Mod Installation

Before you do ANYTHING to modify the game, I recommend that you do a TOTAL backup. This includes all game files and saves.

 

Because of the structure of the mods and the lack of a modern/up-to-date Mod Manager for Fate, every mod will have to be installed manually. Depending on the mod's structure, the installation might also differ from mod to mod. This should be your one stop guide for the installation basics!

 

*WARNING! BE VERY CAREFUL EDITING THE ITEMS.DAT FILE! OVERRIDING WILL CAUSE GAME TO BE UNPLAYABLE!*
*BACKUP OF ITEMS.DAT RECOMMENDED BEFORE PROCEEDING!*

 

Method 1 (Probably not you):
Use Fate Mod Manager and install the easy way! :D
Method 2 (Steam, GOG, Others):
-Open Fate directory
-Create new folder called MODS
-Copy main folder of mod into the new MODS folder (eg. FATE/MODS/ModName/ITEMS)
-Go into ITEMS and open items.dat with any text editor (notepad, wordpad)
-Copy ALL of that text
-Open the main directory for Fate and go into the ITEMS folder
-Open items.dat and scroll all the way to the bottom
-Paste the new items at the end and MAKE SURE TO SAVE

 

This should install any item based mod if it's structured correctly.

An easy way to see if the mod will work with this method is to look at the text inside of the mods item.dat file.

The ICON path matches where I put the file for the mod so therefore it's going to work.

Sometimes the path will say REALMS instead of MODS in the path, all you have to do is change all the REALMS to MODS and it should work!

Note: The REALMS paths are for Fate:UR and will work as well.

 

This forum post will be added to in the future to help install more complicated mods but this will get you it working!
