hi, i've never modded oblivion before so i have no idea what to do when something goes wrong...

i'm trying to get the bravil sea dome and the lost paladins of the divines mod to work. i've put all the files i was supposed to in my oblivion/data thing but when i go into the data files on the oblivion launcher, it only has normal oblivion and shivering isles to click on, nothing else

im on windows vista, i installed shivering isles before the 1.2.0416 patch but then i installed the patch.

i also used codes to get cash for a house in bruma and the shack thing in the imperial water front(will this effect the mods at all?)

here are the links to the mods(i followed the instructions but it still won't come up in data files)

Check your oblivion\data folder for any files with a .esp file extension. Those are the files that oblivion allows you to add in data files. If they are there, then you are having some odd problems, that I have never encountered (like a dual oblivion installation, or something similar).

From what you have described, I suspect that they are not present.

Giving yourself cash at the console (using the ~ key) should not impact on any mods, although it may ruin the challenge and some of the immersion, but then for me, bandits in glass and daedric armor ruins immersion.

Rough overview, assuming you accepted default install path:

DriveLetter:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data - *.esp, *.bsa, *.esm Files go here

DriveLetter:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data\Meshes - Game models (meshes) go here (*.nif files) in a multitude of subfolders

DriveLetter:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data\Textures - Model textures (skins), menus, UI, etc go here (*.dds files).

i just checked and everything is where you said it's supposed to be, i've only got esp files, textures, meshes, etc. etc. but i don't have the bsa or esm files though, is that a problem?

p.s. im also using winRAR, do i need the other thing because i dont know how to use it

It tells me you are looking in the wrong place. There should be at least these files in your oblivion data folder:

2006/01/29 03:53 PM 691,562,829 Oblivion - Meshes.bsa

2006/02/08 02:22 PM 7,229,551 Oblivion - Misc.bsa

2006/01/30 03:36 PM 330,432,865 Oblivion - Sounds.bsa

2006/04/24 04:17 PM 1,217,817,848 Oblivion - Textures - Compressed.bsa

2006/01/24 09:22 PM 787,373,673 Oblivion - Voices1.bsa

2006/01/24 10:25 PM 1,005,007,382 Oblivion - Voices2.bsa

2006/12/08 12:47 PM 277,504,985 Oblivion.esm

If you don't see those, then what you are looking at is not your oblivion data folder.

First, If you are using vista:

Quoted from the Oblivion Mods FAQ WIKI

Vista UAC Problems

Please note that Microsoft's new operating system (Vista), makes some security related changes that affect the use of the TES Construction Set. Specifically, any file that is located under the "C:\Program Files" directory is protected from being changed. If you have installed your Elder Scrolls game into the default directory, it will be affected by these security changes. The following is a list of how this affects the construction set and .ESP files:

[snip - parts relating only to Construction set]

[edit] Solutions to the Vista Problems

Alternate Install Directory

If you install your Elder Scrolls game into any directory OTHER than the default, none of these problems occur. Thus, you can bypass the Vista security issues by installing the game onto another hard drive or into a new directory that is not located withing the "Program Files" root directory (such as "C:\Games").

Run as Admin

Another way to fix it is to right-click the ".exe" file and click properties, then check "Run as administrator". Then click OK. Do this for both the "oblivion.exe" and "TESConstructionSet.exe", and any programs you are using that copies files to protected directories (such as WinRAR, 7z, or WinZip).

Disable UAC

Windows Vista users who are fairly confident in the security of their computers might also consider disabling UAC altogether. This will allow all programs writing privileges to the Program Files directory. Although this obviously creates a state of decreased security for your PC, it is a very helpful one-size-fits-all solution to a number of compatibility issues with the Vista OS.

Of these, solution #1 is STRONGLY PREFERRED. Solutions 2 and 3 (running as admin and disabling UAC) remove important safety features of the OS. In contrast, installing Oblivion elsewhere resolves the problems with Oblivion without reducing your overall security.

Wiki entry on installing Oblivion in Vista: http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/Windows_Vista

If you can't, or just don't want to reinstall Oblivion, try this.

Vista users may have to disable a security function known as UAC. If you have downloaded and installed, and the mod is appearing in your Data Files List, but not in your game check to see if UAC is turned on. If so. Look here for instructions on how to turn it off. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vis...-windows-vista/

Note that unless you opt to reinstall the game in a different location (option 1) when you start trying to make your own mods using the construction set, you will run into these problems again.

Second: If you have never used mods before.

I have a set of help files for people new to mods. They include downloading, extracting (unzipping) installing and activating mods. I have included a sample mod to practice on and instructions for installing and using 7-zip. If you are interested, click on the highlighted link below to be taken to the site where they are kept. I recommend starting with #1 and working your way through them.

uhhh, thanks for the info, i got the mods to work but..... when i go to my sea dome(i bought everything), theres no floors, only big exclamation marks everywhere where

then you have got only the esp in the right place, while the other files are not: in oblivion the "big exlamation marker" indicates that the game has not found a mesh (that is a 3D model). Probably you should reinstall your mod, but before i suggest you to read some of the wonderfun articles here on the nexus that explain how mods work and how to install them.

good luck!
