Lukkas
Okay, so by the title of this topic I'm sure you already know what I'm going to ask, and I couldn't think of a better place to do it then here, so, I have a question regarding Legality issues. Is it legal to rip meshes, sounds, textures, etc, from other games and convert them for use in FO3, If I do not distribute the esp's and use the mod for PERSONAL use? I know it may seem like a lame thing to do, but I really like the noise the AK47 makes when it fires/reloads in Call of Duty 4. Does anyone know? Cheers, Lukas. sumoftwosins
It is still considered to be illegal. It is the same thing with patents. Just because something is for personal use, you still can't manufacturer or create something from assets controlled by another person or entity. However. No company would go after you on it. It would cost to much to go after a single person that is performing an activity that isn't causing them to lose money.
JahDexter
Well if you don't distribute it, why bother? How could anyone know that you're using it? Or you call the developer and say "hi, i'm using sound from your CoD4" or what? I really don't understand your question. Yes, it's illegal. But nobody cares. Skree000
mods that contain data from other games even heavily modified are prohibited on this site so if you wanted to distribute it youd have to host it somewhere else, which is fine there are thousands of online file hosting sites :) (how im going to be releasing mine)
Callighan
Quick question, is allowed to only upload the description and mirror link to your risky mod on FO3Nexus?Or if not, make a link in your sig. Although I'm inclined to think that either way, The Nexus can be held liable if the infringed would sue.
Emmine
99% sure you'd get banned, try it and see? hehe
Baelkin
Legal? Technically no. But what goes on on your computer is no-one else's business and there's really no way of anyone findng out that you are doing it, unless you advertise that you do it. Even then it won't have any consequences, because game companies don't really give a rat's ass as long as you don't distribute their files illegally to other people or make them publicly available. Heck, if you made a mod using models from other games and gave them to your friends, no-one would care either as long as it's not publicly available to everyone.
