.
rabidwargamer
http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w149/Rabidwargamer/GECK.jpg The page in the foreground is the weapon screen where you make edits. As you can see there is most definitely an OK button so that's not the problem. I can't tell you exactly what you are doing wrong because I don't know what you are trying to do, but it sounds like you might be not opening your mod after you close and reopen GECK. If that's the case, you need to click Open, then click on your mod, then set it as the Active File, then hit OK. Not sure if that'll help, but it's a start. SangRahl
Heh... I think I got it.I think you were looking at the [Preview] window, available via right-click. (I use this constantly for when I'm retexturing something.)
satan22
Ok, problem solved. The issue here was my computer kept pushing the 'Ok' button off the bottom edge of my screen, but if I move the window as far up as I can, I'm (barely) able to click on it. I feel pretty dumb now. :P Thank you so much for your time!
BlackWolf18C
Heh, the same thing always happens to me, OK button is buried behind the taskbar. You can always drag the taskbar to the left or right of your screen while working in G.E.C.K. to free up some room on the bottom, that's my quick fix for it. jaysus
or just right click the geck in your taskbar and hit "maximise"
roguehallow
My GECK does that as well. I'm not sure if it's a screen resoluton problem or what. I've found that with most edit windows you can hit Enter and it closes the window and saves the changes as if you'd hit OK.
