Proper Stick Fighting.

This has been a matter of annoyance for a while. I want ot make a character that uses Martial Arts and Stick fighting techniques. My main problems in this endeavor are Animations and a lack of weapons. Any stick weapons for example have the same problem as other two handed melee weapons in that they are held more like a greatsword or club rather then a proper staff. The Unarmed combat also holds the problem of looking more like a brawl then anything. There is also a severe lack of stick weapons. Staves, batons quarterstaffs, Bo staffs, and swordsticks (I can understand the latter as I can imagine it would be a nightmare to script) The only weapon that comes to mind in fact is Old Glory from Lonesome Road (and the Pool Cue but really what use is that?) Would anybody be willing to point me to ny existing mods or projects to rectify these problems?

This brings to mind the old adage, "Don't bring a stick to a gunfight."

 

I think there is a 'lack' of these types of weapons because in the Fallout lore specifically they really didn't want anything to do with any other country but the US. So anyone adopting or using things from other countries, especially the Eastern countries, might have been considered a traitor (also animations take time and guns were more important). Plus the martial arts things take years and years of practice to master, whereas any bozo can pick up a gun and pull the trigger and kill people. As far as the animations go, hand any Average Joe a pool cue or other long melee type object and he will probably hold it like a great sword, because that's just the way people do things.

I'm not denying the likely lore behind it but my chracter specifically calls for martial arts and stick fighting techniques (Along with being in the Mojave Wasteland) and I was really wondering if there were any mods to address these needs for roleplaying purposes.

Unfortunately, there's technical limitations to what you want to do:

 

- Making animations is very hard. From what I can tell, it'll take years of working with 3D animations to get right. There's only a handful of people that modded FNV (like less than five IIRC) that could do custom animations and most of them have left the community.

- Due to limitations (not sure if artificial or normal) of the FNV game engine, there can only be a certain amount of weapon animations in the game itself. So this would require you to replace existing animations and that may break some weapons in the game. Weapons animation mods can get away with replacing existing animations relatively easily since there's more animation slots that specifically affect firearms (Attack Anim and Hand Grip in GECK) than melee which changes how they look. There's really only one animation setting that affects Melee weapons, Animation Type in GECK, and that category has a hard limit of animations AFAIK.

 

So basically, you're stuck with the stock FNV melee animations.

 

As for the weapons, I don't know of any "stick weapons" mods. With that said, you may want to take a look at the melee weapon mods done by user Morealin:

He's made some of his melee weapons relatively easy to cut up with Nifskope. So you might be able to get a staff or quarter staff by cutting off the bladed ends of Morealin's melee weapons.
