Fallout 3 LOD/View Distance Probelm

If that were my in-game, I wouldn't be able to see and building in the background, megaton, some trees, funky LOD textures up close for the terrain, maybe not even that water tower and some boulders. If you could upload those files to see if it'll fix this it would be greatly appreciated.

BTW Thank you Purr4me for sticking with me on this problem ;]

Ok be few minutes, just got home from shopping, I have to be a mom first, then I'll come back and deal with this.

http://rapidshare.com/files/3757427491/Game%20Ini%20files.7z

these are in a Developers shared box on Rapid share Data Logistics storage medium. you need to have an account to access the files, be logged in. This way I know your getting my stuff and it's not getting highjacked.

These files I saved for an extreme Sharp imaging of fallout3 's game. It only an attempt to see if your system tries to modify them. any software that does, Windows should complain or a message will pop up.

  1. Takes notes.
  2. post what takes place in stages.
  3. I'll edit this post with the others as soon as I get them in place.
  4. system specs.
  5. A screen shot before and after applications are done.
  6. IF you have windows 8? I need a screen shot of the tiles window menu, this shows the level loaded.
  7. If that is blurred out, so will the game be. The fonts
  8. the monitor type if it is a monitor , if it's a TV set? I need to know the model Number.

I believe there was a slight improvement, but it isn't 100% :\

can you provide me with an example screen, upload it to image share, it's the cleanest one on the planet so far. at least you can control the public part, set yours to private so Google does not pick it up. keep all your online stuff private, share only what you deem necessary for help or choices. BUT, I need to view what it is your talking about so I can help understand the situation, it's like painting a master piece in the dark here without that. I haven't got a clue, only say so. to use an unwanted set of words " talk is cheap, but a picture speaks a thousand words."

These are in-game screenshots of Fallout New Vegas, but it's a mutually shared problem with both games

Basically, I can only build you a set of files for the data directory to match what your after. based on those shots, this is a normal game settings, that's how it is. Cell transitions take place, it's not all loaded at once, no machine can do that ,but I can come very close, however, you will sacrifice some system performance .....that is if you want me to make these files for you?

OR you may attempt this your self?

#1. in the root of the game folder you will find ini files, you want to open the highest one first, select all and copy that. close the file.

A> . this is your new default rendering work around data, Believe me, when I tell you things do change when the game loads, they do NOT stay the same, this will force it to remain the same no matter what.

#2. right click and edit the attributes of the remaining (ini) files, turn off "read only"/ " uncheck it so no check mark in there and you are free to edit these files.

#3. open each remaining file and select all, make sure you delete the data in them, right click that blank new / old file space and select paste, the data held in ram / clipboard from the very high (ini) file will now be resident in the remaining files when your all done.

"(reset the attributes to read only now)". why we do this is so when the launcher or steam comes along and tries to re-write these, or some other program gets in there and messes with these files, they can not touch your set up. To a point.

Now, with that set up, and you load up the Geck, you can set the distance to a permanent view, force it to render the LOD maximum. you need to do this in preferences before and after you save the new esp your making, all this esp is are distance settings, if you do this right? you will never forget the power of programing and over riding default settings from with in a plugin file. This power over rides the engine and steams overlay properties. But, mods that alter things like weather mods, and other factors will fight you. it's all up to you to keep track of things from this point on. I can make the game appear as real as it can be. Your shots are default 800 x 600 renderings, and I don't care what the screen rez you have is set at, that's whats in these shots i just downloaded and scanned.

so, you let me know if you want me to make these files for you, but the esp you must make on your machine so the code matches your cards abilities.

  • 7 years later...

It's almost here.

You just need to combine this:

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/21174

And the ini-tweaking with parameters uGridsToLoad set to 7 or 9 (9 is much risky to get crashes) and oher .ini stuff for cells.

Also lod settings in the ini-files need to be tweaked too to make transitions between lod much fluently.

I'm working from time to time to get optimal setttings for visuals and distance. I'll paste it here someday.
